Sagamore Spirit President Brian Treacy hosted Jack for an immersive introduction to Maryland's rich rye-making history and how Sagamore Spirit is helping usher in the state's second era of whiskey. They shared a taste of 115-proof cask strength whiskey straight from the barrel, bonded over Sagamore Spirit's famous Black-Eyed Rye cocktail, and discussed how the whiskey maker is on a mission to put Maryland back on the map when it comes to great tasting spirits.

There, they will be greeted by a hologram of The Glenlivet's Master Distiller, Alan Winchester, who will challenge them to decode the taste of the liquid by selecting four aromas for the nose and four flavors for the palate from several possible combinations.

After decoding the flavors of the new whisky, participants will be given a score which they can post on their social channels to see how they rank against their peers. The official tasting notes will be revealed at the end of the year to give consumers the time to discover and enjoy the liquid themselves.

TKavalan Enters WWA Whisky "Hall of Fame" in Chinese FirstAIPEI, Taiwan, March 26, 2018  King Car Group Chairman Mr Tien Tsai Lee and group CEO Mr Yu-Ting Lee, are a Chinese first and first father and son to be inducted into the World Whiskies Awards (WWA) "Hall of Fame."

According to the WWA, the award recognises the Lees' standing as two of the "whisky greats" and "the most iconic individuals in the industry."

Damian Riley Smith, WWA CEO called Kavalan's founders the "father and son team who have transformed the global whisky industry, who have shifted its frontiers through entrepreneur passion and innovation."

He described what they had done as "quite truly magnificent in creating a new category, and putting Taiwan on the whisky map, where there was no whisky distilling history ever."

King Car Kavalan CEO Mr YT Lee said "Thank WWA, Kavalan team, the late Dr Jim Swan to make Kavalan's dream come true."

The Hall of Fame is a permanent tribute honouring those individuals who have made a lasting contribution to the world of whisky and, was inspired by the top 100 greatest whisky figures in history who appeared in the 100th edition of Whisky Magazine.

The Kavalan Solist Port won 2018 WWA Single Cask Single Malt Whisky-Best Taiwanese Whisky. WWA has previously given Kavalan two of its biggest awards for the Solist Amontillado Sherry Single Cask Strength which was named the "World's Best Single Cask Single Malt Whisky" in 2016 and its Solist Vinho Barrique, which won the 2015 "World's Best Single Malt Whisky."

Two Kentucky Icons Link Up To Create The Jim Beam® Natural Water Sanctuary Alliance At Bernheim Arboretum & Research ForestCLERMONT, ., March 22, 2018  Two Kentucky icons are embarking on an alliance to preserve and protect the pristine limestone water in the Clermont area.

Jim Beam, the world's No. 1 selling bourbon whiskey, and Bernheim Arboretum & Research Forest, a 15,625 acre privately held forest just south of Louisville, have joined forces to develop a natural water sanctuary on Bernheim grounds immediately adjacent to the Jim Beam distillery.

Beginning as a one-year agreement, the Natural Water Sanctuary Alliance will protect water quality, restore wildlife habitats, and reintroduce native plants and trees. This group is also working toward a long-term agreement to enhance environmental education, improve watershed protection planning, and secure quality water.

"Great bourbon starts with great water," said Freddie Noe, eighth generation Beam Distiller. "In fact, the water in Clermont is one of the main reasons my family chose to settle here back in 1795. Jim Beam bourbon gets its distinct and wonderful taste, in part, from the local water, which is filtered naturally through limestone. We're proud to team up with our neighbors at Bernheim to preserve this vital natural resource."

The Jim Beam Natural Water Sanctuary Alliance at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest will concentrate on conservation activities across Bernheim, particularly within the Long-Lick and Wilson Creek watersheds. These areas feature large forest expanses, wetlands and the head waters of three creeks and several small lakes that support wildlife, the surrounding communities, and the production of Jim Beam Bourbon.

Through this alliance, Jim Beam will also support Bernheim's work to protect the federally endangered Indiana Bat, and co-host an annual landowners' workshop to educate the community and promote best practices in water conservation and forest stewardship.

"The importance of clean water cannot be overstated. It's essential for wildlife. It's essential for human life and it's essential to our economy," said Mark Wourms, Bernheim's Executive Director. "We are grateful to have a corporate partner like Jim Beam that values protecting this vital natural resource."

