Jack Daniel's Celebrates the Launch of Tennessee Apple with 'Raising Hell, Raising Spirits' Haunted Event Hosted by GRAMMY-nominated Popstar Kesha

Jack Daniel's Celebrates the Launch of Tennessee Apple with 'Raising Hell, Raising Spirits' Haunted Event Hosted by GRAMMY-nominated Popstar KeshaWho: Jack Daniel's Tennessee Apple

What: To welcome the newest member of the Jack Daniel's family, Tennessee Apple, the brand created a one-of-a-kind haunted event 'Raising Hell, Raising Spirits' hosted by GRAMMY-nominated popstar Kesha at the famous Houdini Estate in Hollywood. The evening was a psychedelic and eccentric celebration of Jack Apple's bold flavor just in time for Halloween.

Stilt walkers greeted guests as they entered and cocktails, including the Jack Apple Spritz, Jack Apple Mule, and Jack Apple Fizz, flowed from the mad scientist themed bar.

Attendees also previewed new music from Kesha's upcoming album "High Road" (out January 10th on Kemosabe/RCA Records), including brand new songs "My Own Dance" and the album's title track "High Road", as well as her recently released single "Raising Hell (ft. Big Freedia)", at the Jack Apple haunted orchard listening trees.

The event also featured a Halo Auragraphic photo booth tent, a haunted orchard themed portrait studio, magicians, and music from DJ Aaron Castle, who was joined by Kesha to premiere a brand new song for guests.

Michter's to Offer 2019 Release of 20 Year Bourbon in November

Michter's to Offer 2019 Release of 20 Year Bourbon in NovemberLOUISVILLE, Ky., Oct. 29, 2019- Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee and Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson have approved a release of Michter's 20 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon. This 2019 bottling will start shipping from Michter's Shively Distillery to distributors and importers in early November.

"It's an elegant bourbon with lots of depth and cascading flavors," said Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. Older barrels in Michter's rickhouses receive extra attention from the production team. "We have a protocol whereby our Master Distiller Dan McKee and I taste our most mature lots of whiskey more frequently to determine peak quality," stated Wilson.

Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2020 recently named the 2018 release of Michter's 20 Year Bourbon as the winner of its 16-20 year old bourbon category. "By paying such careful attention to maturation, we wind up with 20 year plus barrels that can be really special and complex without being overly woody," added McKee.

Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter's highly acclaimed portfolio includes bourbon, rye, and American whiskey.

The proof of this 2019 release is 114.2, and the suggested U.S. retail price for a 750ml bottle is $700. For more information, please visit www.michters.com, and follow us on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Each year, as part of the ANGEL'S ENVY Cask Strength program, generations of the Henderson family work together to select a handful of truly remarkable barrels of ANGEL'S ENVY Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels from their rickhouse that are put through a lengthy finishing process in Portuguese port wine casks. The Henderson family started the ANGEL'S ENVY Cask Strength program in 2012 when Wes Henderson, his son Kyle, and Wes' father, the late Lincoln Henderson, first selected the exceptional barrels that are put through the extended aging process. That inaugural expression was declared the "best spirit in the world" by journalist, critic and spirits consultant F. Paul Pacult in his 2013 Spirit Journal.

"I have spent countless hours parsing the alchemy for a new, limited-edition whisky with Lagavulin Distillery Manager Colin Gordon. Together, we have concocted a most edifying nectar – Lagavulin Offerman Edition Aged 11 Years," says Offerman. "'Carrying the signature Lagavulin Islay Single Malt peatiness with sweet berry and orchard fruit notes, this Scotch Whisky is for those who adore Lagavulin's patented smoky flavor and the patience required to masterfully distill a Single Malt' is what they told me to say, but I would rather just tell you that I am giggling with delight at the notion of people enjoying this limited-edition Scotch."

To illustrate the centuries of patience and hard work required to distill this new, limited edition 11 Year Old whisky, Offerman and Lagavulin are releasing the next iteration of the My Tales of Whisky content series. The videos reveal Offerman's devotion to the whisky-making process, following his long and arduous journey through time as he plays a key role in the evolution of Scotch Whisky. Fashion, art, mixology, technology and design converged in the space, bringing people together for an immersive and innovative 3D printed experience. With the jaw-dropping Bulleit 3D printed bar as the backdrop, the sneakers were on display for the first time for attendees to look, touch and feel. Guests also tasted some of the world's first 3D printed cocktails, while enjoying music from DJ Blake Ward.

