Sagamore Spirit Launches Crowd-Sourced Effort to Uncover the Real Story of American Whiskey's Origins

Sagamore Spirit Launches Crowd-Sourced Effort to Uncover the Real Story of American Whiskey's Origins
The first ever Whiskey Wiki invites brown spirits lovers to share what they know, and potentially rewrite history in the process
BALTIMORE, March 29, 2019 What (or is it "which") came first: Kentucky bourbon or Maryland rye? Sagamore Spirit, maker of award-winning 83 proof and cask strength Maryland-style rye whiskies, today embarked on a mission to find out, and is inviting whiskey lovers across the country to help. With the launch of www.WhiskeyWiki.us, a timeline-style forum that invites submissions of historical evidence and healthy debate, the rye whiskey distiller is hoping to uncover the full, real story of American whiskey's origins
The effort is rooted in documents that Sagamore Spirit recently uncovered that suggest early Maryland settlers may well have been making – and selling – whiskey long before bourbon gained its reputation as America's native spirit. Sagamore Spirit discovered documentation deep in the Maryland State Archives of the imposition of the first whiskey tax in the then-colonies in 1756, four years before Jacob Beam was born, and nearly 40 years before Kentucky was founded through annexation from Virginia.
What's more, the Baltimore-based distillers visited the Maryland Historical Society to find an invoice signed by George Washington for a 40-gallon whiskey delivery to people at work improving the navigability of the Potomac River in 1785. At the time, nearly all whiskey consumed in the fledgling republic came from local producers.
"We're out to set history straight," said Sagamore Spirit President, Brian Treacy. "While we're headstrong on reviving Maryland-style rye, what we found inspired us to open this conversation wider. Pennsylvania and New York have a rich whiskey history, too. There's quite a story out there, now it's time to share it."
Contributing to Whiskey Wiki is simple. Those who have a story to tell about a notable event in whiskey history can add it directly to the site with supporting photos and documentation. All stories deemed valid by historians retained by Sagamore Spirit will be published on the official Whiskey Wiki timeline. But it doesn't stop there –  others are invited to challenge, support and enhance each posting to help the wiki paint a full and true picture of whiskey history. The next missing piece is out there waiting to be found – in attics, basements, or even family photo albums.
To share what you know about America's whiskey making heritage, visit www.WhiskeyWiki.us.
About Sagamore Spirit Sagamore Spirit opened its award-winning five-acre waterfront distillery campus in Baltimore in April 2017. Since then, nearly 60,000 guests have visited the campus and tasted the brand's 30-time award-winning rye whiskies. Each batch of whiskey is made with pure spring-fed Maryland water. The distillation team blends two different rye mash bills – a high rye and a low rye – and then adds limestone-filtered spring water transported 22 miles from Sagamore Farm, to create an 83 proof Maryland-style rye whiskey. 100 percent of Sagamore Rye is cut to proof with this distinct water. Sagamore Spirit also offers a Cask Strength whiskey that is 112 – 114 proof. Sagamore Spirit is committed to inspiring a global passion for Maryland Rye Whiskey.

ROK Drinks and the Humphrey Bogart Estate Announce New Labels and Increased Distribution for the Bogart Spirits Brand

LOS ANGELES, March 27, 2019 ROK Drinks, a company, co-founded by John Paul ROK Drinks and the Humphrey Bogart Estate announce new labelsDeJoria recognized as the co-founder of Paul Mitchell as well as Patron Tequila and U.K. entrepreneur Jonathan Kendrick, today unveil new labels for its premium Bogart Spirits range of gin, whiskey, vodka, and rum. Fusing Old Hollywood with contemporary design, the art deco-inspired labels are a subtle, nuanced ode to iconic film legend Humphrey Bogart. Bogart Spirits is a partnership between ROK Drinks and the Humphrey Bogart Estate, and its award-winning spirits are hand-made in small batches by artisans at its own craft distillery in California.

