Old Forester 1910 Extra Extra Old Returns

Old Forester 1910 Extra Extra Old Returns

From Old Forester:

LOUISVILLE, Ky., July 16, 2025 - Today, Old Forester announces the annual release of a fan favorite: 1910 Extra Extra Old, part of 117 Series.

The double-barreled bourbon is aged for an extra 24-months in a heavily charred secondary oak barrel.

1910 Extra Extra Old debuted in Spring 2021 as a result of an experiment of aging 1910 Old Fine Whisky for an extended finishing period which impacted the expression's tasting profile.

"This bourbon exemplifies our innovative spirit at Old Forester by taking something great and making it even better. The additional maturation leveraged to produce this release unlocks incredibly robust and distinctive flavor," Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo said.

Old Forester 1910 commemorates the October 22, 1910 distillery fire at 117 Main Street. A batch of mature whisky, ready to be bottled, was then re-barreled in new barrels so it could be removed due to the fire damage. For Extra Extra Old, the extra time in its secondary barrel extracts a more heavily charred influence.

Old Forester Extra Extra Old, $64.99, is bottled at 93 proof and will be available in limited quantities at the Old Forester Distillery starting July 16 as well as select Kentucky retailers. It is also available in the online store at shop.oldforester.com for shipping to states where it is legal (D.C., KY, NE, NH, ND only).

For more information, please visit OldForester.com.

Tasting notes:

Aroma -- Rich notes of sticky toffee pudding with toasted hazelnut, complimented by a buttery silky texture

Taste -- sweet almond and toasted oak create a comforting and warm palate with balanced baking spice and a velvety mouthfeel

Old Forester Announces Return of 117 Series: Extra Old

Old Forester Announces Return of 117 Series: Extra Old

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 22, 2025 -- Today, Old Forester announces the return of Extra Old, a limited-edition whisky derived from an extra-long double-barreling process. This liquid was first released in February 2022 as an installment of the brand's acclaimed and limited-expression lineup, the 117 Series.

To create this unique expression, Old Forester aged its 1910 whisky in a secondary barrel for an additional 18 months, resulting in a rich flavor profile with pronounced caramel notes.

"This expression showcases the exceptional flavors that can come from the second barrel, and how we can layer the flavors we achieve from maturation through the double barreling process"

Master Taster Melissa Rift said. "Whisky lovers can taste the history captured in this bottle."

Old Forester 1910 is a coveted expression commemorating the October 22, 1910 distillery fire at 117 Main Street. A batch of mature whisky, ready to be bottled, was then re-barreled in new barrels so it could be removed due to the fire damage. What emerged from the re-barreling was a full-bodied whisky, remarkable enough to become an entirely new expression – Old Fine Whisky. For Extra Old, the brand left the 1910 whiskey aging in a secondary barrel and extracted a more heavily charred influence.

Tasting Notes:

AROMA:
On the nose, this expression showcases chocolate covered cherries, burnt caramel and graham cracker with subtle notes of barrel smoke and creamy butterscotch

FLAVOR:
The palate is balanced and buttery with pops of spiced pear and apple as notes of chocolate and cinnamon graham cracker persist

FINISH:
A balanced finish presents warm spiced cinnamon, apple skin and lightly charred oak creating a long and flavorful finish

Extra Old is bottled at 93-proof in a 375 ml bottle. A limited quantity will be available at Old Forester Distillery starting at 10 a.m. EST on January 22, 2025 and is available for shipping in states where it is legal (KY, NH, NE, ND, D.C.) atshop.oldforester.com It is also available at select Kentucky retailers. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $64.99.

Old Forester 1924 Returns: 10-Year-Old Bourbon Back on the Shelf Nationwide

Old Forester 1924 Returns: 10-Year-Old Bourbon Back on the Shelf Nationwide

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 7, 2025 - Today, Old Forester® announces Old Forester 1924 is returning to shelves for a second year. When introduced last January, this 10-year-old 100-proof bourbon sold out nationally in weeks.

"Old Forester 1924 quickly became a consumer favorite of our beloved Whiskey Row Series," said Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo.  "We are glad to see it return to stores, bars and restaurants across America."

This expression features a mash bill of 79% corn, 11% rye and 10% malted barley rather than the traditional Old Forester recipe of 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley.

This 10-year-old age-stated bourbon is the newest addition to the brand's Whiskey Row Series, a collection of Old Forester expressions that commemorate distinguishable moments from the brand's 153-year history.

When more than 200 distilleries in Kentucky were forced to close during Prohibition, Old Forester continued operations because the federal government issued them one of six permits to continue to bottle existing whiskey stocks as medicine. In 1924, Old Forester acquired barrels from neighboring closed distillers, each containing different mash bills, and bottled that liquid as Old Forester. This special release commemorates that moment in time.

When 1924 was first released last year in January 2024 it celebrated and honored the 100th anniversary of whiskey innovation as Old Forester is the only bourbon brand produced before, during and after Prohibition.

