Michter’s Barrel Strength Toasted Barrel Finish Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey

Michter’s Barrel Strength Toasted Barrel Finish Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey
, 55%-ABV, 750ml bottles.
About Michter’s Whiskey:

Michter's is a premium Kentucky-based distillery with roots dating back to 1753 in Pennsylvania, known for producing high-quality, small-batch, and single-barrel whiskies. Famous for a low 103-proof barrel entry, natural air-dried wood, and heat-cycled aging, they produce acclaimed bourbons and ryes, including the flagship US★1 line.

Details About Michter’s Whiskey:

  • History & Heritage: Founded as Shenk’s in 1753 and later named Bomberger’s, it was rebranded as Michter's in the 20th century. After closing in 1990, the brand was resurrected by Chatham Imports and moved production to Kentucky.
  • Production Philosophy: Focused on "cost be damned" quality, Michter’s uses a low barrel entry proof (103 proof) to ensure a richer, softer, and more complex spirit. They use heat-cycled warehouses to enhance maturation.
  • Key Products:
    • Michter's US★1 Small Batch Bourbon: A flagship, rich bourbon with notes of butterscotch, caramel, and vanilla.
    • Michter's US★1 Single Barrel Rye: A highly regarded, spice-forward rye.
    • Michter's US★1 Unblended American Whiskey: Known for its smooth, toffee-forward profile using bourbon-soaked barrels.
    • Limited Releases: Includes the 10-Year Single Barrel Bourbon/Rye, 20-Year Bourbon, 25-Year Bourbon, and the ultra-premium Celebration Sour Mash.
  • Production Facilities: Michter's operates three locations in Kentucky: the main Shively distillery, a farm in Springfield, and the Fort Nelson Distillery in downtown Louisville.
  • Unique Features: They were the first to release a "Toasted Barrel" bourbon, where the barrel is toasted but not charred.

Michter's whiskeys are widely considered a benchmark for American whiskey, often described as having a smooth, sweet, and complex profile.

Michter's Continues Its Toasted Barrel Finish Series With Launch of 2025 Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash

Michter's Continues Its Toasted Barrel Finish Series With Launch of 2025 Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky., Aug. 19, 2025  This September, Michter's will release its US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash Whiskey. This whiskey is part of Michter's series of whiskeys finished in toasted uncharred barrels.

"In 2014 our Michter's team didn't realize that we were putting the Toasted Uncharred Barrel Finish category on the map when we released our bourbon finished in a second barrel that was toasted but not charred and named it Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon," stated Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. "This 2025 release of Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash Whiskey is really special."

The 2025 release of Michter's Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash Whiskey follows on the heels of releases of Michter's Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon and Michter's Toasted Barrel Finish Rye. "At Michter's, we value American whiskey making traditions, but we are always experimenting and looking for innovative ways to make great whiskeys. We're proud that we were able to show how good fully matured whiskey finished in a second barrel that was toasted but not charred can be. The second toasted only barrel really complements the flavors of the Sour Mash and deepens the rich honey, burnt sugar, and citrus spice notes with smoky vanilla reminiscent of a cozy campfire," observed Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson.

Like the highly acclaimed Michter's US*1 Sour Mash, which in 2019 earned the honor of being the first American whiskey named Whisky of the Year by UK-based The Whisky Exchange, Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Sour Mash is 86 proof (43% ABV). Its U.S. suggested retail price is $110 per 750ml bottle.

Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee commented, "Our Sour Mash Whiskey is an interesting whiskey that has the attributes of a really good bourbon yet finishes a bit like a rye. It's a whiskey that is a terrific candidate for finishing in the second barrel that is toasted but not charred."

In October 2024, Michter's became the first whiskey to be named in two consecutive years The World's Most Admired Whiskey by a vote of an international academy of voters announced by UK-based Drinks International. Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter's highly acclaimed portfolio includes bourbon, rye, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey. The World's Most Admired Whiskey Announces 2025 Release of Michter's 10 Year Rye

The World's Most Admired Whiskey Announces 2025 Release of Michter's 10 Year Rye

LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 20, 2025 Louisville based distiller Michter's will be releasing its highly acclaimed 10 Year Kentucky Straight Rye this June.

"Rye whiskey has deep roots in American whiskey history," commented Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. "It fell out of favor for most of the 20th century when much of it was used as a blender in other whiskeys. The work of the bartenders in the on-premise community to show how great a good American rye is in cocktails was instrumental in bringing this exceptional whiskey category back."

Michter's releases whiskey according to the flavor profile of specific barrels rather than automatically upon their reaching a certain age. As a result of this protocol, Michter's whiskeys have often been matured longer than the age statement on the label. The barrels that comprise this release were deemed ready by Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee and Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson.

