About Maker’s Mark:

Maker’s Mark is a small-batch, wheated bourbon whisky distilled at the Maker's Mark Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. Founded in 1953 by Bill Samuels Sr. and his wife Margie, the brand is famous for its hand-dipped red wax seal and its unique decision to use soft red winter wheat instead of rye in its mash bill to achieve a smoother, sweeter flavor profile.

The Maker’s Mark Difference

  • Wheated Mash Bill: While most bourbons use rye for spice, Maker’s Mark uses 16% soft red winter wheat, which provides a creamy, front-of-palate sweetness with notes of vanilla and caramel.
  • Handcrafted Traditions: Every bottle is still hand-dipped in red wax (a trademarked look), and every barrel is rotated by hand in the warehouse to ensure consistent aging.
  • Spelling Legacy: It is one of the few American brands to use the Scottish spelling "whisky" without the "e," a tribute to the Samuels family's Scots-Irish heritage.
  • Sustainability: As a certified B Corp, Maker’s Mark emphasizes regenerative agriculture and maintains its own limestone-filtered water source at Star Hill Farm.

Product Lineup

  • Classic Maker’s Mark: The original 90-proof bourbon known for being approachable and smooth.
  • Maker’s Mark 46: The first major new expression, finished with seared French oak staves for a bolder, spicier profile.
  • Cask Strength: The original recipe bottled at its natural proof, typically between 108 and 114 proof.
  • Cellar Aged: The distillery's oldest release, featuring a blend of whiskies aged up to 14 years in a limestone cellar.
  • Wood Finishing Series: Annual limited releases, such as the 2026 Stewards Release, which use custom stave profiles to amplify specific flavors.
