Baker's® Bourbon Begins New Era As A Single Barrel BourbonCLERMONT, Ky., Oct. 10, 2019 Baker's® Bourbon, part of the original Small Batch Bourbon Collection created by Jim Beam 6th Generation Master Distiller Booker Noe, is proud to announce its transition to a single barrel bourbon, exclusively. Maintaining its signature 107 proof and minimum seven-year age statement, Baker's Bourbon will also debut a new bottle design featuring details about the individual barrel including the age, the warehouse in which it was aged and the date it was barreled. The transformation allows Baker's Bourbon to be as uniquely positioned in the Small Batch Bourbon Collection as its namesake Baker Beam is in the Beam family of distillers.

"Baker's Bourbon has always been a bit of a hidden gem of our portfolio," said Fred Noe, Beam's 7th Generation Master Distiller. "With my cousin Baker's blessing, we've decided to give his namesake brand a little bit of the spotlight it deserves. We hope the folks who currently enjoy Baker's enjoy it even more as a single barrel offering, and that some more folks want to add it to their repertoire."

Baker Beam, grand-nephew of Jim Beam and now retired 6th Generation Beam Family Distiller, worked just about every job at the Jim Beam Distillery during his 38 years in the family business, eventually landing in the role of distiller at the Clermont, Ky. plant. In 1992, his cousin Booker Noe was serving as the family's 6th Generation Master Distiller when he created Baker's Bourbon as part of the Small Batch Collection. Booker cited Baker's unique charisma as his inspiration for the bourbon's name and honored his cousin's personal preference for a medium-bodied bourbon with a smooth finish.

"For 27 years, I've been proud to lend my name to Baker's Bourbon, and I'm excited for this new chapter," said Baker Beam. "Baker's has always been enjoyed by people who know a thing or two about their whiskey, and I think our fans are in for a real treat as we let the character of each single barrel come through. Baker's Bourbon is distilled at a lower proof than most whiskies from the James B. Beam Distilling Company, which contributes to its rich flavor. As a single barrel bourbon, the tasting notes will vary from barrel to barrel and bottle to bottle, but some of the defining characteristics include:

  • Age: Minimum 7 years
  • Nose: Fruit, vanilla and caramel
  • Palate: Medium bodied with flavors of oak, toasted nuts and vanilla
  • Finish: Robust, medium long, and warmly rounded

This fall, Baker's Bourbon will also debut its first-ever limited-time offering: a 13-year-old single barrel bourbon that cranks its "good, honest whiskey" – as Baker would say – up a notch. This special bourbon has been patiently aging for a special occasion, and this moment in the brand's history is it. Spending thirteen years in the barrel gives this rare offering noticeably richer notes of oak and toasted nut. In addition to its unique taste, this limited-time offering will stand out in a premium gift box, metallic-inspired label and metal neck charm.

In the analog age of music, artists recorded take after take, experimenting with alternate sounds until a great record emerged. What became known as an ‘alternate take’ would later ignite a creative concept that we’ve embraced and celebrated over the years here at Dogfish Head. First with the creation of our Alternate Takes beer series, and now with our distillery team crafting that same spirit (see what we did there?) with an Alternate Takes Series of their very own.

We first kicked things off with Alternate Takes Volume 1: Whiskey Finished in Rum Casks. Taking inspiration from our off-centered ales, this whiskey starts out as a complex beer brewed with specialty ingredients like applewood smoked, coffee kiln and crystal malts. From there, it’s fermented with our proprietary Doggie yeast – right alongside beers like 60 Minute IPA and SeaQuench Ale – before it’s batch-distilled and aged in new charred American oak barrels, and finally barrels that once held our Barrel Honey Rum. By tapping into our world-class brewery and 25 years of grain experience, this all-grain whiskey is crafted from the very best ingredients, equipment and expertise, including the removal of grain solids from the liquid prior to fermentation. This process, along with our batch-distillation, creates a base whiskey that’s more delicate and nuanced than a typical American style whiskey, resulting in layers of complexity and exceptional smoothness.