Wilson observed that Michter's ryes are Kentucky style as opposed to many ryes from other U.S. states, "One of Michter's defining characteristics for our rye whiskey is the balance of the beautiful baking spice with fresh citrus and floral underpinned by notes of vanilla, caramel, chocolate and sweet oak. This Kentucky style rye differs from the styles from Indiana and other parts of the U.S., and it reveals a refined elegance and harmony of flavors."

A 92.8 proof (46.4% alcohol by volume) spirit, Michter's 10 Year Rye is a single barrel whiskey, and it has a suggested retail price of $210 in the U.S. McKee stated, "As someone who enjoys rye, I was excited to taste the barrels for this year's release. The flavor profile is exceptional."

In October 2024, Michter's became the first whiskey to be named in two consecutive years The World's Most Admired Whiskey by a vote of an international academy of voters announced by UK based Drinks International. Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. Michter's To Release 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon

Michter's To Release 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 25, 2025 - Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee and Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson have approved a release of Michter's 10 Year Bourbon that will begin reaching stores, bars, and restaurants this April.

"Rather than on a strict age schedule, at Michter's we bottle whiskey when our production team deems it fully matured. This continues the standards set by Michter's first Kentucky Master Distiller Willie Pratt," said Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. The 2025 release will have a suggested retail price of $195 for a 750ml bottle in the U.S.

Wilson and McKee regularly taste older barrels as they assess the maturation of their stocks. Wilson commented, "It is such an exciting time when we are reviewing barrels for consideration for this release. This year's 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon is again overaged beyond 10 years. It opens with a very inviting nose and draws you in like a good movie with its character development and complexity with the joy of a great story it has to share and leaving you satisfied through to the finish."

Michter's 10 Year Bourbon is 94.4 Proof (47.2% Alc./Vol.). "It has remarkable body and character," observed McKee. "The richness and complexity of this whiskey continues to provide such a robust experience that is amazingly flavorful for a bourbon that isn't north of 100 proof."

In late October 2024, the UK-based publication Drinks International announced the results of a poll of an Academy of independent global whisky experts, journalists, bartenders, and drinks buyers from more than 20 countries. This marked the first time ever that a whiskey (Michter's) was voted the World's Most Admired Whiskey in two consecutive years.

Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter's highly acclaimed portfolio includes bourbon, rye, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey.

Michter's Announces 2025 Release of Its US*1 Barrel Strength Rye

Michter's Announces 2025 Release of Its US*1 Barrel Strength Rye

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb. 25, 2025 -- Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee and Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson have approved the release of Michter's US*1 Barrel Strength Rye. Shipments to bars, restaurants, and stores will begin this March.

"When we began selling our rye many years ago, American rye whiskey was virtually an afterthought for a lot of people. Our team takes pride in our ryes, and it's great to see how this category of wonderful whiskey has returned to the forefront," observed Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco.

With a mashbill that, while being majority rye grain, has a good deal of corn and malted barley as well, Michter's Ryes are Kentucky style. "We often have people at a tasting that say they are not rye drinkers, but when they taste Michter's they are surprised by how much they enjoy it," said McKee. "This Kentucky style rye at barrel strength is another fantastic way to enjoy the traditional characteristics of a rye whiskey while offering a nice balance of sweetness and spice."

Michter's US*1 Barrel Strength Rye is a single barrel product, and the average proof of the barrels in this 2025 release is 110.5 proof (55.25% ABV). The suggested retail price for a 750ml bottle in the U.S. is $120.

Speaking of US*1 Barrel Strength Rye, Wilson commented, "It is an absolute honor to share such a wonderful representation of what American rye can be with its baking spice, dark fruit, toffee, and fragrant citrus and floral notes all within a round, smooth, complex finish to be contemplated and savored. I could not be prouder of our team and the efforts to create such a refined American rye that tips our hat to the history of rye whiskey in this country."

In October 2024, Michter's became the first whiskey to be named in two consecutive years The World's Most Admired Whiskey by a vote of an international academy of voters announced by UK based Drinks International. Michter's Adds to Its Legacy Series With First Release of Bomberger's PFG™: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished in Precision Fine Grain Oak Barrels

Michter's Adds to Its Legacy Series With First Release of Bomberger's PFG™: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished in Precision Fine Grain Oak Barrels

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 28, 2025- The year 2025 marks the first release of Bomberger's PFG™ (Precision Fine Grain) Kentucky Straight Bourbon. "Over the years, our flagship Bomberger's Declaration Bourbon has always had a rich, bold nature that I love. This new Bomberger's PFG™ release continues our efforts to further experiment with Bomberger's and push the boundaries of American whiskey. It's a wonderful expression with great texture and a remarkable spectrum of rich, full flavors resulting from our team's thoughtful exploration of wood science under very specific conditions," commented Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee.

