The Limited Release Marries a Selection of Ruby Port and Carcavelos Fortified Wine, ex-Bourbon, and STR (Shave, Toast, Re-Char) Casks

Penderyn, Wales – May 31, 2022: Award-winning Welsh whisky company Penderyn Distillery announces Penderyn USA Limited Release #1, the first of an ongoing series of small batches to be released in the U.S. The rare release of 1,210 bottles comprises Single Malt from four casks: an ex-bourbon barrel, an STR cask (Shave, Toast, Re-Char), and two from Penderyn’s finest sweet Portuguese wine barriques collection (Ruby Port and Carcavelos fortified wine). The limited release, bottled at 50% ABV, is solely available in the U.S. through importer ImpEx Beverages in San Francisco, California.

Penderyn Master Blender, Aista Phillips, has expertly crafted the small batch by marrying a selection of unconventional casks to achieve new and intriguing flavors. “These small batch releases are completely distinct from anything else in our core range of premium single malt Welsh whiskies,” explains Giancarlo Bianchi, Penderyn’s Commercial Director. Adding a distinct touch, 25% of the batch comes from STR (Shave, Toast, Re-Char) casks, a technique that was developed by the late Dr. Jim Swan, a renowned whisky expert and distiller who was instrumental in creating Penderyn’s house style.

Penderyn USA Limited Release #1 is 75% double-distilled in a traditional ‘lantern’ still (which Penderyn acquired in 2014 in order to experiment with) with the remaining 25% distilled in Penderyn’s signature single copper-pot Faraday Still. The limited edition is released in the U.S. as Penderyn gears up to celebrate the one-year anniversary of its new flagship distillery, which opened to the public on June 1, 2021 in Llandudno, North Wales.

The marriage of sweet Portuguese wine and ex-Bourbon casks results in a nose of apples and pears with a creaminess that incorporates caramel and raisins. On the palate, vanilla and honey sweetness with orchard fruits and marmalade are complemented by light notes of oaky spice. Toasted wood dryness with peppery spices linger with the finish. 

Limited bottling of 1,210, with a recommended retail price of $110, are on store shelves in CA, MA, NY/NJ, NE, IL, KS, AZ, NV, TX, DC/DE/MD, WA, TN, OR, and MN.

Joe Doucet's Tropos and Sabine Marcelis' SHIFT are the latest capsules in the Mortlach by Design collection

NEW YORK , May 26, 2022  Mortlach Single Malt Scotch Whisky, a nearly 200-year-old treasure of Scotland's iconic Speyside region, is partnering with the American industrial designer Joe Doucet and the Netherlands-based designer Sabine Marcelis to release two new bespoke products during NYCxDesign in May. Tropos, a bold and reflective chair, and SHIFT, a delicate yet structural glass bar cart, embody the complexity and individuality of the Single Malt Scotch that inspired them. The pieces will be unveiled during NYCxDesign in an exciting and immersive installation in collaboration with SIZED.

Tropos, by Joe Doucet, was inspired by "The Way," the unique, top-secret distillation process exclusive to Mortlach that has been passed down by distillers for generations. The resulting liquid produced by distillation in six distinct stills - an essential element of "The Way" - was the driving force behind Doucet's creative process, from the design's conception to its name, Tropos, which translates to 'The Way' in Greek.

"My aim was to design an immersive space where one could fully engage in the complexity and depth of Mortlach Whisky as they sat," Doucet explained. To achieve this, he played with the archetype of a classic wingback chair which envelops the sitter and is meant to block out external sight and sounds. In that spirit, the reflective interior of the chair creates an infinite mirror, further engrossing the sitter in the mystery that defines Mortlach.

SHIFT, by renowned Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis, is simultaneously mysterious and accessible, inspired by the enigmatic nature of Mortlach. The bar cart is incredibly dynamic; the rich brown and honey hues of the glass are dually translucent and opaque,  imitating the tint and transparency of Mortlach liquid. The object itself is both sculptural in its composition and functional in its use. The two intertwined volumes create an intricate and modern feel, allowing people to play with the positioning of their Mortlach bottles and barware. "Similar to how Mortlach reveals its layered flavors upon tasting, the bar cart reveals its dynamic layers when explored and used to serve," Marcelis revealed. The top piece of the bar cart is loose, so anyone can choose to use it as a tray, leave it on top to serve glassware, or remove it for external presentation. The bar cart is mobile, with wheels giving it the flexibility to move with the user. "The mobility and versatility of SHIFT is a reflection of the journey one takes while sipping Mortlach."