“We approach each creative moment at Dogfish with a thirst to push new and out-of-the-ordinary ideas to the furthest limit, as no liquid concoction is out of bounds, and each take on it is part of the artistic journey,” says Dogfish Head founder and brewer Sam Calagione.

The tinkering, experimenting and dreaming continues with our latest iteration, Alternate Takes Volume 2: Whiskey Finished in Palo Santo Marron Barrels. Batch-distilled using a grain bill similar to that of Alternate Takes Volume 1, this whiskey is then aged in American oak before being finished in casks that previously aged Palo Santo Marron. An exotic Paraguayan wood, Palo Santo has been used in South American wine-making communities for decades for its uniquely complex caramel and vanilla notes. The result is a savory sipper that’s balanced by flavors of caramel, smoke, green tea, white chocolate and dark wood.

To best enjoy this dynamic bourbon, Dedman recommends pouring it neat and letting it breathe. Once Batch #9 opens up, it hits you with a complex, yet pleasing taste. Beginning with a union of the sweet fruitiness from white grape and creamy notes of cinnamon roll and vanilla, the liquid crawls back for significant oak, honeysuckle and caramel notes, and ends with a spice finish that stretches across the back of the palate. This release is made with four different distillates from four different mash bills, including a 15-year old, two different lots of 14-year old, a 12-year old, a seven-year old and a six-year old distillate.

Following high acclaim for the first two blended whiskies within the Little Book series – 2017's "The Easy" and 2018's "Noe Simple Task" – the third chapter delivers on Noe's passion for creating one-of-a-kind blends, while also honoring his storied family roots in Kentucky. Little Book Chapter 3: "The Road Home" features a blend of four super-premium Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskies, one from each brand of the original Small Batch Bourbon Collection created by his grandfather Booker Noe in the early 1990s. The result is a meticulously blended whiskey with depth of flavor and legacy.

"'The Road Home' is about going back to your roots - literally and figuratively," Noe said. "With the birth of my son this year I spent a lot more time at home, reflecting often on family and our legacy. I wanted to create something that honored the legacy and values passed down to me by my family. Whenever I drive down the road to the distillery, the same one my granddaddy Booker drove down, I'm reminded of his adventurous spirit, especially of his creation of the Small Batch Collection in a time when no one was drinking premium bourbon. I like to think he passed that same spirit along to me, which ultimately led me to blending."

Noe's inspiration is manifested in the composition of the final blend, which features uncut and unfiltered1 whiskies of the original Small Batch Bourbon Collection, including: 9-year-old Knob Creek® and Basil Hayden's® Bourbons, an 11-year-old Booker's® Bourbon and a 12-year-old Baker's® Bourbon. On the front of the palate, there's a complexity from the vanilla, wood and caramel notes signature to the Knob Creek and Booker's Bourbons, balanced out by the spiciness known to the Basil Hayden's Bourbon. The 12-year-old Baker's contributes a lingering, warm and sweet finish, layered with tones of oak.

(Sept. 4, 2019) –– Oregon-based craft distillery 503 Distilling, a pioneer of ready to drink canned craft cocktails, has signed on with Hayden Beverage, one of Idaho’s largest beer, wine and craft cocktail distributors, for distribution throughout the Gem State. This marks the first distribution arrangement outside of Oregon for the artisan distillery.
503 Distilling is distributing its three most popular canned craft cocktails: The Wicked Mule, The Blood Orange Greyhound, and La Vida Mocha. The Wicked Mule is made by infusing 503 Distilling’s vodka with fresh lime and ginger, then blending it with a homemade ginger syrup and adding carbonation. La Vida Mocha is 503 Distilling’s first rum-based canned cocktail and combines cold brew coffee from Riff Cold Brew Coffee (Bend, Ore.) with Mexican chocolate from Holy Kakow (Portland, Ore.) and rum sourced from the Caribbean to create a canned cocktail that’s ready to serve in a 12oz. can. Kavalan Announces First New Launch of 2019 with 'Concertmaster Sherry Finish'TAIPEI, Sept. 2, 2019 - Kavalan distillery's first global release of 2019 has today hit the bars and shelves in Taiwan, with a global roll-out to follow.