Bomberger's PFG™ is made by first aging Kentucky Straight Bourbon in a new toasted and charred American oak barrel. After full maturation, the Kentucky Straight Bourbon is removed from the first barrel and placed in a second new, custom, proprietary toasted and charred French fine grain oak barrel of the most exacting specifications. These barrels are toasted at a tightly defined temperature range for a precise period of time before they receive a select charring. The whiskey is matured in these second barrels before being dumped into small batches that undergo our signature filtration prior to bottling at 100.2 proof (50.1% ABV).

The Bomberger's PFG™ finishing barrel is a blend of wood from various origins, including the revered Tronçais, Allier, Nevers, and Vosges forests. It is constructed from wood that has been naturally air dried outdoors for a minimum of 40 months in France near the Charente River, which has a unique seasoning environment influenced by humidity, microflora creation, climate, wind direction, and elevation. After this seasoning, the staves are hand selected to construct the Bomberger's PFG™ finishing barrels.

The focus is to be precise at every step of the Bomberger's PFG™ production process. Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson remarked, "The result is a medley of engaging aromas from confectionary to floral, a palate of beautifully integrated fruits and herbaceous notes with a full body and a luxurious, creamy texture that lingers with soft spice and chocolate."

The suggested retail price in the U.S. for a 750ml bottle of Bomberger's PFG™ is $140.

With its Shenk's and Bomberger's Legacy release whiskeys, Kentucky Michter's honors the heritage of the Pennsylvania distillery founded as Shenk's in 1753 and renamed Bomberger's in the 1800's before becoming known as Michter's in the 20th century.

Michter's First Release of Its 20 Year Bourbon in Two Years

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 19, 2024 - For the first time since 2022, Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson have approved the release of Michter's 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

"It's always a special event for us at Michter's when we bottle and release some whiskey that is over two decades old," commented Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. "Unlike Scotch and some other aged spirits, bourbon has to mature in a new barrel. Reaching ages beyond 15 years without the whiskey getting too woody is an achievement that our team strives for. This is an exceptional release, and we only wish we had more to offer."

Last month Drinks International published the 2024 list of the World's Most Admired Whiskies. The voting is done by an Academy of independent global drinks buyers, journalists, bartenders, and whiskey experts from more than 20 countries, and the list includes legendary distillers from Scotland, Japan, Ireland, and beyond. For the second consecutive year, Michter's has placed first on the top-50 list. Master Distiller Dan McKee said, "We are so humbled and so grateful to be named The World's Most Admired Whiskey. I can't think of a better way to celebrate than with this 2024 release of Michter's 20 Year Bourbon. It's an amazing whiskey."

Michter's team members carefully monitor the barrels throughout their rickhouses, and pay extra attention to the older barrels. According to Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson, "The Michter's 20 Year is a remarkable drinking experience. It's luxurious and expansive — a broad palate of flavor that culminates in a viscous, dark, and richly-complex finish. Taking over two decades in the making, this bourbon doesn't just taste good - it evokes a piece of that timeless history, of life's warm and glowing moments. It's truly a once in a lifetime bourbon!"

The proof of this 2024 release is 114.2 (57.1% ABV), and the suggested U.S. retail price for a 750ml bottle is $1,200.

Beyond its main distillery in the Shively section of Louisville, Michter's operations extend to two other sites in Kentucky. In Springfield, Michter's is farming estate grown grain on its 205-acre property, while in downtown Louisville, Michter's has its second distillery in the historic Fort Nelson Building. Situated in a prime location on West Main Street opposite Louisville Slugger and on the same block as the Frazier Museum, Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery features the legendary pot still system from Michter's Pennsylvania. It also has educational tours with whiskey tastings and The Bar at Fort Nelson, which features classic cocktails curated by spirits and cocktail historian David Wondrich.

Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter's highly acclaimed portfolio includes bourbon, rye, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey.

We are so grateful to the Academy and to everyone who has made all this possible."

On The Tenth Anniversary of Its Debut, Michter's is Releasing Its US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon Once Again

On The Tenth Anniversary of Its Debut, Michter's is Releasing Its US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon Once Again

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 13, 2024 - Louisville-based Michter's will begin shipping its 2024 bottling of its US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon in September. With its first release in 2014, Michter's created the toasted barrel finish category.