Bulleit created the first-of-their-kind, 3D printed limited-edition sneakers in collaboration with industrial designers and manufacturers at cutting-edge firm Tangible Creative and nationally recognized, Dallas-based artist Kyle Steed. The sneakers took more than 200 hours to develop and the sneaker design was inspired by Kyle Steed's personal interpretation of what it means to be on the Frontier of culture, depicting a variety of human elements that come together to make-up the community that Steed reminds us is so important to give meaning to innovation.

"The sneaker and mural designs represent the community of artists, designers and leaders in tech and innovation who come together to push the boundaries of the cultural frontier," said artist partner Steed. "When we talk about innovation, it's just as much about human connection as it is technology. Where we are many parts ourselves as individuals, only by coming together as a community of creators and innovators can we make something bigger."

Select pairs of the Bulleit 3D Printed Sneakers will be available to purchase for those 21 and older for a retail price of $250 USD starting October 25 at 10am ET via top online sneaker retailer Sneaker Politics.

Prior to Dallas, the Bulleit 3D Printed Frontier Experience made stops in: Oakland, CA at the city's historic Sixteenth Street Station; Austin, TX; and, most recently, New York City during the 18th annual Tribeca Film Festival.  The 3D sneaker launch event at the historic Ervay Theater in the Cedars neighborhood of Dallas-Fort Worth marked the fourth stop on a nationwide tour of the 3D Printed Frontier Experience.

"As the Bulleit 3D Printed Frontier Experience moves across the country, we are seeking new collaborators and pioneers on the frontier of 3D printing who can enhance everything around our 3D printed bar experience," said Sophie Kelly, Sr. Vice President of Whiskey at Diageo North America. "It's important to us to collaborate closely with people from the local communities we visit, and Kyle Steed and Tangible Creative are both pushing the boundaries of their craft in fresh and exciting ways. With the launch of our new limited-edition 3D Printed Sneakers in Dallas, together we are reimagining the bar experience in 3D – which includes where people drink, what people drink, what people are wear wearing, and what people are talking about."

The Bulleit 3D printed bar was created in collaboration with architecture and design practice FAR frohn&rojas and the 3D fabrication team at Machine Histories. The 3D printed cocktails were created in partnership with robotics pioneer from Print A Drink Benjamin Greimel.

Whether creating some of the world's first 3D printed cocktails, the world's largest tattoo billboard or giving new life to the old craft of neon signs, all of the Bulleit Frontier Works projects highlight a diverse and wide array of interesting people who are creating previously unimaginable experiences. Bulleit invites those 21+ to join the brand on the modern cultural frontier and reminds those who do join the brand to please drink responsibly.

Johnnie Walker Master Whisky Maker Receives Honour for Services to Scotch

imageLONDON, Oct. 25, 2019  Johnnie Walker Master Blender, Dr Jim Beveridge, was awarded an OBE by Her Majesty The Queen today for his outstanding service to the Scotch whisky industry.

Recognising a remarkable career spanning almost four decades with the world's leading distilling company Diageo, Dr Beveridge was presented with his OBE medal by Her Majesty during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle.

During his career Dr Beveridge has established himself as one of the most highly respected figures in the industry, renowned for his skill and dedication to quality, as well as his considered and unassuming manner.

The accolade comes as Johnnie Walker, the world's most popular Scotch whisky, prepares to celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2020. Dr Beveridge is only the sixth person in two centuries of the company's history to have held the position of Master Blender, the first being founder John Walker himself.

As part of the celebrations to mark his 40th year with Johnnie Walker, Dr Beveridge has been asked to work with his team on a unique 40 year old whisky using some of the rarest Scotch in the Johnnie Walker reserves.

Based at Diageo's blending rooms in Menstrie, Clackmannanshire, Dr Beveridge leads a team of 12 blenders responsible for the quality and consistency of all the company's Scotch whisky brands. He also works closely with distillers, coopers, coppersmiths and all the craftspeople involved in producing the finest Scotch whisky.

He has been the recipient of several industry accolades, including being inducted into the World Whisky Hall of Fame in 2015, and in 2016 he was named Master Blender of the Year by the International Whisky Competition for the second consecutive year, a first in the history of the competition.

Commenting on the receiving the award Dr Beveridge dedicated it to his colleagues across the Scotch whisky industry. He said: "It was a wonderful experience to receive this award from Her Majesty the Queen and it is an honour that I am delighted to receive on behalf of all the people I have worked with in Scotch whisky over the past four decades.