The 2022 edition, crafted by three-time award-winning Master Blender Stephanie Macleod, is a 19-year-old Scotch Whisky double-aged with an extra-matured finish exclusively in ex-Bourbon, new American Oak casks and ex-Rye Whiskey casks.

The balanced and vibrant whisky is as rich and complex as the legendary game of golf, featuring notes of heather, honey, butterscotch, and cinnamon spice with a rich and fruit forward finish. Comprised of up to 40 different single malt and grain whiskies and inspired by the rich legacy and ethos of the U.S. Open®, "From Many, One", this celebratory bottle highlights that from many casks, one champion blend emerges.

As part of the multi-year agreement with the United States Golf Association (USGA), DEWAR'S will produce a special limited-edition commemorative bottle for each year's U.S. Open, to be sold online and at all fine wines and spirits retailers, as the official Scotch whisky and proud supporter of the US Open Championship®. This year's tournament is scheduled for June 16-19 at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass.

"When creating this blend of scotch whiskies, I wanted to ensure the craft and traditions of over 175 years of Dewar's whisky distillation and blending in Scotland were fully enhanced by the best of American wood and cask aging. We took pristine new American oak casks that have never been used to age either bourbon or sherry prior to this 19-year-old scotch and we finished many of this blend's components in these. Then we took ex-Bourbon and ex-Rye whiskey casks to finish other components in it. The result is a DEWAR'S 19-year-old whisky, that on the nose has a combination of vanilla and wood spices, followed on the palate by flavor notes of dried apricot, butterscotch and hints of vanilla." says Stephanie Macleod, Master Blender for DEWAR'S. A special addition to the 122nd U.S. Open Championship® this year is the "DEWAR'S Lemon Wedge", an invigorating twist on the classic "Highball", which will serve as the official cocktail of the U.S. Open. The recipe features DEWAR'S 12-year-old whisky, club soda, fresh lemonade and is topped with a golf tee pick and lemon wedge for garnish. The DEWAR'S Lemon Wedge will be offered to patrons on-site and will be served in a special edition US Open memorabilia cup in hospitality venues and ticketed facilities across the grounds. Howler Head is the original banana-flavored super-premium Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. It starts with real, carefully crafted Bourbon made by Master Distiller Jacob Call at Green River Distilling Co. with a proprietary yeast, the finest grains and mineral-rich water filtered through Kentucky limestone. The whiskey is distilled in a legendary 100-year-old Vendome all-copper column still. The resulting Bourbon is then aged for two years in American white oak barrels with a #4 “alligator” char in traditional wood rick houses. Kupu Spirits Whiskey is distilled from a blend of corn, rye, and malted barley then aged on the slopes of Haleakala in new charred American oak. The 88 proof Whiskey is an exceptional expression of caramel and vanilla building to peppery spicy notes with a hint of nuttiness.

The ready-to-enjoy craft cocktail, Whiskey Ginger, blends Kupu Spirits Whiskey with Maui Brewing Company’s Island Ginger Beer, which is created in-house using all-natural ingredients such as cane sugar, local honey, and Hawaii-grown ginger. The Whiskey Ginger has an ABV of 7%.

HUNTLY, Scotland, May 17, 2022 Scotch whisky company, Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky, has released two very special whiskies as part of their 'Rarest of the Rare' portfolio.

Dating back to 1969, the launch of a Kinclaith 51-year-old and Caperdonich 50-year-old form part of a collection of rare whisky casks from closed distilleries, that Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky has matured in their warehouse for half a century.

Both whiskies have notable histories; Kinclaith's transitory existence ended in 1975 and production of Caperdonich from Rothes finished in 2002.

These sought-after whiskies are rarely released and it's the first time that the Aberdeenshire bottler has launched drams dating back over 50 years.

Kinclaith's origins date back as far as 1957.  Located on the south side of the river Clyde, this small malt distillery was housed within the massive Strathclyde grain distillery complex. The vital ingredients were all locally procured and the liquid matured in a combination of American and European oak casks, producing some of the finest malt whisky over an 18-year period. Unfortunately, it was closed in 1975 and demolished to make way for an extension being built at Strathclyde.