"Ten years ago, after a good deal of research and experimentation, we released the first toasted barrel whiskey: Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon," observed Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. "We had no idea it would be such a groundbreaking product."

To make this special Toasted release, Michter's starts with fully matured barrels of its US*1 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon and transfers the whiskey into a second barrel made of 18-month air dried wood for additional aging. The second barrel has been toasted to precise specifications, but not charred.

As Michter's Master of Maturation, Andrea Wilson is responsible for Michter's aging and finishing program. "It's a testament to our team that so many other great distillers have followed us in releasing toasted barrel finish whiskeys. There are many different toast profiles in which the barrel is heated to create beautiful flavor notes. This year's Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon reminds me of a fall evening where we are roasting campfire treats with graham crackers, marshmallows, caramel and butterscotch," said Wilson.

The U.S. suggested retail price for a 750ml bottle of this 91.4 proof whiskey is $110.

Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee commented, "On the tenth anniversary of Michter's creation of the toasted barrel finish category, our team could not be more excited to share this latest release of Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon with our loyal Michter's fans. There was a consensus among our tasting panel members that this 2024 release furthers the legacy of Michter's exceptional toasted whiskeys."

In late October 2023, whiskey history was made when the UK-based publication Drinks International announced the results of a poll of an Academy of independent global whisky experts, journalists, bartenders, and drinks buyers from more than 20 countries. An American whiskey (Michter's) was finally voted the World's Most Admired Whiskey. Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. Michter's Distillery to Release 2024 Legacy Series

LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 25, 2024   --- -- Just in time for America's 248th Birthday, Michter's Distillery will be releasing its Legacy Series this July. Comprised of Shenk's Homestead Kentucky Sour Mash Whiskey and Bomberger's Declaration Kentucky Straight Bourbon, this special release is vintage-dated with the year of the bottling, in this case 2024.

Each release of Shenk's and each release of Bomberger's has differed from those of previous years. "While there is some continuity from year to year, our production team makes creative adjustments to each edition of these whiskeys," observed Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco.

In 1753, Swiss Mennonite farmer John Shenk founded Shenk's distillery in Pennsylvania. This distillery was later renamed Bomberger's Distillery in the 1800s before its name changed again to Michter's Distillery in the mid-20th Century. It is this heritage that the Michter's Legacy Series honors.

Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee said, "In the 2024 Shenk's release, we used rye, malted rye, and for the first time caramel malt, which offers a nice creaminess to complement the whiskey's herbaceous qualities and notes of spice." Some of the barrels used in the production of Shenk's include oak sourced from the Vosges region of France, which is air dried and seasoned for 24 months before being toasted to Michter's exacting specifications.

Like Shenk's, the 2024 release of Bomberger's has some malted rye in its recipe. "This year's release of Shenk's and Bomberger's is a reflection of the passion the team has for making exciting whiskeys with a thoughtful touch of exploration," commented Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson. "The 2024 edition of Bomberger's continues the use of some Chinquapin (Quercus muehlenbergii) oak to accentuate the dark chocolate and stewed fruit notes in this big whiskey that are then complemented by the spice notes offering a bold, rich, balanced complexity and a long lingering warm finish for your drinking indulgence." This year's Chinquapin oak was air dried and seasoned outdoors for 36 months before toasting and charring.

Shenk's is 91.2 proof (45.6% ABV) and has a U.S. suggested retail price of $110. Bomberger's is 108 proof (54% ABV) and has a U.S. suggested retail price of $120.

The World's Most Admired Whiskey Announces 2024 Release Of 10 Year Rye

LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 14, 2024 For the first time since becoming the first American whiskey to be named the World's Most Admired Whiskey, Michter's will be releasing its acclaimed 10 Year Kentucky Straight Rye. The release is a single barrel product bottled from stocks over ten years old that have been selected by Michter's production team.

"For over 20 years at Michter's, we have been hard at work trying to show that American Rye can be a world class spirit. Along with our US*1 Rye, our 10 Year Rye has led the way for us. In fact, the first rye released by Kentucky Michter's was our 10 Year Rye," commented Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco.

Different from many of the rye whiskeys produced in Indiana, Canada, and elsewhere, Michter's 10 Year Rye bears the hallmarks of its home state as a quintessential "Kentucky-style" rye. Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee said, "When I came to Michter's, I developed a greater appreciation for Kentucky-style rye with its additional flavor nuances that come from having more corn and more malted barley in a majority rye mashbill."

The barrels released for this 2024 bottling were approved by Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson. Wilson observed, "What strikes me about the 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Rye is its elegance and complexity without being spice dominant. The spice is beautifully integrated with hints of floral notes, fruit, honey, citrus and chocolate that create a wonderfully balanced experience perfect for a summer evening."