"Scotch truly is a team effort at every step from grain to glass and it is a privilege to work in such a special industry. I dedicate this award to all the women and men in our distilleries, coppersmiths, cooperage, warehouses and bottling halls across Scotland who are all responsible for making Johnnie Walker."

Congratulating Dr Beveridge on receiving his award, Diageo Chief Executive Ivan Menezes, said: "This is a very special day for Jim and his family and I am delighted to congratulate them on behalf of everyone at Diageo.

"Jim is renowned in the Scotch industry for his dedication to the craft of whisky-making and for the incredible whiskies he creates for Johnnie Walker, but he is also known as an exceptional colleague and friend to the people he works with. This is worthy recognition of an extraordinary career spanning four decades."

Johnnie Walker Global Brand Director John Williams added his tribute: "Everyone in the Johnnie Walker family is delighted to see Jim receive this recognition for the remarkable contribution he's made to Johnnie Walker and to Scotch whisky.

"Jim has not just been the guardian of almost two centuries of Johnnie Walker heritage, he has also been a restless pioneer, always learning and always seeking new frontiers of flavour in Scotch whisky."

Johnnie Walker is the number one selling Scotch whisky in the world with an average of seven bottles being exported from Scotland every second, making it the country's leading export product. The brand uses the best Scotch whiskies from Diageo's unrivalled inventory of 28 malt distilleries and more than 10 million casks maturing in Scotland.

Johnnie Walker is at the heart of a £150 million investment programme in Scotch whisky tourism by Diageo, including creating a global flagship visitor attraction in Edinburgh and transforming the company's 12 distillery visitor experiences around Scotland.

Warm Up with Whiskey from Rogue Spirits this Winter

Warm Up with Whiskey from Rogue Spirits this WinterNewport, Ore. (October 24, 2019)—‘Tis the season for whiskey sipping and Rogue Ales & Spirits offers four unique, American-made whiskeys that will warm you up on the coldest days: Dead Guy Whiskey, Oregon Single Malt Whiskey, Oregon Rye Malt Whiskey and Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey.

“Over the past 16 years, we have been fine-tuning the way we make our spirits and that is reflected in the quality of both the product and the packaging,” says Rogue Director of Spirits Dewey Weddington. “Rogue whiskeys are all hand crafted, from distillation to bottling, under one roof at our Newport, Oregon headquarters. Our home in the Pacific Northwest, provides a climate that is ideal for crafting malted whiskey.”
Rogue’s award-winning whiskeys are perfect for winter sipping and make great holiday gifts.
Dead Guy Whiskey is made from the same malts as Rogue’s notorious Dead Guy Ale, malted two row barley, munich and crystal malts, to create a unique whiskey wash that offers an intriguing range of flavors. Aged more than two years, the finished whiskey has dark cocoa, coffee and caramel notes that are reminiscent of Dead Guy Ale. This whiskey is not only great to sip, but also holds up in a spirit-forward cocktail. In 2018, Dead Guy was named ‘Best Oregon Whiskey’ at the International Whisky Competition.
Rogue Oregon Single Malt is a whiskey that provides a clear sense of Rogue’s home along the Yaquina Bay with soft malt notes, subtle hints of smoke and briny sea air. Crafted from malted Two Row Barley that is 10% smoked with apple and alder, the wash is brewed at the Rogue brewery just yards from the distillery. After distillation, it is aged for a minimum of five years in char 3 new American Oak barrels. Exemplifying the American single malt category, Rogue Spirits Oregon Single Malt recently won a gold medal at the 2018 World Spirits Competition.
Rogue Oregon Rye Malt undergoes a malting process that softens the spice notes typical of rye whiskeys and makes for a more approachable whiskey that builds in flavor. The barley in the mash bill (52% rye, 48% barley) further rounds out the taste and mouthfeel creating an easy sipping experience. Complex nuttiness is softened by light caramel and a hint of citrus leading to cinnamon, nutmeg and black pepper. This rye has received multiple awards, including the Double Gold medal in the 2018 World Spirits Competition.
Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey is the culmination of all things ‘Do It Yourself’ from Rogue. This limited-edition whiskey is distilled at Rogue's distillery, then aged in barrels built by hand at Rogue's cooperage, Rolling Thunder Barrel Works. These barrels had already aged an Imperial Stout brewed by Rogue's brewery. The final product is a 3-year aged American Single Malt -- aged one year in new Oregon Oak barrels and two years in stout saturated Oregon Oak barrels. Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey combines the spice and citrus tones of Oregon Oak, the flavor of the original whiskey and the deep, dark tones from the Stout. It is big, bold and a true one-of-a-kind whiskey that bridges the gap between Single Malt and Bourbon.  Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey won Double Gold and Best Craft Distiller Whiskey at the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Prohibition Centennial 10/28: America's biggest bootlegger, true crime, 1920s, bourbon

