Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville, TN, is the first distillery in the United States to honor an African-American whiskey maker, Nathan “Nearest” Green. Often called "Malt Disney World," the 432-acre property is a major tourist destination that celebrates Tennessee whiskey, walking horses, and music.

Historical Significance

• Nathan "Nearest" Green: An enslaved man who became the first African-American master distiller on record and taught Jack Daniel how to make whiskey.
• Lincoln County Process: Green is credited with perfecting this sugar maple charcoal filtering technique, which defines Tennessee whiskey today.
• Modern Legacy: Founded in 2017 by CEO Fawn Weaver, the brand is the fastest-growing independent American whiskey company in history. Victoria Eady Butler, Green's great-great-granddaughter, serves as Master Blender.