ROK Drinks and the Humphrey Bogart Estate announce new labels

"Since partnering with the Bogart Estate to honor Bogie's legacy with a line of spirits up to his storied standard, we've been thrilled with the response from lifelong fans and liquor aficionados alike," said Jonathan Kendrick, founder of ROK Drinks. "Ultimately, we wanted to ensure our growing customer base grasped the many elements behind Bogie beyond his unmatched acting and signature trench coat and fedora. We feel this new design perfectly reflects the full breadth of his essence while making for a striking addition to the modern bar."

The new front label and neck wrap feature an embossed metallic, geometric design reminiscent of a classic Hollywood stage set against a rich, dark color palette. The back label contains a short biography with essential facts from the multi-faceted life of the Rat Pack founder, along with one of four legendary Bogart quotes about drinking, such as "the whole world is three drinks behind." Inside, the flavor-forward taste and smooth finish of each spirit recall the favorite drinks of the man who was named Hollywood's greatest male screen legend of all time. Whether adorning a home bar or a bartender's shelf, the eye-catching Bogart's bottles will stand out in the best way possible.

"My father was so much more than a film star — he was a U.S. Navy veteran, a master chess player, a scratch golfer, a race-winning sailor, and of course, a man who knew how to appreciate a well-made cocktail," Stephen Bogart, son of Bogie and Bacall, reminisced. "The new Bogart's labels are a wonderful tribute to my father. They capture the fullness and complexity of both his life and our award-winning spirits."

ROK Drinks and the Humphrey Bogart Estate have carefully and organically built the Bogart Spirits brand since Stephen Bogart, and Bogart Estate CEO Robbert de Klerk first began discussing a spirits partnership with ROK Drinks co-founders John Paul DeJoria and Jonathan Kendrick in 2012. The new Bogart's bottles will be available for U.S. wholesale and retail purchase starting in March 2019. Bogart's increased domestic and international distribution throughout 2018 and is currently available in most major U.S. markets, as well as in Mexico and Europe. In 2019, the brand continued to expand its global footprint with distribution in Japan and other select countries.

Bulleit Frontier Whiskey Adds 12-Year-Aged Rye To Family Of Award-Winning Whiskeys

(PRNewsfoto/Diageo)SHELBYVILLE, Ky., March 25, 2019 In 2011, Bulleit changed the whiskey landscape forever by introducing Bulleit Rye at the request of bartenders from around the world who were interested in re-imagining classic, pre-Prohibition cocktails. Eight years, and multiple San Francisco World Spirts Competition Double Gold medals* later for Bulleit Rye, the category that Bulleit helped build is booming as consumers seek new, unique and premium offerings. To continue its commitment to exploration and fulfilling the desire of whiskey drinkers, Bulleit announced today the nationwide, limited availability release of Bulleit Rye 12-Year-Old Straight American Whiskey.(PRNewsfoto/Diageo)

(PRNewsfoto/Diageo)

Bulleit Rye 12-Year-Old Straight American Whiskey is the fifth addition to the Bulleit Frontier Whiskey family, as well as the first extension of Bulleit Rye, a whiskey with one of the highest rye percentages on the market. Using the same mash bill as its predecessor – 95% rye and 5% malted barley – this small-batch rye whiskey was fully aged and matured to perfection in new charred oak barrels for a minimum of 12 years to create a balance of smoothness and spice worthy of Bulleit Rye's impressive list of credentials.

"When we introduced Bulleit Rye, it changed the game for the category, and positioned us as a brand willing to take chances and try new things. We're constantly experimenting and striving to satisfy consumers' growing appetite for bold, new American whiskeys," said Ed Bello, Bulleit Frontier Whiskey US & Global Brand Director. "Rye remains the fastest growing North American Whiskey segment and Bulleit Rye has been the number one super premium Rye brand for the last six years.** With higher-end whiskeys driving much of that sales growth and a limited number of aged statement ryes on the market, Bulleit Rye 12-Year-Old is a natural way to expand our portfolio and provide a new ultra-premium offering that's absolutely delicious."

Bulleit Rye 12-Year-Old is a pleasantly dry, bold rye that possesses notes of dried orchard fruits with a hint of baking spice and oak on the nose. At 92 proof (46% ABV), this latest Bulleit release has a clean, crisp palate with flavors of dried pear, light toffee and oak with a hint of graham cracker spice. The finish is enjoyable with light wood and spice notes.