A 92.8 proof (46.4% alcohol by volume) spirit, Michter's 10 Year Rye has a suggested retail price of $200 in the U.S. The Louisville-based distillery plans to allocate this release in limited quantities to its export markets as well.

Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter's highly acclaimed portfolio includes bourbon, rye, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey. In late October 2023, whiskey history was made when the UK-based publication Drinks International announced the results of a poll of an Academy of independent global whisky experts, journalists, bartenders, and drinks buyers from more than 20 countries. On The Heels of Being Voted The World's Most Admired Whiskey, Michter's Releases Its Rare 25 Year Bourbon

On The Heels of Being Voted The World's Most Admired Whiskey, Michter's Releases Its Rare 25 Year Bourbon

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 14, 2023- On October 31, 2023, UK-based Drinks International published its annual top 50 list of The World's Most Admired Whiskies based on voting by an Academy of independent whiskey experts (writers, educators, bar owners, and other specialists with no affiliation to any brand) from more than 20 countries. For the first time an American whiskey, Michter's, topped the charts as The World's Most Admired Whiskey. Michter's is celebrating this extraordinary recognition with the December release of one of its rarest offerings: Michter's 25 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

"This release commemorates a truly special moment for us," commented Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. "The last time we released a 25 Year Bourbon was in 2020."

The 25 Year Michter's Bourbon barrels are personally selected by Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee and Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson. Wilson observed, "This release of the 25 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon is an outstanding flavor experience without the overly oaked, dusty old whiskey character. It is a wonderful journey with its transition through sweet and savory depth, world spices, dark chocolates, fruit characters and nut oils almost as if you are eating through a box of fine chocolates. It is an exceptional whiskey for an exceptional achievement in the whiskey world."

"I am proud to work with a talented team of individuals who strive to create great whiskey," said McKee. "From Michter's US*1 Bourbon to our 25 Year Bourbon, our team takes tremendous pride in the lineup of whiskeys we are offering. This release is a truly special one."

Michter's Named World's Most Admired Whiskey, First American Brand Ever to Receive Industry's Highest Honor

Michter's Named World's Most Admired Whiskey, First American Brand Ever to Receive Industry's Highest Honor

A Watershed Moment for American Whiskey; The Judgment of Paris Part Deux?

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Oct. 31, 2023 - For the first time ever, an American distillery has taken home the highest honor in whisky. Michter's, a Louisville, Kentucky-based bourbon and rye producer, eclipsed the biggest names from Scotland, Japan, Ireland, and beyond to rank first overall in the newly-released 2023 World's Most Admired Whiskies top 50 list published by Drinks International. With this stunning recognition, Michter's joins a winner's circle of iconic brands including Yamazaki and Springbank.

The results, which are determined by an Academy of independent global drinks buyers, journalists, bartenders and whisky experts from more than 20 countries, represent the pinnacle of achievement in the global whisky trade and certify that American whiskey is finally being recognized for its excellence by connoisseurs around the world. In its significance, and perhaps even shock value, this thrilling announcement harkens back to the Judgment of Paris in 1976, when a Napa chardonnay and a Napa cabernet sauvignon prevailed over esteemed counterparts from Burgundy and Bordeaux in a landmark blind tasting that demolished critical expectations and sent the international image of American wine soaring.

"I could not be prouder of what this means not only for Michter's, but for the American whiskey community as a whole," said Andrea Wilson, Michter's Master of Maturation, former Chair of the Kentucky Distillers' Association and Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame member. "It is the ultimate recognition of the attention to detail, discipline, rigor and focus on excellence that has characterized high-end American whiskey production for many years now. At home, we've always had tremendous belief in our approach, but then you would travel abroad and see bourbon placed on the bottom shelf almost automatically in many parts of the world so it is really exciting to see it reach such high regard. This means so much to our team and we couldn't be more humbled to celebrate this moment in American whiskey with our friends throughout the industry," Wilson continued.

For Michter's President and fellow Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame member Joseph J. Magliocco, Michter's being named the World's Most Admired Whiskey caps a remarkable run that began in the 1990s with him and his two brothers acquiring for US$245 the Michter's trademark, which had been abandoned, thereby obtaining the rights to the brand he had once sold as a summer job during the late 1970s. "This is a great day for American whiskey and a great day for Michter's," remarked Magliocco. "We are so grateful to the Academy and to all the people who have done so much over the years to make this possible. I can't put into words how thrilled and how honored all of us at Michter's are. From my first days of learning about the heritage of Michter's in Pennsylvania through the subsequent time our team has spent resurrecting the brand in Kentucky, we have always hoped that people would appreciate the brand's legacy and dedication to quality. But if you told me that one day Michter's would be named the World's Most Admired Whiskey, well, I would've thought you'd had one too many."

