WhistlePig PiggyBack 100 Proof 6-Year Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey 50%-ABV, 750ml bottles.
About WhistlePig Whiskey:
WhistlePig is a Vermont-based craft whiskey distillery known for its award-winning, high-end rye whiskeys. The brand is celebrated for its boundary-pushing methods and focus on aging, blending, and innovative finishing techniques. The distillery has earned a reputation for helping to revive American rye whiskey.
History and process
- A "Triple Terroir" vision: Founded in 2007 by entrepreneur Raj Bhakta, WhistlePig started on a 500-acre farm in Shoreham, Vermont. With the help of the late Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, the initial vision was to eventually grow the rye, use the water, and barrel-age the whiskey with oak all from the farm—a concept they call "Triple Terroir".
- Early sourcing: In its early days, WhistlePig sourced high-quality aged rye whiskey from Canada and Indiana to use as a base for its products. This allowed them to release well-aged products while their own distilled spirits matured.
- Vermont-based production: The distillery opened on its farm in a renovated 150-year-old dairy barn in 2015. The company has since expanded its in-house, field-to-bottle production, but it continues to source some liquid from other producers.
- Innovation: WhistlePig is known for audacious finishing techniques, using a wide variety of casks from around the world. Past releases have utilized barrels from Madeira, Sauternes, port, and even Japanese umeshu plum liqueur.