"Whiskey is heavily influenced by barrel aging, and as a blender, one of our most important responsibilities is to taste how the wood impacts the flavor of the liquid and brings out different notes," said Bulleit Frontier Whiskey Blender Andrew Mackay. "The barrels we mingled to produce Bulleit Rye 12-Year-Old were hand-selected for aging based on early identification of their superior quality. Rye's signature spiciness is certainly still prominent, and this extra aging complements that without being overwhelming as new levels of softness, clove character and vanilla and oak notes are evident. It's a beautiful whiskey to sip slowly and responsibly."

Bulleit Rye 12-Year-Old is available in Colo., Ill., N.Y., Ohio, Ore., Calif., Ky., Texas, Ga., N.J., Ariz., Mass., Md. and Washington D.C. wherever fine spirits are sold with a suggested retail price of $49.99 for a 750ml bottle. The whiskey is packaged in the iconic Bulleit frontier-inspired bottle, with a beige label that prominently features the 12-year-old age statement in green.

About Bulleit Frontier Whiskey
The Bulleit Distilling Co. was founded in 1987 by Tom Bulleit, whose signature Bulleit Bourbon is inspired by a family tradition that dates back to the 1800s. The brand's full line of award-winning whiskeys all use a distinctly high proportion of rye grain to other mash bill ingredients, which gives them their distinctive bold, spicy taste. In addition to its flagship Bulleit Bourbon, variants include Bulleit Rye, released in 2011; Bulleit 10-Year-Old, released in 2013; Bulleit Barrel Strength, released in 2016; and Bullet Rye 12-Year-Old, released in 2019. Now ranked as one of the fastest-growing whiskeys in America, Bulleit Distilling Co. calls Shelbyville, Ky.home since the 2017 opening of its state-of-the-art distillery and the much-anticipated spring 2019 opening of its high-tech and sensory-rich Visitor Experience. Guests will have the opportunity to learn more about the past, present and future of Bulleit when visiting this latest addition to the Kentucky Bourbon Trail®. For more information, visit

Michter's to Release US*1 Barrel Strength Rye

Michter's to Release US*1 Barrel Strength Rye
LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 19, 2019The Louisville based distiller will be releasing its Michter's US*1 Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey this April 2019.

Michter's Master Distiller Pamela Heilmann is clearly excited. She observed, "Since I joined Michter's, I've developed a greater appreciation of how good American Rye can be. I think this US*1 Barrel Strength Rye is really exceptional." Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson shared Pam's enthusiasm for the release, noting, "The increased corn and malted barley used in the rye recipe really allows the barrel to transform the product into a super smooth, rich and complex rye whiskey with an elegance on the palate."

Michter's US*1 Barrel Strength Rye is a single barrel product, and the average proof of the barrels in this April 2019release is 110.8 proof. The suggested retail price in the United States is $75 for a 750ml bottle. According to Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco, the idea to offer a barrel strength rye came from tasting different barrel samples at the distillery. "We would be sampling barrels of Michter's US*1 Single Barrel Rye before putting them to bottling proof, and people would say, 'Wow! This is really good,'" said Magliocco.

Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter's highly acclaimed portfolio includes bourbon, rye, sour mash whiskey, and American whiskey. In November 2018, a single bottle of Michter's Bourbon sold at a charity auction for over $17,000. in January 2019, Michter's was named the #1 Top Trending American Whiskey brand by Drinks International in their Annual Brands Report. The selection of Michter's US*1 Sour Mash by The Whisky Exchange as its 2019 Whisky of the Year marked the first time that a whiskey from the United States had achieved that honor.

In addition to Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery, which just opened to the public, the company has Michter's Shively Distillery in Louisville as well as its 145-acre farm and operations in Springfield, Kentucky.