Caperdonich's conception dates back much further to 1898.  Mothballed for approximately six decades Caperdonich's production was reinstated in 1965 to fulfil demand for Glen Grant, culminating in the expansion of the Caperdonich distillery site in 1967. The new pot stills were steam heated which was a very modern technology at the time and the whisky was given a new appellation in 1966, Caperdonich. The name was chosen after its water source.

A limited release of less than 100 handcrafted glass decanters is available of each whisky worldwide.  The bottles will be individually numbered and engraved as well as housed in a beautiful lockable framed box, inside a brushed stainless steel carry case.

The 50-year-old Caperdonich delivers tasting notes that are beautifully malty and sweet.  On the palate you'll find a frothy caramel latte topped with cinnamon.  A long-lasting finish of soft gentle warm spices and sweet toasted oak notes round it off.

The 51-year-old Kinclaith is full gold in colour and on the nose has fragrant sweet oak notes.  Even after 50 years the cask remains active offering seasonal spices of clove and cinnamon with remarkable freshness.  It's a beautifully structured whisky, with the cask and distillate in perfect harmony.

Commenting on the launch, Chairman Euan Shand, said; "I feel it is a privilege to be the custodian of these stunning rare casks.  Originally filled back in 1969 it's the start of an exciting chapter at Duncan Taylor as we plan to release a selection of rare malts from our portfolio over time."

The story of Yamazaki is the story of Japanese Whisky. In 1923, when Shinjiro Torii built Japan's first malt distillery in Yamazaki, he had no one with whom to exchange and broaden his malt repertoire. Being the Founding House of Japanese Whisky meant that the House of Suntory had no choice but to build its own approach to crafting whisky. Experimenting with a variety of grain types, wash backs, distillation methods, casks and blending techniques resulting in the House of Suntory's globally acclaimed Tsukuriwake style - artisanship through a diversity of making. Through years of experimentation, repeated trial and error, perseverance and persistence, it took three generations, three Master Blenders and five Chief Blenders to transform what happened out of necessity into one of the key signatures of the House of Suntory. Suntory continues to produce a depth and breadth of malt whisky components that keep pushing the boundaries of what Suntory Whisky can be.

The 2022 Yamazaki Limited Edition Tsukuriwake Selection, initially released in Japan in 2020, will be available in the next month in select global markets including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Austria, Spain, Singapore, Taiwan, China, South Korea, Thailand and Australia. Each expression is bottled at 48% ABV and has a suggested  retail price of $450 USD with the exception of the Mizunara bottling, which has a suggested retail price of $620 USD.

YAMAZAKI PUNCHEON
The Puncheon is considered as the "heart" of what makes Yamazaki Single Malt, Yamazaki.
The Yamazaki Puncheon Single Malt Whisky is comprised of meticulously selected malts aged exclusively in puncheons crafted by Suntory artisans from hand selected American oak. With a capacity of approximately 480 liters, these large casks allow malt whiskies to mature slowly, imbuing them with a complexity and vibrance. The Puncheon cask malt whiskies impart their subtle notes essential to the delicate base of the Yamazaki Single Malt.

The Peated malt whiskies impart their subtly smoky, earthy notes essential to the complexity of the Yamazaki Single Malt.

YAMAZAKI SPANISH OAK

CLERMONT, Ky., May 13, 2022- Yesterday, the James B. Beam Distilling Company celebrated more than two centuries of bourbon legacy by setting sights on the future with a historic announcement. As the First Family of Bourbon commemorated the completely revamped distillery homestead and visitor experience – which also features the newly opened Fred B. Noe Distillery and The Kitchen Table Restaurant – Fred Noe, the James B. Beam Distilling Company's 7th Generation Master Distiller, announced the appointment of Freddie Noe as Master Distiller of the Fred B. Noe Distillery.

