Rare Glenfiddich Scotch Breaks Canadian Record

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 19, 2012) -

One of the world's 11 bottles of Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve 55 Year Old Scotch sold at auction Friday night for $52,000 setting a new record for Canada.

Scotch aficionados, Dave and Laurie (last name undisclosed) of Etobicoke, Ontario were thrilled to be the winning bidders supporting a cause dear their hearts. Close family members who served in World War II inspired the couple's desire to support Canada's armed forces.

All proceeds from this luxurious whisky will benefit WoundedWarriors.ca, a not-for-profit organization that assists and improves the quality of life of wounded Canadian soldiers and their families.

"I'm truly overwhelmed with the level of support we've received from the William Grant & Sons family distillery through this auction and beyond," says Captain Wayne Johnston, Founder of WoundedWarriors.ca. "Every penny from this bottle's auction will go towards wounded Canadian soldiers and their families and I'm thrilled that the Grant's family has chosen to help."

Considered one of the most prestigious whiskies ever released by the Glenfiddich distillery, the Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve was produced to recognize the long life and contributions Janet Sheed Roberts made to her family's distillery. Janet Sheed Roberts (1901 - 2012), granddaughter of distillery founder William Grant, was part of a pioneering legacy that began 125 years ago. Roberts' great-niece, Sally Gordon Woof travelled to Canada to witness the seventh bottle sell at auction

.

"Wee Janie (Janet Sheed Roberts) and this honorary Scotch are dear to me and my family, it's a privilege to see her continued contributions here in Canada" says Ms. Gordon Woof. "William Grant & Sons has many Canadian connections; with the auction of the Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve we now have another."

In conjunction with Waddington's and the LCBO, Canada's lone bottle of Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve was first item up for bid in the VINTAGES auction at Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto. The Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve has earned international acclaim as one of the rarest and most expensive single malt Scotches in the world; a new benchmark for Glenfiddich, the world's most awarded single malt Scotch. Each of the 11 bottles sold at auction globally will benefit charity. To date, the Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve has raised a total of $393,839.25 CAD.