From Dublin's Finest Mixologists to American Bars, Roe & Co Irish Whiskey Arrives in the U.S. in Time for International Whiskey Day

Roe & Co Irish Whiskey debuts in select markets this Spring.DUBLIN, March 19, 2019 As whiskey lovers all over the world prepare for International Whiskey Day on March 27, American imbibers and bartenders will have a new offering to choose from this year as Roe & Co, a premium Irish whiskey hits select U.S. bars and shelves this month. Perfected by bartenders for bartenders, Roe & Co was created in partnership between Diageo Master Blender Caroline Martin and five elite Dublin-based bartenders who together crafted a unique Irish whiskey blend that would hold its own in cocktails. With light pear notes reminiscent of the golden era of Irish whiskey, Roe & Co ushers in the future of the spirit's contribution to cutting-edge cocktail culture.

Roe & Co Irish Whiskey debuts in select markets this Spring.

In the true spirit of collaboration, the liquid has been specially blended under the leadership of Martin with a team of hand-picked Irish bartenders who represent some of Dublin's most celebrated cocktail establishments. Specifically, Martin's experience spans more than 30 years and helped lead to the discovery of this versatile blend of the very finest Irish whiskeys. Roe & Co initially launched in European countries in 2017 and will be available in select U.S. markets this month.

"We're extremely proud to partner with some of Dublin's most innovative mixologists that helped create the unique blend of whiskeys aptly named Roe & Co, an homage to celebrated Irish whiskey-maker George Roe," says Martin. "After two years of experimenting with more than 100 prototype blends, the team landed on a smooth balance of quality malt and grain, aged in ex-bourbon casks, that truly personifies the spirit of a new frontier of Irish whiskey."

On the nose, Roe & Co is creamy, delightfully fragrant and remarkably rounded with notes of soft spice and mellow spun sugar along with warm hints of woody vanilla. The quality and perfect balance of the blend is immediately apparent on the palate through its velvety texture and sweet flavors including spiced pears and vanilla. The finish is lingering and gentle, ending with a light creaminess.

Roe & Co's unique tasting notes make it perfect to serve as the feature of your cocktail of choice like a Roe & Roots (Roe & Co, fresh apple juice and club soda) or a Roe & Ginger Sour (Roe & Co, lemon juice, pear liqueur, sugar syrup and ginger), as well as on its own, with ice. Additional cocktails inspired by the Irish whiskey can be found at roeandcowhiskey.com/cocktails. Whether you choose to concoct a new creation or enjoy on the rocks, Roe & Co reminds you to always drink responsibly.

Named after George Roe, a true innovator of the golden era of Irish whiskey, Roe & Co's light pear note, echoes its heritage from the pear tree that stands on the old George Roe and Co grounds in Dublin dating back to the mid-1800s. The Roe family began distilling whiskey in the 1700s, but it was George Roe in the mid-1800s who turned his family's small distillery business into the largest distillery of its time in Ireland. His distillery at Thomas Street, a neighbor to the well-known Guinness brewery, remains a historic landmark.

To continue its lasting history, Roe & Co will honor the brand's heritage with a new distillery that will sit on Thomas Street in Dublin, adjacent to where the old George Roe and Co distillery once sat in the converted former Guinness Power House. Production at the new St. James's Gate distillery is slated to begin later this year.

This new non-chill filtered offering is bottled at an ABV of 45 percent (90 proof). Roe & Co can currently be purchased in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

For more information, visit roeandcowhiskey.com or follow Roe & Co at @RoeandCoWhiskey on Facebook and Instagram.

About Roe & Co
Roe & Co is named in honor of George Roe, the once world-famous whiskey maker who helped build the golden era of Irish Whiskey in the 19th century. His distillery, George Roe and Co, extended over 17 acres on Thomas Street in Dublinand was once Ireland's largest distillery. Diageo will now build on this rich heritage with the creation of a new distillery by converting the historic former Guinness Power House on Thomas Street. Roe & Co is made from the finest hand-selected stocks of Irish malt and grain whiskies and aged in bourbon casks. It has the signature smoothness of Irish Whiskey with remarkable depth of flavor – a luxuriously smooth blend, with a perfect harmony between the intense fruitiness of the malt and the mellow creaminess of the grain whiskies. The first blend of Roe & Co debuted in key European cities as part of Diageo's growing Reserve portfolio. For more information, visit roeandcowhiskey.com or follow Roe & Co at @RoeandCoWhiskey on Facebook and Instagram.

