About Sagamore Spirit:

Sagamore Spirit, based in Baltimore, Maryland, is a renowned distiller founded in 2013 to revive Maryland-style rye whiskey, crafting award-winning spirits using limestone-filtered water from a historic 1909 spring house. Their 5-acre waterfront distillery in Port Covington produces high-rye, blended, and "double oak" rye whiskeys, often featuring local Maryland grains.

Key Aspects of Sagamore Spirit

  • Awards & Recognition: Their rye whiskeys have won over 200 international awards, including "World's Best Rye Whiskey" in 2019.
  • Production & Style: Sagamore specializes in a unique Maryland-style rye—a blend of high-rye and low-rye mash bills—that is generally considered a mix of sweet and spicy. While they initially sourced whiskey, they have transitioned to using their own distillate, with plans to be 100% house-distilled.
  • Water Source: All spirits are proofed with water from a limestone aquifer at Sagamore Farm, providing a distinct, mineral-rich component.
  • Distillery Experience: Located at 301 E. Cromwell Street, Baltimore, the distillery offers tours, tastings, a whiskey bar (Nineteen O’Nine), and waterfront views.
  • Acquisition: In September 2023, the company was acquired by Illva Saronno, the owner of Disaronno.

Core Collection & Offerings:

  • Signature Rye: Their flagship whiskey.
  • Double Oak Rye: Aged in a second, toasted oak barrel.
  • Cask Strength Rye: A higher-proof offering.
  • Reserve Series: Limited releases, such as the PX Sherry Finish or Port Finish.

Visitor Information:

  • Tours & Tastings: Available for booking on the Sagamore Spirit website.
  • Location: 301 E. Cromwell Street, Baltimore, Maryland, in the Port Covington/Baltimore Peninsula area.
