NEW YORK, Sept. 3, 2024 - To mark 200 Years Young, The Macallan is releasing two unique new whiskies in a celebration of the brand's interpretation of time travel through whisky mastery, presented in bespoke vessels created through cutting edge engineering and ancient craftsmanship.

TIME : SPACE COLLECTION:

The first is TIME : SPACE – a dual chamber vessel that includes the oldest whisky released by The Macallan at 84 Years Old, as well as a second single malt that marks the first from the brand's new distillery. The second release, TIME : SPACE Mastery, is a unique single malt with layers of complexity that embraces 200 years of history. Both releases are symbolic expressions of The Macallan, shaped by an ongoing dedication to incomparable craftsmanship and creativity, while highlighting a deep connection to nature. The Macallan has designed both creations in TIME : SPACE COLLECTION to depict nature's protection of its future, while also representing time travel with the past and future combined.

With only 200 in existence, one for each year of The Macallan's History, TIME : SPACE captures the essence of time travel – a spirit spanning incomparable craft across generations. The vessel has been designed with two chambers to hold each of the whiskies - housed in the outer chamber is the 1940 vintage, representing the past. Two casks meticulously hand selected - a first fill American Oak Butt and second fill European Oak Butt - both seasoned with sherry in Jerez de la Frontera and matured peacefully surrounded by nature in Speyside, Scotland. Bottled at 43.6% ABV, an extraordinary 84 years of maturation has produced rich natural color, exceptional depth and richness and full, long-lasting flavor unique to this rare, aged single malt Scotch whisky.

As a counterpart, the single malt housed in the central chamber is a 2018 vintage, marking a significant milestone as the first ever whisky from The Macallan's new distillery - a nod to the future of the brand and its commitment to excellence in its whiskies. During the transition to the new Distillery in 2018, The Macallan went to exacting standards to secure the continuity of the single malt quality and signature taste.

The unique vessel is displayed in an oak sculpture which has been purposefully designed to accentuate the 100% natural color of the whisky, and alternate layers of American oak and European oak have been selected to craft the display sculpture, as a homage to the brand's commitment to sherry seasoned oak casks.

1940 Vintage | Aged 84 Years
Nose:
Dark chocolate coated ginger, sticky dates and leather combine with antique oak and delicate hints of aromatic peat and ground coffee.
Palate:
Charred pineapple and baked peaches lead to crystalized ginger, hints of aniseed, blackberry jam and sweet woodsmoke.  Rich resinous notes linger on the palate alongside caramelized sugar.
Finish:
An extremely long finish with notes of dark chocolate and toasted oak.
ABV:
43.4%

2018 Vintage | Aged 5 Years
Nose:
Vibrant notes of fresh green apple and ripe pears, leads onto rich sticky toffee, honey, vanilla custard and soft wood spice.
Palate:
Golden sultanas and baked apples develop into buttery pastry dusted in icing sugar. Hints of lemon and lime follow, alongside vanilla shortbread.
Finish:
A medium finish, creamy, with sweet oak.
ABV: 54.9%

TIME : SPACE Mastery

Nose:
Sumptuous Medjool dates, sweet baked figs and rich milk chocolate accompanied by delicate hints of honey and tropical character, reminiscent of dried mango and ripe papaya. Encapsulated by complex sweet oak.
Palate:
A real sweetness is evident with sherry-soaked dried fruits, orange marmalade and honeycomb. Soft spiced notes of ginger and cinnamon develop.
Finish:
Bursts of caramelized pineapple and creamy vanilla linger with the exquisite balance of subtle dark chocolate and coffee.

Sustainability has been a constant guiding principle for The Macallan since it began crafting its single malt whisky in perfect harmony with the beautiful nature that surrounds The Macallan Estate in Scotland's Speyside in 1824. Inspired by The Macallan's deep-rooted connection to nature for nearly 200 years, The Harmony Collection is an exploration into the world of sustainable packaging. Fusing together innovative techniques with materials from the natural world at the end of their life to see them reborn with a renewed purpose.

To create the first edition in this new limited annual release series, The Macallan Whisky Maker Polly Logan embarked on a unique journey to Girona, Spain, where she immersed herself in the world of chocolate, exploring the chocolate-making process and uncovering the distinctive flavor profiles. "As I immersed myself in this world, I uncovered a great synergy between the whisky-making process and that of chocolate. Both take time and exceptional attention to detail, with even the slightest changes to the process encouraging different aromas and flavors to emerge," said Polly Logan, The Macallan Whisky Maker.

