Background & Location
Old Line Spirits was established in Baltimore in February 2017 by Mark McLaughlin and Arch Watkins, who met while flying EA-6B Prowlers in the Navy. They were inspired to start a distillery after noticing a lack of craft distilleries in Maryland and falling in love with the idea of American single malt whiskey.
Distillery Location: The distillery is located in an old warehouse in the Highlandtown neighborhood of Baltimore, Maryland, featuring a 5,000 square foot courtyard and an on-site cocktail bar called “The Ready Room”.
Production: The founders learned the distilling process from Bob Stilnovich of Golden Distillery in Washington state, eventually acquiring his equipment and recipes. While some production later shifted to a partnership with Middle West Spirits in Columbus, Ohio, aging and bottling occur in Baltimore.
Name Origin: The name “Old Line Spirits” honors Maryland’s nickname, the “Old Line State,” a reference to the Maryland Line regiment’s heroic actions and dependability during the Revolutionary War.