The Kavalan Concertmaster Sherry Finish at 40% ABV is the second whisky in the Concertmaster range, double matured in Spain's finest Sherry casks after ageing in the distillery's special reserve of refill casks.

Kavalan CEO Mr Lee described the whisky as highly elegant, rich and silky smooth, with notes of dark dry fruits and savoury nuttiness.

He said the newly opened Kavalan Whisky Bar in Taipei had created a special cocktail for the launch of the Concertmaster Sherry Finish.

"It's based on the iconic Bond Vesper Martini, except that our head bartender Shane Lin has replaced the vodka in the recipe with Concertmaster Sherry Finish. This adds fruitiness and gives it more depth and body," Mr Lee said. 

Lin was inspired by the new whisky's clean, pure and well-rounded profile. The cocktail he has created is sharp and refreshing. Its name, "Long Story Short" refers to the cocktail's effectiveness. Just what you'd expect of a 007-influenced drink.

Master Blender Ian Chang said Concertmaster Sherry Finish underwent a two-part ageing process. The first round of long maturation in the distillery's high-quality American oak refill casks allows the purity and fruitiness of Kavalan's distillery spirit to develop, while lending the whisky its delicate aromas.

The second part involves finishing in Sherry-seasoned American oak casks, which gives the whisky its complexity of layers and further brings out the depth of flavours made possible in Taiwan's unique subtropical climate.

"Just like our first Concertmaster, the finishing in Sherry casks mellows out the flavours, adds depth and multiple layers, and locks in an incredible softness to the whisky," Mr Chang said.

The first Concertmaster in the range has a Portuguese ruby port cask finish. The "concertmaster" is an orchestra's lead violinist and revered as the most highly skilled player on stage. Kavalan's Concertmaster Series expertly blends and tunes the aromas and flavours in its whisky to create indefinable depth and balance.

Colour: Pale apricot

Nose: Begins with a soft bouquet of sweet vanilla and toffee accompanied in the background by subtle, silky chocolate and layers of crème brûlée, made satisfyingly complex with rich, ripe dark fruits and walnut and almond nuttiness continuing onto the tongue.

Palate: Round, thick mouthfeel dominated by a dense burst of this series' signature taste - seductively luscious tropical fruits - elegantly balanced and lingering long on the finish.

First-Ever Whiskey Distillery in U.S. History to Honor an African-American Announces Grand OpeningSHELBYVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 27, 2019 - Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, the super-premium whiskey from Tennessee and the fastest-growing independent American whiskey brand in U.S. history, has announced that Phase One of its highly anticipated Nearest Green Distillery will open on September 14, 2019 in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Named after the first known African-American master distiller, and the whiskey brand's namesake, Nearest Green, the new distillery is the first in the United States to commemorate an African-American whiskey maker, exemplifying the important contributions he made to whiskey history.

Travelers visiting the Nearest Green Distillery during its Phase One opening can expect to see the first of what is to be built on the 270-acre property, with buildings and experiences continuing to open over the next few years. Once fully open with all phases built out, the Nearest Green Distillery will not only serve as a place where Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey is distilled, aged and bottled, but will pay homage to Nearest and the many other innovators and innovations from Tennessee. The distillery has turned the former site of the famous Sand Creek Farms, a Tennessee Walking Horse farm and event center, into a full-blown destination for whiskey enthusiasts, Walking Horse lovers and families.