Prohibition Centennial 10/28: America's biggest bootlegger, true crime, 1920s, bourbonThe Bourbon King: The Life and Crimes of George Remus, Prohibition's Evil Genius (Diversion Books) by Bob Batchelor has been hailed by critics as "definitive" and a "rip-roaring good time for any American history or true-crime fan."

100th Anniversary of Volstead Act October 28; Centennial of Law that Launched Prohibition and the Roaring Twenties, Rampant Lawlessness, Turned Regular People into Criminals

What: The Volstead Act, enacted into law on October 28, 1919, defined the parameters of the Eighteenth Amendment. By passing the Volstead Act, Congress formally prohibited intoxicating beverages; regulated the sale, manufacture, or transport of liquor; but still ensured that alcohol could still be used for scientific, research, industrial, and religious practices.

When: Congress voted to overrule President Woodrow Wilson’s veto, passing the Volstead Act on October 28, 1919. Legal enforcement of Prohibition began on January 17, 1920.

Why: Chaos reigned in the early twentieth century. In America, the tumultuous era included millions of immigrants streaming into the nation, and then a protracted war that seemed apocalyptic. The backlash against the disarray sent some forces searching for normality. Liquor was an easy target. Supporters of dry law turned the consumption of alcohol into an indicator of widespread moral rot.

Bob Batchelor, author of The Bourbon King: The Life and Crimes of George Remus, Prohibition’s Evil Genius (Diversion Books) is available for commentary and discussion of Prohibition and the Roaring Twenties. The Bourbon King is the epic tale of “Bootleg King” George Remus, who from his Gatsby-like mansion in Cincinnati, created the largest illegal liquor ring in American history. In today’s money, Remus built a bourbon empire of some $5 to $7 billion in just two and a half years.

People all over the world know the name “Al Capone,” but without George Remus and his pipeline of Kentucky bourbon, there may never have been a Capone. Although largely forgotten today, Remus was one of the most famous men in American in the 1920s, including the shocking murder of his wife Imogene and subsequent high-stakes trial that set off a national sensation.

Quotes:

George Remus: “My personal opinion had always been that the Volstead Act was an unreasonable, sumptuary law, and that it never could be enforced.”

George Remus: “I knew it [the Volstead Act] was as fragile as tissue paper.”

F. Scott Fitzgerald: “America was going on the grandest, gaudiest spree in history…The whole golden boom was in the air—its splendid generosities, its outrageous corruptions and the tortuous death struggle of the old America in prohibition.” From the essay “Early Success” (1937)

Bob Batchelor: “Prohibition turned ordinary citizens into criminals. Media attention turned some criminals into Jazz Age icons. At the top of the heap stood those few, like George Remus, who took advantage of the new illegal booze marketplace to gain untold power and riches.”

Bob Batchelor: “During Prohibition, ‘bathtub gin’ often contained substances that were undrinkable at best and deadly at worst. A band of rumrunners selling ‘Canadian’ whiskey were actually peddling toilet bowl cleaner. Tests on booze obtained in one raid revealed that the liquor contained a large volume of poison.”

Bob Batchelor: “Remus may have been singularly violent and dangerous, but his utter disregard for Prohibition put him in accord with how much of American society felt about the dry laws. Within the government, the lack of resolve for enforcing Prohibition started at the top with President Warren G. Harding and his corrupt administration.”

About The Bourbon King

“Bob Batchelor’s The Bourbon King: The Life and Crimes of George Remus, Prohibition’s Evil Genius might as well be the outline of a Netflix or HBO series.”

With themes of redemption, female empowerment, self-help, and reconnecting with the outdoors grounding each episode, this series will further propel the authentic story of these inspiring individuals.

McConaughey was initially drawn to the Wild Turkey brand through his innate connection to Jimmy and Eddie Russell, the father and son Master Distiller team for the iconic bourbon brand, due to their conviction, unapologetic commitment to their craft, and history of doing things the right way, with over 100 years of combined experience. In these new series, McConaughey explores untapped subculture, shining a light on people who exhibit unwavering conviction and are doing things the right way—no matter how challenging. The trailblazers featured in each series span from entrepreneurs and a world champion surfer to culinary sensations and an award-winning journalist.

