About WhistlePig:

WhistlePig is an independent craft whiskey distillery based in Shoreham, Vermont, renowned for its award-winning, premium rye whiskeys and its "Triple Terroir" philosophy: using estate-grown rye, local water, and Vermont oak barrels for aging.

Origins & Philosophy

Founded in 2007 by entrepreneur Raj Bhakta and late Master Distiller Dave Pickerell (formerly of Maker's Mark), the brand launched in 2010. It operates out of a 500-acre farm in a renovated 150-year-old dairy barn. The distillery is known for its "rebellious" and experimental approach, led by a young, diverse team including Head Distiller Emily Harrison and Chief Blender Meghan Ireland.

Core Whiskey Portfolio

WhistlePig is famous for bold, complex flavors and high age statements.

  • 10-Year Small Batch Rye: The flagship 100-proof expression that established the brand's reputation.
  • 12-Year Old World Cask Finish: Finished in European wine casks (Madeira, Sauternes, and Port) to add dark chocolate and fruit notes.
  • 15-Year Estate Oak Rye: Fully represents the Vermont terroir, finished in local oak for rich butterscotch flavors.
  • PiggyBack Series: Includes a 6-year rye and a 6-year bourbon, both designed as accessible "pour-it-yourself" options for cocktails.
  • The Boss Hog: An annual, limited-edition release of single-barrel, barrel-strength rye featuring innovative finishes (e.g., Japanese Umeshu or Filipino rum casks).

Notable Innovations & Recent News

  • Expansion: In 2025, the brand opened "The Vault" in Louisville, KY, an elevated tasting experience located in a historic 1911 bank.
  • Ultra-Aged Releases: Recent luxury offerings include the 25-year Badönkådonk and the 30-year BigShǝBàng (priced at $4,999), their oldest and rarest single malt to date.
  • Quirky Collaborations: Known for offbeat partnerships, such as a "wheat whiskey" proofed with Liquid Death mountain water and finished in casket-shaped barrels.

Tasting Locations

While the farm in Shoreham is not open to the public, you can visit:
