NEW YORK, Nov. 21, 2022 - Last Thursday, Guy Beahm, the man behind gaming legend Dr DisRespect, announced the launch of Black Steel Bourbon, a premium Kentucky bourbon, created to bring together outstanding craft with a refreshingly untraditional spirit. DUBLIN, Nov. 17, 2022 -- Redbreast Irish Whiskey is celebrating the second year of Robin Redbreast Day, an annual global date in the calendar designed to raise awareness and donations for charity partner BirdLife International, and its joint mission to protect common birds.

 

Back once again to help our feathered friends is A-list actor and Redbreast fan Chris O'Dowd who has teamed up with Redbreast and their iconic mascot, Robin, to star in another witty birdwatching video to entertain and inspire viewers. For every share and like the video receives, 25 cent (€)* will be donated to the global conservation charity BirdLife International who use the funds for their vital work in species and habitat protection, advocacy and conservation.

Redbreast Irish Whiskey has a longstanding commitment to bird conservation, and over the years the whiskey has focused on ways to give back to well-known yet vulnerable species who have come under increasing pressure. BirdLife's recent State of the World Birds 2022 report, revealed that nearly half of all bird species are in trouble and one in eight are sadly heading towards extinction. This year, Robin and Chris are on a mission to get people involved in the whiskey's ongoing ambition to keep the common birds common. The first offering is Hemingway Rye Whiskey First Edition, a captivating blend of 96% 9-year-old Indiana Straight Rye and 4% 4-year-old Kentucky Straight Rye, the latter distilled by Jacob Call and crafted with his signature spice. Both are finished with the sweetness and softness of Ron Call's own rum-seasoned Oloroso Sherry casks. It is 100 proof and a dark amber color. It has a rich caramel and brown sugar aroma, complemented by back notes of soft rye and vanilla. On the palate, it has notes of rich cherry, toasted oak, creamy caramel, and cinnamon. A rich mouthfeel bursts with fruit flavor leading into a soft, sweet, and warm finish.

The First Edition release of Hemingway Rye debuts today in Collector's Packaging. With only 972 bottles, it is ready to be welcomed by the most discerning whiskey drinkers and worthy destinations. The bottles are hand-numbered and hand-signed by the Calls; each will come encased in a beautifully textured library-style box, which includes a gold foiled Hemingway signature, "First Edition" inscription, and a satin pull ribbon. As barrels rolled in from Kentucky one muggy, misty March morning, Bayou Rum Master Blender Reiniel Vicente Diaz thought to himself, "there's a lot of good times rolling around in these barrels." The thought was reminiscent of the Mardi Gras mantra, "laissez les bons temps rouler" — let the good times roll — and in that moment the flash of inspiration came to pour this beautiful rich rye liquor into 38 very special, freshly emptied, Bayou Rum XO Mardi Gras ultra-premium rum casks.

Diaz knew the humidity of the unique Louisiana climate worked wonders on his own Bayou rum and was curious how it would shape the rich Kentucky rye. He knew filling the barrels in March would give the whiskey a good long, hot, humid summer to extract lots of lovely flavor, and he was patient enough to wait a further year and another sizzling summer before allowing the rest of the world enjoy this unique expression.

On the nose, Kentucky Owl® Mardi Gras XO Cask Limited Edition greets drinkers with robust toasted rye bread notes, smothered in farm fresh sweet butter, with hints of cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. The mouthfeel begins with a robust, flavorful Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, followed by a flurry of sweet butter whipped with allspice. Aged for 14 years in wood rickhouses, THE LEFT CROSS was finished in freshly dumped 12-year-old Jamaican rum casks for two to six months – an extremely rare finish for a bourbon at this maturity. The result is a balanced and nuanced spirit where the natural bourbon characteristics and the rum finishing co-exist beautifully.

Produced under the careful stewardship of Master Distiller Kevin Curtis and Master Blender Stephen Hughes of IJW Whiskey Company, just 70 barrels of Puncher’s Chance Bourbon: THE LEFT CROSS are available – making this a must have for collectors and connoisseurs. Bottled at 96 proof, The LEFT CROSS starts with a mash bill of 84 percent corn, eight percent malt and eight percent rye.

Aged in new American oak barrels, the whiskey picks up the flavors of a long-matured bourbon, including vanilla, dark fruit, and warm oak. Follow Up to Award-Winning Golden Rye is First Blue Run Rye Bottled at Barrel Proof

GEORGETOWN, KY. NOVEMBER 14, 2022 Blue Run Spirits announces the second release in its Rye Whiskey series – Blue Run Emerald Rye Whiskey. This marks the first Blue Run Rye Whiskey to be contract distilled by Blue Run Liquid Advisor Jim Rutledge at Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky and the first Blue Run Rye to be bottled at barrel proof. Blue Run Emerald Rye is now available at select retailers in the United States and online at BlueRunSpirits.com beginning at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Tuesday, November 15.

Blue Run Emerald Rye serves as the follow up to Blue Run Golden Rye Whiskey, a Gold Medal winner at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Emerald, a limited collection, was crafted from just 189 barrels and embraces the distinct, spicy characteristics of Rye Whiskey, yet with the approachability and depth of a fine Bourbon. Blue Run Whiskey Director Shaylyn Gammon expertly blended Emerald to highlight a myriad of Blue Run’s favorite flavor characteristics.

“This was an incredibly fun project to work on as I asked the Blue Run team what aspects of Rye Whiskey they truly loved,” said Gammon. “I then went about focusing my blend on those key attributes, zeroing in on fragrant herbs, fresh peppers, and robust spice. Those three prominent notes provide the foundation for a complex, deep flavor experience all the way through to the finish.”

Adding to the complexity, several Emerald barrels were aged at different locations more than fifty miles apart in Bardstown and Frankfort. The difference in aging environments helped contribute to the blend’s approachability at this high of proof. In addition, Shaylyn crafted Emerald with whiskies born from three different mash bills with varying degrees of the core grain of rye, creating a rich liquid palette for her to work with when applying her award-winning blending skills.

On the nose, Emerald Rye has dreamy butterscotch and creamy caramel leading to toasted oak and spicy peppers. The palate is awakened with a quick hit of buttercream and shishito peppers followed by a blast of apples and pears evolving into a woody sprinkling of cloves and rye spice. The finish will leave you with lasting memories of leather, oak, and brown butter.

Blue Run’s signature butterfly medallion on the bottle glimmers with anodized emerald green, making it easily identified by whiskey enthusiasts and collectors alike. Designed by renowned Nike sneaker designer and Blue Run cofounder Devon McKinney, Emerald is the second butterfly medallion in Blue Run’s Rye Whiskey series inspired by precious objects.