According to Shay Waterworth, Editor of Drinks International, "Michter's is officially the trade's favourite whiskey. Not only does the brand have a fascinating back story, it's also making some of the best whiskies in the world right now and clearly our global Academy agrees with me. Every trade show I attend I see a crowd of bartenders, importers and buyers surrounding the Michter's stand, which further justifies its place at the top of our esteemed ranking. It's also great for the trade to have its first American whiskey sit atop The World's Most Admired Whiskies, my congratulations go to the whole Michter's team for this great success."

To Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee, this watershed moment celebrates the passion and dedication of many individuals along the way. He commented, "I would like to thank the Academy for this extraordinary honor on behalf of our entire team, past and present. It reflects the decades of hard work and passing down of knowledge from generation to generation that it took to arrive at this point. From each and every person at Michter's to all of our trade partners and friends, this would not be possible without you. I am tremendously grateful and honored."

Will Michter's being named the World's Most Admired Whiskey catalyze even more global appreciation for America's native spirit? That remains to be seen, but it is certainly a landmark step in that direction.

Michter's To Release Its Toasted Barrel Finish Rye

Michter's To Release Its Toasted Barrel Finish Rye

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 22, 2023 - In September, Michter's Distillery will be releasing its US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Rye.

"We released the first toasted barrel whiskey of any American distillery in 2014 because we loved the unique taste profile. At the time, we had no idea that it would create a new whiskey category for people to enjoy," said Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco.

Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson oversees the special aging protocol that Michter's Toasted Barrel Rye undergoes. She observed, "Our Master Distiller Dan McKee and I first select fully matured barrels of our US*1 Rye. Then we transfer each of those rye barrels for finishing into a second barrel, made of special wood naturally air-dried and seasoned outdoors for 24 months and toasted to our specifications, but not charred. The Toasted Barrel Finish Rye is designed to showcase the beautiful extractives from a toasted only finish barrel that impart remarkable character and contribute to an exceptional experience."

According to Master Distiller McKee, the average barrel proof for the toasted rye barrels bottled for this release is 108.9 (54.45% ABV). The suggested retail price of Michter's Toasted Barrel Finish Rye is $120 for a 750ml bottle in the U.S. Speaking about the whiskey, McKee said, "I enjoy rye in general, and this Toasted Rye in particular is a full throttle flavor experience."

Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter's highly acclaimed portfolio includes bourbon, rye, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey. In October 2022, Michter's was named the Most Admired American Whiskey in a global survey. In January 2023, Michter's was named the #1 Top Trending American Whiskey brand by Drinks International in their Annual Brands Report.

Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco to be inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame®

Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco to be inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame®

LOUISVILLE, Ky., June 27, 2023- The Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame® has announced that it will induct Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco on September 13th, 2023.

A native New Yorker who later adopted Louisville as his second home, Magliocco initially fell in love with Kentucky bourbon while bartending during college at Yale, where he was a Religious Studies major. After earning a JD from Harvard Law School, during which time he spent summers selling Kentucky bourbon and other spirits, Magliocco embarked on a full-time career in the spirits and wine business. One of his first industry jobs was at a distributor, where he reported to the company's President R.C Wells, the former President of Four Roses.

Magliocco subsequently led the effort to develop Chatham Imports, the Manhattan-based spirits and wine supplier and eventual parent company of Michter's Distillery. During the 1990s, a challenging period for the American whiskey industry, Magliocco teamed up with his mentor and adviser Richard Newman, the former President of Austin Nichols, to enter the bourbon business, which they both viewed as being only temporarily out of favor. While selling the brand during a summer job, Magliocco had grown familiar with Michter's, a Pennsylvania-based whiskey company with a legacy stretching from the founding of a predecessor in 1753 until its bankruptcy in 1989. After the Michter's brand name went abandoned, Magliocco spearheaded Chatham's acquisition of the Michter's trademark in the 1990s for $245 and set out to restart the historic brand with whiskey made in Kentucky, which he considered the best place in the world for bourbon.

Magliocco has played a role in the resurgence of American whiskey. "There is no one who believes more in the potential of the Kentucky bourbon category," stated Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee. "I know I speak for our entire team when I say we are grateful for Joe's unwavering support, which has enabled us to make decisions that prioritize making the highest quality whiskey every step of the way." Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson added, "Joe's contributions will have a lasting impact on the Kentucky Bourbon industry and on how American whiskey is perceived around the world."

