Jack Daniel Distillery Celebrates 150th Anniversary with Limited Edition Whiskey

imageAugust 31, 2016  -

LYNCHBURG, TN - In celebration of its 150th anniversary, the Jack Daniel Distillery will release a limited-edition, Tennessee whiskey to commemorate the historic occasion. The Distillery was founded in 1866 by young entrepreneur, Jasper Newton ‘Jack’ Daniel, whose name remains on every bottle still produced at the original distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.

Master Distiller Jeff Arnett created a distinctive taste profile for this commemorative whiskey that combines the Distillery’s whiskey-making tradition with the artistry of modern-day craftsmanship.

“For this 150th anniversary whiskey, our coopers ‘slow-toasted’ the barrels to bring out the rich flavors and aromas of the wood, creating a contemporary expression of an 1866 barrel char,” explains Arnett. “We wanted to offer a unique whiskey that we think collectors and consumers alike will enjoy for their own celebrations and is as special as the anniversary that it celebrates.”

True to the process established by its founder, the grain bill for the anniversary whiskey is the same as the iconic Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7, consisting of 80 percent corn, 12 percent barley and 8 percent rye. Each drop was then mellowed through ten feet of sugar maple charcoal, before going into specially-crafted new American oak barrels, adhering to the guidelines required of a Tennessee whiskey.

Once filled, the barrels were placed in the “angel’s roost” of one of the oldest barrelhouses at the Distillery where whiskey has matured for generations at an elevation and with the exposure to sunlight that creates the perfect climate for the greatest interaction between the whiskey and barrel.

Barreled and bottled at 100 proof, the 150th anniversary edition offers complex tasting notes of butterscotch and toffee upon first taste followed by a full, smooth and lingering finish with warm flavors of toasted oak.

The 150th anniversary whiskey will be available beginning September 1 with a suggested retail price of $99.99 for a 1L bottle.

New Jameson® Irish Whiskey Shines Light On Head Cooper, Celebrating His Passion For The Craftsmanship Of Coopering Created by Midleton Distillery Head Cooper, Jameso

NEW YORK, Aug. 9, 2016  With a commitment honoring those behind the brand and their unwavering passion for longstanding traditions, Jameson Irish Whiskey releases Jameson The Cooper's Croze. A super-premium whiskey, Jameson The Cooper's Croze is part of The Whiskey Makers Series, a range of three whiskeys, each highlighting a specific part of the whiskey making process.

Curated by Ger Buckley, Jameson fifth generation Head Cooper, Jameson The Cooper's Croze is designed to showcase the varying characteristics imparted by the barrels – and by extension, the important role played by the cooper in the whiskey making process. With highly specialized knowledge passed down from his ancestors, Ger is tasked with selecting, repairing and maintaining the Midleton Distillery's diverse and treasured barrels. The whiskey's namesake – the croze – is Ger's most prized possession. A tool used to make the groove where the head of the barrel is positioned in order to seal the barrel, it symbolizes the important role played by each barrel.

"I've created Jameson The Cooper's Croze to show the versatility and profound influence barrels have on distinct whiskey flavors," said Ger Buckley, Head Cooper for Jameson Irish Whiskey. "Barrel making transcends generations, as I've used the same methods and tools passed down from my grandfather, that's the beauty of the craft."

Using virgin American oak, seasoned bourbon and Iberian sherry barrels, Jameson The Cooper's Croze is a perfect illustration of oak's influence on a whiskey's character. This non-chill filtered whiskey effortlessly carries the charred virgin oak character with vanilla sweetness from the seasoned bourbon barrels with rich fruit flavors and a fine balance of floral and spice notes.

"Jameson The Cooper's Croze embodies our unwavering dedication to upholding the craft and heritage passed down from generation to generation at the Midleton Distillery," said Sona Bajaria, Vice President, Jameson Irish Whiskey, Pernod RicardUSA. "This is an exciting time for Jameson Irish Whiskey, as we look to celebrate the man behind the barrel, with respect to his dedication and passion shown throughout his unique craft."

Jameson The Cooper's Croze will be available at participating retailers at a suggested retail price of $69.99.