"With a new mash bill and 10-year age statement, 1924 features a unique taste unlike any other Old Forester expression, but fits perfectly within our storytelling Whiskey Row series," said Master Taster Melissa Rift. "After such a quick sell-out last year, this re-release gives more whiskey drinkers the chance to taste – and love – this dynamic expression."

The Whiskey Row series now includes:

  • 1870 Original Batch
  • 1897 Bottled in Bond
  • 1910 Old Fine Whisky
  • 1920 Prohibition Style
  • 1924 10-Year-Old

Tasting Notes:

  • Color: Dark graham cracker.
  • Aroma: Soft notes of fudge, cocoa, marzipan, and cured tobacco layered over
  • hints of rich oak and warm cinnamon.
  • Flavor: Chocolate-covered graham cracker dusted with cinnamon.
  • Finish: Hints of spice and graham cracker crumbles.

Old Forester 1924 is 50% ABV (100-proof) and is available nationwide starting today at participating retailers and at Old Forester Distilling Co. for $119.99.

Old Forester Releases its Rarest Bottle Ever: the 150th Brown-Forman Decanter

Old Forester Releases its Rarest Bottle Ever: the 150th Brown-Forman Decanter

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov. 16, 2023 - Old Forester is releasing the rarest bottle it has ever produced – a decanter to honor the brand's 150th anniversary filled with extraordinarily exquisite 12 ½ -year-old bourbon.

Five hundred (500) bottles were originally crafted for members of the Brown family, who own Brown-Forman, and key partners of the company. One hundred and fifty (150) were set aside for special tastings and events at the company.

But the global pandemic in 2020 shuttered those plans – and those 150 bottles remained in storage.

Now, Old Forester is offering them to the public.

The decanter, priced at $2,500, goes on sale today only at oldforester.com – no bottles will be sold at the distillery itself. People who purchase the bottle can only pick them up on December 5, the anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition. The bottle purchase includes a private VIP tourof the Old Forester distillery, along with cocktails and appetizers with members of the Brown family.

On April 18, 2008, Master Distiller Chris Morris hand-selected six barrels for this special decanter. It was bottled 150 months later ( 12.5 years), in 2020. These barrels were matured in Warehouse J, top floor 8, Rick 44, tier 1.

"Old Forester is the only bourbon to exist before, during, and after Prohibition – and what better way to celebrate that legacy than offering to the public this rare decanter," said Old Forester Master Taster Meliss Rift.

The decanter is presented in a custom wooden handmade box – the wood was recovered from the fire at Old Forester on Whiskey Row in 2015. The fire nearly destroyed the Whiskey Row block.

The 150th decanter is a nod to the Old Forester historic holiday decanters in the 1950s and 1960s designed by Raymond Loewy, the celebrated father of industrial design.

A special year-long exhibit, which opens this month at the Frazier Museum, tells the story of those mid-century decanters. The Frazier, at 9th and Main, in downtown Louisville, is considered the start of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

Old Forester® Releases its Second Annual King Ranch Limited-Edition Whiskey

image

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Oct. 2, 2023 - Old Forester®, the first bottled bourbon, and King Ranch, the birthplace of American Ranching, today released the second annual batch of their limited-edition whiskey – Old Forester King Ranch.

The bourbon pays homage to the hard work, ingenuity and lasting legacy of two iconic brands with 300 years of combined American history – the heritage of the Brown family of Brown-Forman and the lineage of King Ranch founder Richard King.

"This bourbon is rich and bold in taste – the perfect tribute to two rich and bold American brands," said Old Forester Master Taster Melissa Rift.

Available only in Texas starting October 1, 2023, Old Forester King Ranch Edition is bottled at 105 proof from a proprietary batch of Old Forester Bourbon using heavily charred barrels. The bourbon is finished through King Ranch mesquite charcoal. The charcoal was created from mesquite trees harvested from the ranch, and the process brings a touch of Texas and helps highlight the bold flavor notes in this new bourbon.

"We are proud of the continued partnership with Brown-Forman and the second offering of this product," said Robert Hodgen, CEO of King Ranch. "Texans have found the whiskey a rare and special treat and have been anxiously anticipating this release after the first batch won Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition."

"Bourbon lovers across Texas will sip the unique blend of flavors that live up to the legacy of our founder, George Garvin Brown, with quality and taste while honoring the impact King Ranch has had on the Lone Star State – and on American ranching," Rift said. "The first batch, released in 2022, sold very quickly so we are honored to bring this bottle back to shelves in 2023."

Tasting Notes:

  • Color: Maple Syrup
  • Aroma: Dried cherries, cranberries, toasted pecans and marshmallows drizzled with sorghum molasses.
  • Flavor: Sweet dark chocolate, tobacco and leather spices mingle with toasted and caramelized oak and nut character.
  • Finish: Long and warming

The suggested retail price for King Ranch is $89.99, and it will only be available in Texas.