Conor McGregor's Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey Launches In Australia

Conor McGregor's Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey Launches In Australia
DUBLIN, March 13, 2019Eire Born Spirits and its founder, Conor McGregor, today announce the launch of Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey in Australia.  This announcement comes just weeks after Proper No. Twelve launched in the United Kingdom.  With this launch, the brand is now available in four countries including Ireland and the United States, where the brand has experienced record-breaking demand and sales in just its first six months on the market.  The brand's social media @properwhiskey is already the top spirit handle in the world clocking in at over 577,000 followers on Instagram, featuring exclusive content and videos created by McGregor himself.

"Today marks another great achievement for Proper No. Twelve.  Landing in Australia before St. Paddy's Day was my goal given the many thousands of requests we have had there since our Ireland, USA and UK launches," said McGregor.  "I appreciate the support from the people of Australia.  This is a proper Irish whiskey from a proper Irishman made with Ireland's best spring water, fine golden grain and single malt.  It is pure liquid gold."

McGregor added, "Many ask where the name Proper No. Twelve comes from.  I was born and bred in the Dublin suburb of Crumlin, Dublin 12 – this is a proper Irish whiskey and being a 'Dublin 12 Man' we named my brand Proper No. Twelve.  My success can be traced from the lessons I learned growing up in D12, the values of loyalty and hard work.  It is a brand made for all, not the select few.  I respect other whiskeys, but we are coming in strong and with purpose. As of today, we have shipped close to 200,000 9-liter cases from the distillery, an incredible level but only the beginning for me and my Proper team!"

It is important to McGregor to give back in a meaningful way.  First responders and emergency service providers exemplify his core values and those of Proper No. Twelve – commitment, loyalty and community – a "ONE FOR ALL" mentality.  "First responders and emergency personnel all over the world are the unsung heroes who act with courage and answer the call of duty every day for people in need," said McGregor.  The company has committed to donate $5 for every case sold to local first responders and emergency service organizations and charities, up to $1 million annually.  The organizations will be identified for each country around the world and donations will go directly to specific countries where sales take place.

Proximo Spirits is the global distribution partner for Proper No. Twelve.  The brand is now available in Ireland, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia.  Proper No. Twelve is 40% ABV.  Visit ProperWhiskey.com to learn more and follow the brands social channels @ProperWhiskey.
About Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey
Numerous Irish whiskey makers sought McGregor's endorsement over the years, but as a true born and bred Irishman, he did not want to simply endorse an Irish whiskey.  Inspired by his pride for Ireland and his love of Irish whiskey, McGregor wanted to create his own whiskey that would match his high standards and make his country proud.

For years, McGregor developed the brand under the project name "Notorious" through which came the foundation of what was to eventually become Proper No. Twelve.  It became a longer and more complicated project than originally expected, so McGregor turned to a distillery with a proven history of quality whiskey making.  He met his master distiller, and together they took painstaking measures to bring the whiskey to fruition.  "We created close to one hundred blends and ultimately selected what we knew was the one and only proper whiskey blend.  We took the time to develop an incredible whiskey that is reasonably priced and I am excited to share it with the world," said McGregor.

Proper No. Twelve's first expression is a blend of golden grain and single malt.  It is produced at the oldest distillery in Ireland in an area known for its rich soil and pure spring water.  Proper No. Twelve is smooth and approachable with hints of vanilla, honey-like sweetness and toasted wood.

About Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor is a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) World Champion, family man, philanthropist and entrepreneur who now can add Founder and Chairman to his name with the launch of Proper No. Twelve Irish Whiskey, owned by his company Eire Born Spirits.
McGregor has catapulted into stardom not only as an MMA World Champion but as a cultural phenomenon recognized for his outspoken personality and incredible work ethic.  He is among the biggest pay-per-view draws in MMA history, having headlined four out of the six highest ever-selling MMA, UFC pay-per-view events.  His boxing match with Floyd Mayweather drew 4.3 million pay-per-view buys in North America, the second most buys in combat sports history.
McGregor's strong work ethic and dedication to MMA have allowed him to achieve his tremendous success.  In the last five years, McGregor has gone from a plumber receiving social welfare to becoming one of the highest paid athletes in the world.