Over the years, the Louisville-based Michter's team assembled by Magliocco has made progress with the brand, which is now sold in all 50 United States and over 60 export markets. In its present form, Michter's has two Louisville distilleries – Michter's Shively Distillery and Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery – as well as a 205-acre farm and operations hub in Springfield, Kentucky. Magliocco joins Andrea Wilson, Michter's Master of Maturation and Chief Operating Officer, as Michter's second Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame® member.

"Kentucky bourbon has thrived and reached its current level of success because of all the great people working in all the positions in our industry. I am humbled and deeply honored to be included among this year's extraordinary inductees into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame®," remarked Magliocco.

Magliocco actively volunteers with schools and not-for-profit organizations. An Associate Fellow at Yale University's Benjamin Franklin College, Magliocco serves as a trustee of The Frazier History Museum and The Fresh Air Fund, as well as a member of the Harvard Law School Dean's Advisory Board. Magliocco splits his time between Louisville and New York. He works at Michter's with a team that includes his son Matt Magliocco and his niece Katharine Magliocco.

Michter's Addresses Shortages with Capacity Investments, Announces New Release of 10 Year Rye

Michter's Addresses Shortages with Capacity Investments, Announces New Release of 10 Year Rye

LOUISVILLE, Ky., April 25, 2023 - As Michter's continues to face inventory constraints due to strong demand, the company is taking steps to expand capacity responsibly. In recent years, Michter's has grown fermentation capacity by adding six 18,000-gallon fermenters made by Louisville-based Vendome Copper & Brass Works. In late 2022, Michter's transitioned its core Shively distillery to a 24/7 operation. Additionally, Michter's has made significant investments in its bottling operations. The company went live with new bottling equipment in January 2023 in order to bring more great whiskey to market.

While these measures are unlikely to satisfy domestic and international demand in the short term, they reflect an ongoing commitment to bring more Michter's to consumers without sacrificing the highest level of quality for which the brand is appreciated.

"We recognize the frustration of some of our supporters as they encounter challenges in finding certain Michter's releases on the shelf. We want our loyal Michter's drinkers to know we are trying to continue to invest in the growth of the brand while maintaining the exceptional level of our whiskeys," commented Andrea Wilson, Michter's Master of Maturation.  "We have an over 30-year planning horizon for our whiskeys and use models to plan sales and work hard to focus on staying true to the quality of our whiskeys," she added.

For over 20 years Michter's Executive Vice President Steve Ziegler has been tasked with allocating the Kentucky whiskeys offered by Michter's to the company's distributors and importers. "My job was a lot easier years ago when we felt lucky to sell 50 three bottle packs nationally in a month," observed Ziegler. "We are still quite small compared to many other whiskey companies. Our Master Distiller Dan McKee and our Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson decide when specific barrels are aged to their standards and ready to release, and I do my best to spread that whiskey around to our customers. Unfortunately, what we release simply is not enough to meet demand right now, and we are addressing the shortfall without cutting corners."

While thoughtfully expanding production over the years, Michter's remains determined to maintain its high quality and, if anything, improve it. "Our goal is to make the greatest American whiskey," said Master Distiller Dan McKee. "We would love to be able to offer more of it, but we simply won't do so until the whiskey is ready at the standard our loyal Michter's drinkers expect.  I do think that we have some good news to share in that respect, which is why I am so happy to introduce the 2023 release of Michter's 10 Year Rye."

While all types of Michter's continue to be allocated, the distillery is releasing 10 Year Rye for the first time since July 2022. A Kentucky style rye with a good amount of corn and malted barley in the mashbill, Michter's 10 Year Rye has a suggested U.S. retail price of $200 per 750ml bottle.

Said Wilson, Michter's Master of Maturation: "The 10 Year Rye release is elegant, yet full of herbal and honey characters with warm spice resulting in a captivating, rich, smooth drinking experience. I am hopeful that it will bring a smile to everyone who experiences it as we work to bring even more wonderful Michter's to market."

Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of exceptional quality. With each of its offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter's portfolio includes rye, bourbon, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey. In October 2022, Michter's was named the Most Admired American Whiskey in a global survey. In January 2023, Michter's was named the #1 Top Trending American Whiskey brand by Drinks International in their Annual Brands Report.

Michter's To Release 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon For First Time Since 2021

Michter's To Release 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon For First Time Since 2021

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb. 21, 2023 This March, Louisville-based Michter's Distillery will begin releasing its 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon. No Michter's 10 Year Bourbon was shipped by the company in 2022, so this will mark the first release of this single barrel whiskey since 2021.