LTwo Michter's Masters Pamela Heilmann and Andrea Wilson Team Up for One 10 Year Bourbon ReleaseOUISVILLE, Ky., March 20, 2018 - After sampling barrels with Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson, Michter's Master Distiller Pamela Heilmann has approved the April 2018 release of Michter's 10 Year Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

"While grain selection, cooking, yeast, fermentation, and distillation are all critical, the story doesn't end there. So much of the quality of the whiskey comes from what happens after it's put into the barrel. With Pam Heilmann and Andrea Wilson, we have two phenomenal whiskey experts leading our team," said Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco.

While the position of Master Distiller is well established in Kentucky, the position of Master of Maturation is less common outside of Scotland and Ireland. Wilson's job is to support Heilmann by managing barrel specifications, barrel procurement, heat cycling and monitoring of liquid temperatures during aging, and tracking the maturation of particular barrels like those evaluated for this year's 10 year release. Wilson says, "By having two Masters, Michter's is recognizing that there are two very distinct phases of making Kentucky bourbon. I'm extremely honored to be able to support Pam." Widely respected for her accomplishments in the whiskey world, Wilson was the first woman to ever serve as Chair of the Kentucky Distillers' Association.

As Master Distiller at Michter's, Heilmann occupies the company's "Dr. No" position with ultimate responsibility and ultimate authority to approve all Michter's releases. Before joining Michter's, Heilmann ran Booker Noe Distillery, at that time the largest bourbon distillery in the world, where she was Distillery Manager. "Our goal is to make the greatest American whiskey. At Michter's the standards are incredibly high, and we only release something when it's ready, not just because it's 10 years and a day old," offered Heilmann. "It's great to be able to work with someone as knowledgeable about wood science and whiskey as Andrea. When we tasted this 10 Year Bourbon, both of us were very happy and very excited to release it this year."

The suggested U.S. retail price per 750ml bottle of Michter's 10 Year Bourbon is $120.

The milestone barrel — a first for Kentucky distilleries — was personally filled and sealed by Seventh Generation Master Distiller Fred Noe and his son Freddie Noe, Eighth Generation Beam Distiller, at the brand's flagship distillery in Clermont, Ky.

"Fifteen million is a big number, but we're a big bourbon," said Fred Noe. "When Jim Beam, my great grandfather, filled his first barrel of whiskey at our Clermont distillery after Prohibition, I doubt he would have predicted that one day we would be a brand known and enjoyed the world over."

The historic milestone, achieved less than two years after the filling of Jim Beam's 14 millionth barrel — the shortest period of time between milestone barrel fills — serves as a testament to the continued global bourbon boom. The growing momentum can be attributed to continued strong sales spurred by rising global demand and the excellent performance of the entire Jim Beam portfolio across the United States, Europe and Southeast Asia.

"We're reaching these milestones faster and faster," said Craig Christenson, vice president global marketing, Jim Beam. Rise From The Fire highlights the efforts of national and local community organizations that benefit the firefighters, fire victims and the fire community. Through a nationwide benefit concert series featuring exclusive performances from surprise headliners, Jack Daniel's Tennessee Fire encourages consumers to support the cause. The brand knows first-hand what devastation can be caused by fires. The Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, TN experienced a fire in the 1930's that halted operations for several years. The Distillery later reopened with a full fire brigade on the grounds, which is still functional today.

NICOLE AUSTIN NAMED GENERAL MANAGER AND DISTILLER OF CASCADE HOLLOW DISTILLING CO. – THE HOME OF GEORGE DICKEL TENNESSEE WHISKY.TULLAHOMA, , March 5, 2018 When Nicole Austin was hand selected by distilling icon Dave Pickerell to be the first employee for his spirits consulting firm in 2012, the spirits industry took note of her fresh thinking and strategic vision.  When The New York Times dubbed her "Bourbon's Master of the Craft" in 2014, the industry applauded her distilling expertise.  When the rye whiskey she helped create won Double Gold at the 2015 San Francisco Spirits Competition, they celebrated her creativity and innovation.  And, this week, when she was named General Manager and Distiller for the newly formed Cascade Hollow Distilling Co., Austin knew she'd found a home in Tennessee.