Each bottle will retail at a suggested MSRP of $25,000 with 150 bottles released globally.

"The Glenlivet Winchester Collection Vintage 1967 is a unique expression that allows the current generation to peek into the rich past of The Glenlivet," says Sona Bajaria, Vice President of Marketing, The Glenlivet, Pernod Ricard USA. "This rare release pays homage to The Glenlivet's accomplished Master Distiller, Alan Winchester, and to the valued heritage of the brand. Looking towards the next 50 years, we hope to continue to open up the scotch whisky category with expressions that can stand the test of time."

The Glenlivet Winchester Collection 1967 brings together malts from several rare oak casks, the youngest of which was filled in December 1967. Slowly matured in its cask over the 50-year period, portions of the whisky have evaporated through the wood over time, as typical with aged whiskies, resulting in a precious amount of rare liquid that remained for bottling in June 2018. The whisky is non-chill filtered at cask strength, and boasts a rich and fruity nose, notes of apricot jam and sweet ripe peaches, and a hint of toasted almonds. The smooth taste continues with fondant orange and milk chocolate flavors, velvety texture and a long, and a luxuriously sweet finish.

"The launch of Vintage 1967 is a momentous occasion for The Glenlivet, and a particularly proud one for me personally," says The Glenlivet Master Distiller Alan Winchester. "To have my name associated with one of the finest single malts that money can buy is an honor – what a fantastic way to celebrate more than 40 years in the Scotch whisky industry. By collaborating with the talented Bethan Gray, we have been able to epitomize not only Vintage 1967's luxurious quality but also the craftsmanship that led to its creation. The result is a beautiful and captivating bottle that ensures Vintage 1967 is a feast for the eyes as well the palate."

Taking inspiration from the rolling hills that surrounds The Glenlivet distillery in Scotland, award-winning British designer Bethan Gray handcrafted the exquisite bottle and case that hold the 50- year-old single malt, reflecting the craftsmanship and exceptional quality of its contents. Alan and Bethan worked closely on gathering influences for the design on the grounds of the distillery, where Bethan also has her own historical past. Her grandfather lived and worked as a forester in the Cairngorms, home of The Glenlivet, and the layers of mist that gather in the surrounding valleys became inspiration for the unique reinterpretation of her Dhow pattern that surrounds the bottle.
"Everything I do is about collaborating with people to tell stories through craft, so it was a real honor to work with Alan Winchester to create this incredibly special bottle of scotch whisky," said Bethan Gray. "We're both inspired by spending time in nature, so what better inspiration than the Cairngorms, where The Glenlivet distillery is based?"

The Scotch whisky making process itself was further inspiration for Bethan. The bottle is blown by master glassblower Brodie Nairn to precisely the right size and thickness and then hand-cut, creating an ombré color effect that mimics the ageing process of the liquid inside. It is then engraved and hand-painted, making each one unique. The hand-stained birds-eye maple case is made using solid copper overlays that reflect The Glenlivet's charred barrels and copper stills. Created by hand by artisans, the technique used to overlay the delicate copper was invented specifically for this case in its curved form. The mother-of-pearl inlaid into the case has been inspired by the local freshwater pearl mussel shells indigenous to the Spey River.

BEAM SUNTORY INTRODUCES LEGENT, A MASTERFUL COLLABORATION BETWEEN TWO CELEBRATED WHISK(E)Y LEGENDS

East Meets West as this first-of-its-kind bourbon melds Kentucky distilling tradition with Japanese blending excellence

NEW YORK, March 8, 2019 – Today, Beam Suntory proudly announces the launch of Legent™, a unique bourbon that brings together the best of the East and West in a way no other whiskey producer can. A first-of-its-kind, Legent (pronounced ‘lee-jent’) is a unique innovation that starts as a Kentucky Straight Bourbon with the Beam classic family recipe and is aged in wine and sherry casks before being blended with more Kentucky Straight Bourbon, resulting in a perfectly balanced yet complex and layered whiskey that is truly extraordinary.