Polly collaborated with world-renowned pastry chef, Jordi Roca, the youngest of the acclaimed Roca brothers of El Celler de Can Roca, with whom The Macallan has a long-standing relationship. As part of the exploration, she visited Jordi's famed chocolate factory, Casa Cacao in Girona and she also spent time with master chocolatier, Damian Allsop. Polly Logan, Whisky Maker for The Macallan said: "Working in collaboration with Jordi Roca, acknowledged as one of the best and most creative pastry chefs in the world, and with exceptional chocolatier, Damian Allsop, I went on a journey of discovery, learning of the craftsmanship, passion and creativity which goes into making chocolate."

Through this unique experience, Polly drew inspiration from the duo's passion, knowledge and creativity to create The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao, searching the sherry seasoned oak casks maturing at The Macallan Estate to identify rare, indulgent chocolate notes. "The Macallan Harmony Collection Rich Cacao is a wonderful expression which brings together the world of whisky with the fascinating world of chocolate" said Polly Logan, Whisky Maker for The Macallan.

Jordi Roca said: "Our collaboration with The Macallan allows us to challenge our own creativity, and in this project, we have been allowed to play with cacao, which is one of my passions. Being able to inspire a whisky and to create a unique tasting experience has been wonderful."

Crafted from a harmonious combination of European and American oak casks, the result is an exceptionally rich single malt whisky characterized by a deep, dark chocolate profile, which pairs perfectly with the richest chocolate for a luxurious sensorial experience. The Macallan Debuts the Largest Assembly of Vintage-Dated Single Malt Whiskies in the World with its Fine & Rare Collection and New Release: The 1993 Edition

NEW YORK, Oct. 21, 2020 - With fifty-seven vintages, The Macallan Fine & Rare Collection marks its largest array since the inception of the collection twenty years ago. Today, The Macallan unveils the latest expression of this iconic collection: The 1993 Edition. The newest expression joins its storied predecessors, each completely individual but unmistakably The Macallan. Spanning eight decades from 1926 to 1993, each with a timeless story to share, the Fine & Rare Collection is the spirit of the Twentieth Century.

The Macallan Fine & Rare Collection stretches back to 1926 and continues to its newest 1993 release. As a collection, these bottlings provide a glimpse into the decades that marks their labels. Over the years, the Fine & Rare Collection has underpinned The Macallan as the one of the world's most valuable and collectible single malt whiskies, sweeping auctions around the world. Available in very limited quantities, the Collection's vintages come predominantly from single casks.

To capture the essence of the Fine & Rare Collection and the history of each decade from which they derive, one of the world's leading fashion photographers, Tim Walker, whose work has graced the pages of renowned publications for years, journeyed to The Macallan Estate on the banks of Scotland's River Spey.

For the 1993 Edition, Walker posed the bottle with a bird's nest, weathered twine, the handpiece of a clock, and flowers, among other details, against a backdrop of shadowed sky blue. The portrait is a love letter to the 1990s, which witnessed the coming of the Internet and the advent of the environmental movement, as well as to Speyside and the Highlands, and hints at the passage of time. Each vintage and according decade is uniquely represented through Walker's artistic lens.

Matured in a single sherry seasoned American oak hogshead cask for 27 years, this exquisite single malt was distilled at a time in which concern for the planet was on the rise, but on The Macallan Estate this was nothing new. For nearly 200 years The Macallan has been intrinsically connected to nature and in 1993, as now, this single malt revelled in its natural home, beside the River Spey, in a peaceful, rural setting. With only 256 bottles available, the 1993 Edition joins a truly exquisite collection of single malts.

Color: Warm mahogany
Aroma: Vanilla fudge, citrus merge with bright fruits of red cherry, plum and peach. A rich fig and spiced combination of cinnamon and ginger. Hints of salted popcorn combined with peach, figs and cherries. Rich antique oak leather and cigar box.
Palate: Sweet oak, combined with rich dark chocolate. Caramelized grapefruit blends into vanilla. Moving into wood spices of ginger, hints of citrus and a light liquorice, antique oak, mint, forest fruits and dark chocolate.
Finish: Long with a rich ginger and chocolatey intensity.