"We are exploring conviction. Why some never compromise to be the best and why some choose their own path where none have gone before," said McConaughey. "Talk Turkey is connecting with groundbreakers and way-makers who, like the Russell family of distillers, have an uncompromising conviction to do what they do."

Throughout each series, audiences will get to know the following pioneers:

  • Unyoked is a remarkable tiny house-style, travel startup founded by Australian twin brothers, Cam and Chris, who are determined to provide respite and change the pace of life. The two explore and carve out meaningful, reflective spaces in nature through state-of-the-art cabins that make the wilderness accessible.

Together, the two aim to serve more than 5-star meals - inspiring their community to refocus their energy away from detrimental activities towards fulfilling, meaningful practices.
  • Maya Gabeira, known as the "Super Woman of Surfing," holds the female world record for biggest wave ever surfed (2018), a feat she accomplished after a near-death experience in 2013 at a big-wave surfing competition that rendered her immobile. In collaboration with Master Distiller Eddie Russell, McConaughey co-created his own bourbon, Wild Turkey Longbranch. He also serves as the Minister of Culture/M.O.C for the upcoming University of Texas sports arena.

About Wild Turkey
The distillery for Wild Turkey Bourbon is located in Kentucky, situated on a deep limestone shelf on the Kentucky River. The shelf acts as a natural filter and provides the distillery with crystal clear water, vital to making such a high-quality product. Wild Turkey features the legendary father and son Master Distilling team of Jimmy and Eddie Russell, who have nearly 103 years of collective experience working at the Wild Turkey distillery.
The famous Wild Turkey brand name first came about back in 1940 when distillery executive Thomas McCarthey took a few warehouse samples on a Wild Turkey hunting trip with a group of friends. The following year, his friends asked him for "some of that Wild Turkey whiskey" and the brand was born.
Wild Turkey is distilled and put into new oak barrels at a much lower ABV than most bourbons. This results in a much richer flavor, as less is cooked out during the production process. Ageing in the highest quality new American oak barrels with the heaviest char available (the Number 4 "alligator" char), imparts a smooth flavor and deep amber color to the whiskey.

The barrels are filled at the distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. Website: wildturkey.com.

Baker's® Bourbon Begins New Era As A Single Barrel Bourbon

Baker's® Bourbon Begins New Era As A Single Barrel BourbonCLERMONT, Ky., Oct. 10, 2019 Baker's® Bourbon, part of the original Small Batch Bourbon Collection created by Jim Beam 6th Generation Master Distiller Booker Noe, is proud to announce its transition to a single barrel bourbon, exclusively. Maintaining its signature 107 proof and minimum seven-year age statement, Baker's Bourbon will also debut a new bottle design featuring details about the individual barrel including the age, the warehouse in which it was aged and the date it was barreled. The transformation allows Baker's Bourbon to be as uniquely positioned in the Small Batch Bourbon Collection as its namesake Baker Beam is in the Beam family of distillers.

"Baker's Bourbon has always been a bit of a hidden gem of our portfolio," said Fred Noe, Beam's 7th Generation Master Distiller. "With my cousin Baker's blessing, we've decided to give his namesake brand a little bit of the spotlight it deserves. We hope the folks who currently enjoy Baker's enjoy it even more as a single barrel offering, and that some more folks want to add it to their repertoire."

Baker Beam, grand-nephew of Jim Beam and now retired 6th Generation Beam Family Distiller, worked just about every job at the Jim Beam Distillery during his 38 years in the family business, eventually landing in the role of distiller at the Clermont, Ky. plant. In 1992, his cousin Booker Noe was serving as the family's 6th Generation Master Distiller when he created Baker's Bourbon as part of the Small Batch Collection. Booker cited Baker's unique charisma as his inspiration for the bourbon's name and honored his cousin's personal preference for a medium-bodied bourbon with a smooth finish.

"For 27 years, I've been proud to lend my name to Baker's Bourbon, and I'm excited for this new chapter," said Baker Beam. "Baker's has always been enjoyed by people who know a thing or two about their whiskey, and I think our fans are in for a real treat as we let the character of each single barrel come through. Let's get the barrel rolling!"