At its heart, Legent celebrates mastery and collaboration. The super-premium bourbon is expertly distilled by Fred Noe, seventh-generation Master Distiller of Jim Beam, bourbon’s pioneering family, and artfully blended by Shinji Fukuyo, fifth-ever Chief Blender of Suntory, the founding house of Japanese whisky.

“Legent is the perfect articulation of the amazing things that can be achieved when two great cultures come together as one, sharing a unified vision to bring true innovation and best-in-class spirits to the world,” said Takeshi Niinami, Chief Executive Officer of Suntory Holdings. “This bourbon honors Fred and the Beam family’s proud traditions while showcasing Shinji’s award-winning blending capabilities. Quite simply, it’s a bourbon no one else could create.”

From grain to bottle, Legent is made using the finest ingredients and materials. Starting with high-quality grain, calcium-rich limestone water and newly charred white oak, the extra-aged Kentucky Straight Bourbon is then aged in hand-selected wine and sherry casks and rested over the warm Kentucky summer pulling spice and fruity undertones from the wine-soaked barrels. The liquid is then meticulously blended to achieve a bourbon like no other resulting in a bold spirit that is rich on the nose yet approachable and well-balanced on the palate with a bright, smooth and unexpectedly long finish.

“Legent is really something special. As a bourbon distiller, I enjoy breaking rules and creating new traditions,” noted Fred Noe, seventh generation Beam Family Master Distiller. “It was a real honor collaborating with Shinji on what I think is different from anything out there in the bourbon world.”

“I have always been fascinated by the flavor profiles that can be achieved through innovation,” said Shinji Fukuyo, Chief Blender with the House of Suntory. “Using the historic bourbon recipe of Fred’s family as a solid foundation, I was able to explore new taste profiles and reach a final product that reimagines what the future of bourbon can be.”

Legent comes to market during a time of strong whiskey category growth in North America, and is a unique offering for both frequent bourbon drinkers and discerning sippers looking to try something new. The highly versatile bourbon is best enjoyed neat, on the rocks or in a classic or new-age bourbon cocktail. Legent is available in 750mL (47% abv / 94 proof) in select markets throughout the United States for a suggested retail price of $34.99 USD.

Deerhammer To Release Exclusive Run Of Elevation Apis IV Quad Barrel Finished Bourbon

dh_bourbon_elevationfinish_group (1).jpg

BUENA VISTA, CO — Today Deerhammer releases a spirit that represents one of Colorado’s most compelling craft brewery-distillery collaborations: Elevation Apis IV Quad Barrel Finished Bourbon.

It starts with a beer, like all good whiskey stories do. Apis IV is a Dark Belgian-Style Ale brewed in the Trappist tradition and is one of the oldest recipes at Deerhammer’s neighbor, Elevation Beer Company in Poncha Springs. With a touch of locally sourced honey from Beekeepers Honey Boutique in Salida, the name Apis is a nod to the hardworking genus of the honeybee that help make this beer possible. Boasting notes of plum, fig, and molasses, Apis IV has a medium to heavy mouthfeel and finishes with subtle floral hops.

Deerhammer used Elevation’s Apis IV barrels to finish a batch of its Bourbon, already aged for two years in charred new oak. This barrel quickly became the honey barrel (or the beloved barrel) at the distillery and was an obvious choice when selecting an exclusive spirit to be sold at Total Wine & More in Denver, Colorado.

“This is one batch of bourbon with a very interesting journey from grain to bottle,” says Deerhammer Owner and Head Distiller, Lenny Eckstein. “I’ve never known of another spirit go into a beer barrel with such complexity to contribute to the bourbon. It’s almost like a fortified wine cask finish— the fruit notes that mingle with the malt are unreal.”

Beginning today, Deerhammer’s Elevation Apis IV Quad Barrel Finished Bourbon is available at Total Wine & More. This very limited quantity is for sale while supplies last.

For more information about this spirit, Deerhammer, or Elevation Beer Co., contact Emily Hutto at coop@radcraftbeer.com.