Phase One of the Nearest Green Distillery will include:

  • A Tennessee Walking Horse experience where visitors will not only learn the history of the Walking Horse, but where more than 50 championship walking horses, and horses they sire, will continue to reside at the property.
  • The Welcome House, complete with a custom-made horseshoe bar where visitors will learn about and sample Uncle Nearest's award-winning whiskeys. It will be the only place in the world with tastings of all four expressions: Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Whiskey, Uncle Nearest 1884 Premium Small Batch Whiskey, Uncle Nearest 1820 Premium Single Barrel Whiskey and Nathan Green 1870 Premium Single Barrel Whiskey, an expression previously sold only in the U.K. A second-story Awards Mezzanine was built out to showcase some of the more than 50 awards the brand has already won.
  • A Copper Skies Experience where guests can sit in rocking chairs under a covered patio to see the most beautiful sunset in Tennessee. Visitors can sip on Uncle Nearest cocktails from Toppy's, a connecting bar named after the CEO's own horse, while watching the colors of the sunset.
  • A Full Retail Store, where visitors can purchase custom apparel, rare bottles of Uncle Nearest, and just about anything else Uncle Nearest makes.
  • The Bottling House open to the public, allowing visitors to take part in labeling the whiskey sold in the retail store. All four Uncle Nearest offerings will be bottled here.
  • A Hard Hat Tour, offered with every premium tasting. This experience walks visitors through the spaces under construction that will open in 2020, such as the single barrel warehouse and tasting room, as well as the Heritage Hall, an impressive collection of all things invented in Tennessee such as NASCAR, miniature golf, Moon Pies and Mountain Dew, with a special focus on Tennessee Whiskey, Walking Horses and country music.

"When I went to write the invitations for the distillery opening, tears began to stream down my face," said Fawn Weaver, co-founder and CEO of Uncle Nearest. "I'm not a person who cries often, but something about this history just chokes me up. When I wrote the opening line, 'If Nearest Green could have owned his own distillery, would he have?' I could only think of this incredible master distiller that likely never had the chance. And posthumously, we are working to ensure his name is cemented in the hearts and minds of people around the world for generations to come. The Nearest Green Distillery is his legacy and that of his descendants. Being able to bring that to life, quite frankly, still blows my mind."

To build out the Nearest Green Distillery, Weaver has brought together a team of the most reputable designers and builders in the business. The overall design and visitor experience for the Nearest Green Distillery is being overseen by Peggy Noe Stevens & Associates. Peggy Noe Stevens is the first female master bourbon taster, founder of the internationally-acclaimed Bourbon Women, co-founder of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, and the woman behind some of the top distillery visitor experiences in the country. Thom Meek of GHP Environmental + Architecture and former Tennessee Walking Horse champion was brought on in 2017 to help bring this distillery vision to life and continues to serve as the architect on the project. Haynes Service Company is building out the corporate offices, Welcome House, single barrel warehouse and tasting rooms, while Lee Adcock Construction has taken lead on building the distillery, bottling house and rick houses.

Before Phase One of the Nearest Green Distillery officially opens to the public, Uncle Nearest and whiskey enthusiasts from around the country are invited for a special preview grand opening event on Thursday, September 5.

Coppercraft Distillery and Detroit Lions Announce Multi-Year Sponsorship Agreement

HOLLAND, Mich., Aug. 23, 2019 Coppercraft Distillery and the Detroit Lions today announced a multi-year sponsorship agreement that will feature the Holland, Michigan-based distillery's namesake and spirits at six bar locations within Ford Field, brand signage throughout the stadium and designation as an "Official Partner of the Detroit Lions."

Fans will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide range of Coppercraft products at Ford Field this season, including its award-winning premium handcrafted spirits and canned cocktails. All six Coppercraft bar locations will be operational during each of the eight regular season home games in 2019 and the pre-season contest on Friday, August 23.

The partnership, spanning more than three National Football League (NFL) seasons, extends through March 2022.

Founded in Holland, Michigan in 2012, Coppercraft was one of the first licensed distillers in the state. The company has expanded significantly and more than doubled their number of product cases sold within the past year. In 2018, Coppercraft hired its first full-time sales representative in the Detroit metropolitan region, and its products are now available at nearly 900 retail locations across Michigan.