Baker's Bourbon is distilled at a lower proof than most whiskies from the James B. Beam Distilling Company, which contributes to its rich flavor. As a single barrel bourbon, the tasting notes will vary from barrel to barrel and bottle to bottle, but some of the defining characteristics include:

  • Proof: 107
  • Age: Minimum 7 years
  • Nose: Fruit, vanilla and caramel
  • Palate: Medium bodied with flavors of oak, toasted nuts and vanilla
  • Finish: Robust, medium long, and warmly rounded
  • Sipping Suggestions: Baker's Bourbon is best enjoyed neat, over ice or with a few drops of water.

This fall, Baker's Bourbon will also debut its first-ever limited-time offering: a 13-year-old single barrel bourbon that cranks its "good, honest whiskey" – as Baker would say – up a notch. This special bourbon has been patiently aging for a special occasion, and this moment in the brand's history is it. Spending thirteen years in the barrel gives this rare offering noticeably richer notes of oak and toasted nut. In addition to its unique taste, this limited-time offering will stand out in a premium gift box, metallic-inspired label and metal neck charm.

Baker's Single Barrel Bourbon is now available nationwide with a Suggested Retail Price of $59.99 for a 750 mL bottle. Baker's® 13-Year-Old Single Barrel Bourbon is also available nationwide in extremely limited quantities with a Suggested Retail Price of $99.99 for a 750 mL bottle.

About Baker's® Bourbon
Baker's Bourbon is a Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey bottled at 107 proof and aged a minimum of seven years. Created in 1992 by Sixth Generation Beam Master Distiller Booker Noe as part of the original Small Batch Bourbon Collection, Baker's Bourbon is named after Baker Beam – grand-nephew of Jim Beam and a tenured distiller who worked at the Jim Beam Distillery for 38 years. Originally created as a small batch bourbon, Baker's Bourbon is reemerging as a single barrel product in 2019 to celebrate the individual characteristics inside each and every Baker's Bourbon barrel, while delivering the smooth, medium-bodied bourbon fans enjoy.

Dogfish Head Alternate Takes … let's play it again.

Dogfish Head Alternate Takes ... let's play it again.Mic check, mic check … one, two, one, two. In the analog age of music, artists recorded take after take, experimenting with alternate sounds until a great record emerged. What became known as an ‘alternate take’ would later ignite a creative concept that we’ve embraced and celebrated over the years here at Dogfish Head. First with the creation of our Alternate Takes beer series, and now with our distillery team crafting that same spirit (see what we did there?) with an Alternate Takes Series of their very own.

We first kicked things off with Alternate Takes Volume 1: Whiskey Finished in Rum Casks. Taking inspiration from our off-centered ales, this whiskey starts out as a complex beer brewed with specialty ingredients like applewood smoked, coffee kiln and crystal malts. From there, it’s fermented with our proprietary Doggie yeast – right alongside beers like 60 Minute IPA and SeaQuench Ale – before it’s batch-distilled and aged in new charred American oak barrels, and finally barrels that once held our Barrel Honey Rum. By tapping into our world-class brewery and 25 years of grain experience, this all-grain whiskey is crafted from the very best ingredients, equipment and expertise, including the removal of grain solids from the liquid prior to fermentation. This process, along with our batch-distillation, creates a base whiskey that’s more delicate and nuanced than a typical American style whiskey, resulting in layers of complexity and exceptional smoothness.

“We approach each creative moment at Dogfish with a thirst to push new and out-of-the-ordinary ideas to the furthest limit, as no liquid concoction is out of bounds, and each take on it is part of the artistic journey,” says Dogfish Head founder and brewer Sam Calagione.

The tinkering, experimenting and dreaming continues with our latest iteration, Alternate Takes Volume 2: Whiskey Finished in Palo Santo Marron Barrels. Batch-distilled using a grain bill similar to that of Alternate Takes Volume 1, this whiskey is then aged in American oak before being finished in casks that previously aged Palo Santo Marron. An exotic Paraguayan wood, Palo Santo has been used in South American wine-making communities for decades for its uniquely complex caramel and vanilla notes. The result is a savory sipper that’s balanced by flavors of caramel, smoke, green tea, white chocolate and dark wood.

Our Alternate Takes series is an ode to the mad chemistry of R&D distilling, and we’re excited to see where it takes us next. You can find Alternate Takes Volume 1 and Volume 2 throughout Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington D.C. (with limited availability). Check out the Fish Finder to help you track some down in your neck of the woods!
