When we received the bottle of Iowa Shine Corn Whiskey from the folks at Iowa Distilling Company, it couldn’t have come at a better time. The cloudy, cold, skies of winter and the never-ending snow have us here at JustMalt.com seriously wishing for a little of sunshine and warmth. Well, we got our wish in a bottle of corn whiskey.
We tried the whiskey three ways –neat, over ice and in a whiskey sour.
Neat – Iowa Shine is clean, bright with an unmistakable hint of corn sweetness like a corn nut. We especially loved the alcoholic warmth after a day of shoveling snow and the nutty nose.
Over Ice – This was our least preferred method, but we blame our ice cubes.
Whiskey Sour - As recommended on their website and because we were craving a little taste of summer, we decided to taste Iowa Shine with a little lemon juice and sugar. This was definitely our preferred method. If you are seeking a drink that tastes like sunshine and feels like sunshine in your stomach, this is it. And I’m not sure if it was the Iowa Shine or the brightness of an almost full moon overhead, but as we all sipped on our whiskey sours, I found myself singing “I’ve got Iowa Shine on a cloudy day. When it’s cold outside, I got the month of May… ”
And there you have it, folks. If you are looking for an aged single malt whisky, this is not the whiskey for you. And Iowa Shine makes no apologies for that. It proudly states on the flask-shaped bottle that this is not an aged or mature whisky. It is double distilled, pure and raw. But if you’re looking for a little warmth and sunshine a cloudy day, well, you just might find it in a bottle of Iowa Shine.
Thanks to the folks at Iowa Distilling for sending us the bottle of Iowa Shine. We had a lot of fun trying this whiskey, and we will certainly continue to enjoy it with our friends and family.
Awesome review and good advice!