"There is nothing in this world that would give me more pleasure and make me prouder than seeing Freddie step into the role of Master Distiller," shared Fred Noe in an emotional toast in front of friends and family during the celebration of the reimagined James B. Beam Distilling Co. "One of my biggest regrets is to never have distilled alongside my own father, Booker, so working side-by-side with Freddie will be a dream come true. I believe that a Master Distiller should understand the craft of distilling, uphold quality, and honor tradition while spearheading innovation. Freddie Noe previously surprised and honored Fred Noe in 2019 when he announced the name of the new distillery as the Fred B. Noe Distillery. Freddie played a pivotal role in the development of this project, leading and manifesting Fred's vision from more than five years ago. Fred had always been inspired by his own father, Booker Noe, who created the original small-batch bourbons. Now, Freddie will continue leading this effort with some of the James B. Beam Distilling Co's most popular super-premium whiskies such as Little Book® and Bookers®, created by his grandfather, Booker. Freddie was often referred to as Little Book by Booker because of the similarities between themselves. Bookers started the super-premium bourbon segment and now, as Master Distiller, Freddie plans to launch the next generation of super-premium whiskies for the James B. Beam Distilling Co, just like his grandfather. The Distillery also plays a large part in the revamped visitor experience by offering an insider's look into the family history and legacy, distillation process, and of course unique tasting opportunities.

Yesterday, Fred had the pleasure of turning the tables on Freddie when he gave an emotional speech with the unexpected announcement of Freddie's new title. This is the first time in the history of JBBDCo that there are two family members, working alongside one another, sharing the Master Distiller title.

While Fred Noe will maintain his role as Master Distiller, overseeing the James B. Also housed at the Fred B. Noe Distillery is a state-of-the-art classroom for the University of Kentucky®'s James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits. Freddie developed an apprenticeship program after the institute was launched, with 200 hours of customized technical content for James B. Beam Distilling Company operators, wherein future leaders in the American Whiskey industry will come together to learn the genuine whiskey-making craft. The institute is designed in partnership with the University of Kentucky and the Kentucky Distillers Association to educate the next generation through a first-of-its-kind curriculum that covers the skills needed to succeed in the distilled spirits industry.

The Fred B. Noe Distillery was part of a multi-million-dollar renovation to bring to life the rich stories of the First Family of Bourbon and the legendary brands that chart the history of American Whiskey. This revamp also includes an updated visitor experience, offering behind-the-scenes peeks at their incredible brands, a tasting room and even customizable experiences. The James B. Distilled at Luxco's Ross & Squibb Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Alias is bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV) and will be available starting May 2022.

Alias Straight Rye Whiskey features a mash bill that is 51% rye, 45% corn and 4% barley malt, delivering tasting notes that include a balanced aroma of sweet fruit and rye spice, complemented with slight hints of mint; a palate that offers forward notes of caramel, vanilla and fruit with a bold rye finish; and flavors of fruit, rye, spice, mint, caramel and vanilla throughout.

The recently announced awards spotlight Penderyn’s Celt and Rich Oak expressions with Double Gold designations, and Myth, Madeira, and Portwood with Gold medals.

The Bonded Series honors the whiskey making excellence of the iconic Jack Daniel Distillery and will be a permanent extension in the Jack Daniel’s Family of Brands.

Both Jack Daniel’s Bonded and Triple Mash are Bottled-in-Bond at 100 proof (50% abv), with packaging inspired by the original design of the 1895 Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey bottle. As stipulated by the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897, a bonded whiskey must be distilled by a single distiller during a single season, matured in a government bonded warehouse for at least four years and bottled at 100 proof.

Jack Daniel’s Bonded is Jack’s time-honored recipe of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye. Barrels were hand selected for their unique and particular characteristics of deeper color, flavor, and aroma, which bring a darker, richer, and more oak-forward character to Jack Daniel’s Bonded. It is a big, bold Tennessee Whiskey at 100 proof with layered notes of caramel, rich oak, and spice giving way to a pleasantly lingering finish.

Jack Daniel’s Triple Mash is a blend of three straight Bottled-In-Bond whiskeys – 60% Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye, 20% Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey and 20% Jack Daniel’s American Malt. Each expression is distilled in Lynchburg, Tennessee, in the same distilling season, aged to the stipulations of the Bottled in Bond Act, then blended and bottled at 100 proof. It’s a remarkable whiskey that can only be crafted by a complete distillery like Jack Daniel’s. Jack Daniel’s Triple Mash has pleasant notes of honey, malt, and soft oak leading to a long lasting well-rounded finish.