What was formerly known as the George Dickel Distillery will now be called Cascade Hollow Distilling Co. – the home of George Dickel Tennessee Whisky and future innovation spirits.  George Dickel's "Handmade the Hard Way" approach to making whisky will remain the same and Austin will be charged with overseeing the brand's 148-year legacy of making Tennessee's smoothest, award winning craft whisky.  As General Manager of Cascade Hollow Distilling Co., she will establish the vision of what this new company can be and ignite commercial and innovation strategies for the flagship George Dickel brand, future innovation spirits and the distillery.

Austin graduated from Manhattan College with a major in Chemical Engineering in 2006, before landing her position as a Master Blender for Kings County Distillery in 2010.  She then joined The Oak View Spirits consulting firm where she handled everything from raw material sourcing to contract negotiations.  Most recently, Nicole served as Project Commissioning Engineer for William Grant & Sons at the Tullamore Distillery in Ireland.  She's also been a fierce advocate for the distilling industry as a founding board member of the American Craft Spirits Association and co-chair of Legislative, Convention and State Guild Committees.

Aged for 15 years in American White Oak ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in Madeira wine casks from Portugal'sMadeira Island, The Tyrconnell 15 Year Old Madeira Cask Finish is a one-of-a-kind Irish whiskey with an unsurpassed richness and complexity. It is the oldest Madeira cask finished Tyrconnell released.

By 2007, The Tyrconnell distilling team was experimenting with different finishing techniques after discovering how amenable their light, soft and fruity whiskey was to a cask finish. One of the first modern Irish whiskeys aged in Madeira casks, The Tyrconnell 10 Year Old Madeira Cask Finish, was released in 2007 alongside The Tyrconnell 10 Year Old Port Cask Finish and The Tyrconnell 10 Year Old Sherry Cask Finish, all permanent expressions in the brand's portfolio.

"We knew we had discovered something special when we first began experimenting with finishing The Tyrconnell in Madeira casks," says John Cashman, Global Brand Ambassador. "Because we are in the fortunate position of being one of the oldest Irish whiskey-producing companies, we have the patience to wait 15 long years to present something truly remarkable. The 15 year old Tyrconnell finished in Madeira casks is a beautifully rich and spicy spirit, one that I like to enjoy neat or over a few cubes."

The Tyrconnell is made of just two ingredients – the finest Irish barley and pure Irish spring water. These two simple materials are transformed by experienced hands into an Irish whiskey like no other. Produced in traditional pot stills, The Tyrconnell is one of a rare few Irish whiskeys that utilizes double distillation, allowing more of the rich and natural flavors of The Tyrconnell to remain. This creates a whiskey that carries a delicate flavor atop a creamier, more viscous presence.

Aging the whiskey for 15 years before incorporating the Madeira cask finishing method into this unique limited edition has resulted in an even more complex expression with an incredible evergreen forest freshness. The best way to enjoy this sipping whiskey is on the rocks or neat to showcase the rich, sweet aromas on the nose, its fresh flavor and spicy finish.

The legend of The Tyrconnell® was born in 1876, when R. M. Delamere entered his beautiful chestnut colt, Tyrconnell, in the 10th running of the prestigious National Produce Stakes Horse Race at The Curragh, considered Ireland's most important thoroughbred racecourse. A short thoroughbred with the odds stacked against him, fortune found favor that afternoon as Tyrconnell crossed the finish line in first place, besting horses and oddsmakers alike on his march to victory. 

The against-all-odds victory captured the imagination of the assembled crowd, which included the Watts, an Irish race horse loving family who had built a thriving whiskey distillery. They chose to commemorate Tyrconnell's win by creating a limited edition, small batch whiskey that bore the name of their local champion. Although the Watts family intended to make The Tyrconnell just once, it ended up becoming their most popular whiskey, even claimed to have been the best-selling Irish whiskey in America before Prohibition.

Wafer biscuit sweet vanilla aromas mingle with banana bread and deep red fruit skin. Very soft and approachable with hazelnut and dark sugar lingering under the surface.

TASTE

Initially soft but then an explosion of spice. Viscous and oily, coating the mouth with stone fruit, hints of Peach Melba and a fresh herbaceous zest.

FINISH

Astonishingly long, initially sweet with the stone fruit to the fore followed closely by burnt orange peel, drying with an almost evergreen forest freshness and a finale of spice that lingers for what seems like an eternity.