"I thought that the 10 Year Bourbon we are now releasing was drinking beautifully last year, but our Master Distiller Dan McKee and our Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson told me that with one more year of maturation it would be extraordinary," stated Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. "At Michter's the goal we strive for is to produce the greatest American whiskey. We're grateful for all the understanding and patience that our loyal Michter's fans have shown in waiting an additional year for the release of our 10 Year Bourbon."

Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Famer Wilson brings tremendous experience to her role of overseeing maturation of all Michter's barrels. She observed, "There are many characteristics we are evaluating when considering barrels for this release including complexity, body and depth. These are the aspects of a whiskey that make it memorable, and we feel the additional time has complemented this release creating an experience that builds to the finish."

"One of the most important things I learned from our late Master Distiller Willie 'Dr. No' Pratt was patience. He would not release a product unless he felt it was at its peak maturation," commented McKee. "Last year, Andrea and I tasted the then already well over 10 year old bourbon and spoke about it. We both felt that it would be exceptional with one more year in the barrel. I'm so excited about how it turned out."

Michter's 10 Year Bourbon has a suggested retail price of $185 per 750ml bottle in the United States.

Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter's highly acclaimed portfolio includes bourbon, rye, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey. Currently all types of Michter's are being allocated because demand exceeds supply. In October 2022, Michter's was named the Most Admired American Whiskey in a global survey. LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 24, 2023- Michter's Distillery will begin shipping the 2022 Edition of its Celebration Sour Mash this February 2023. Originally intended to ship after its bottling in late 2022, the release was delayed by supply chain issues involving the arrival of packaging. This will be the fourth ever Michter's Celebration release and the first one since 2019.

When Michter's Celebration Sour Mash Whiskey was released in 2013, it marked a significant moment in United States whiskey history. For the first time, an American whiskey company was offering a rare blend for a suggested retail price of several thousand dollars. "It's been gratifying to see how whiskeys made in the United States have garnered increased respect and recognition both at home and abroad over the past decade," stated Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco.

Only 328 bottles of the 2022 Edition of Michter's Celebration will be released worldwide. It is 112.8 proof/56.4% alcohol by volume and will have a suggested retail price of $6,000 per bottle in the United States.

Each bottle of the 2022 Edition comes in a special gift box that has a drawer containing a letter signed by Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee. "This is the second time that I have had the honor of working with our team to produce a Michter's Celebration release," remarked McKee. "This edition contains whiskeys personally selected by me from seven extraordinary barrels: three of them Kentucky straight bourbon and four of them Kentucky straight rye."

The seven whiskeys in this special blend range in age from twelve to over thirty years old. Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson observed, "This whiskey is an exploratory journey of aged bourbons and ryes blended to perfection that leaves your palate captivated with its bold elegance. I am thrilled with this release and very proud of the Michter's team and our efforts to produce the best American Whiskey."

Michter's Named World's Most Admired American Whiskey

Michter's Named World's Most Admired American Whiskey

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 3, 2022 - Michter's has been named the World's Most Admired American Whiskey and the #2 Most Admired Whisky overall in the second edition of The World's Most Admired Whiskies, an annual top 50 list released by Drinks International.

"We are awestruck by this recognition and grateful to everyone who enjoys our whiskeys," commented Michter's Executive Vice President Matt Magliocco.  "It is a wonderful honor to be evaluated so highly by Drinks International's academy of experts."

Having initially launched in 2021, The World's Most Admired Whiskies was established to determine the trade's 50 most revered brands from across the planet. To create the list, Drinks International formed a voting Academy of independent whisky experts from across the world to give their 10 most admired brands based on quality and consistency, price-to-quality ratio and the strength of branding and marketing.

"Launching this project has been a great way to see which brands around the world are best regarded by our trade," said editor and founder Shay Waterworth. "The Drinks International Most Admired series is becoming one of the most influential within the industry. To even feature in the list is a great achievement."

"As a small, independent company, our focus has always been on producing the highest quality American whiskey regardless of cost. To see that dedication to quality being appreciated by an expert panel and such an esteemed publication means so much to our entire team," said Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee. "Of course, it also inspires us to keep improving and raising the bar moving forward."

Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter's highly acclaimed portfolio includes bourbon, rye, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey. Currently all types of Michter's are being allocated as demand exceeds supply. In a March 2022 Sotheby's auction, three separate Michter's bottlings each fetched US$25,000 or more. In September 2022, Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson was inducted into the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame in recognition of her lifetime of achievements in the industry.

Older barrels in Michter's rickhouses are monitored closely by the production team. McKee observed, "With the extra attention given to the older barrels, it's releases like the 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon that make me proud of our maturing team and all of their hard work in aging these beautiful whiskeys."
