Good Old Country Comforts: This Maple pecan espresso martini is a winter twist on the contemporary coffee classic, Wolfie’s makes this pecan pie inspired martini the perfect drink to warm those winter bones.
Named after a lyric in Country Comfort from Gasoline Alley, this serve takes inspiration from the heart of America and autumn stapes like pecan pie, maple syrup and, of course, a warm cup of coffee. The song was written by Bernie Taupin – Elton John’s songwriting partner, and the fact our cocktail is a ‘cover’ of the OG espresso martini, it ties the story up nicely.
INGREDIENTS:
- 40ml Wolfie’s Scotch Whisky
- 20ml coffee liqueur (e.g., Kahlua)
- 30ml freshly brewed espresso
- 10ml butter pecan syrup
- 50ml heavy whipping cream
- 15ml maple syrup
- 1 candied pecan for garnish
GARNISH:
Candied pecan
INSTRUCTIONS:
Add maple syrup to heavy cream in a small glass, whip with milk frother/whisk and set aside. Shake up everything else and fine strain into a straight sided coupe. Gently spoon the maple cream float over the cocktail.
Great Newport Street Sour: The Wolfie’s Whisky Sour spiced-up with fiery ginger, the perfect pour for long dark nights, song, and cheer.
Gingerbread makes me a bit nostalgic, and this drink got me thinking about the start of my musical career. Great Newport Street is in the heart of Covent Garden, and many moons ago was home of the famous Studio 51 club, also known as the Ken Colyer Club. It was here I had a weekly residency with Jimmy Powell and The Five Dimensions, as part of the new and thriving London R&B scene… Studio 51 was often headlined by The Rolling Stones, and I spent many a night perfecting my harmonica skills watching Jagger on stage.
INGREDIENTS:
- 70ml Wolfie’s Scotch Whisky
- 20ml ginger liqueur
- 45ml lime juice
- 45ml ginger syrup
- 1 egg white or 45ml aquafaba
- splash of bitters
GARNISH: Candied ginger
INSTRUCTIONS:
Add all listed ingredients to a shaker – with no ice – dry shake for 10 seconds. Add ice to shaker and repeat for 10 more seconds. Double Strain into your favourite whisky glass.
New Year’s Eve: Had Me A Real Good Time Holiday Punch: Rod said it best: ‘recording with The Faces was always an occasion for a party’. This Wolfie’s Holiday Punch is perfect for a clan gathering and high shenanigans!
A punch bowl is all about sharing at a big celebration – friends and family getting together and having a real good time. In the song, it’s the story of someone (Rod) turning up to a highfalutin shindig and getting kicked out for drunk and disorderly behaviour but having a blast none the less. In Storyteller, Rod says recording with The Faces was always an occasion for a party – ‘with many comings and goings, and a great deal of nonsense, foul play and high shenanigans all round’ which sums it up well!
INGREDIENTS:
- 750ml Wolfie’s Scotch Whisky
- 300ml amaro
- 500ml cranberry juice
- 1l fresh orange juice
- 200ml lime juice
- 100ml grenadine
- 50ml lime juice
- 3 vanilla pods split down middle
- 3 clementines, 3 limes and 3 lemons sliced in wheels
- 2 bottles of prosecco
INSTRUCTIONS:
Combine all punch ingredients except prosecco in a large glass punch bowl. Refrigerate for two hours. Remove bowl from fridge and discard vanilla pods. Throw in some ice cubes and serve into large glass goblets filled with ice. Top each glass up with prosecco.
Falling Velvet Christmas Affogato: is rich, smooth, and decadently drizzled with warmed Wolfie’s and mince pie over ice cream. The perfect curtain closer for your Christmas feast.
The affogato is all about the slow pour of Wolfie’s, warmed with mince pie flavours over ice cream; rich, decadent, and smooth. The name ‘Falling Velvet’ comes from a great little story Rod tells about an incident on stage during his time in The Faces: “...the power outage caused the stage manager to drop the curtain - much to the surprise of Ronnie Wood, who was standing directly underneath it at the time and was almost killed by about half a ton of falling velvet (because, let me tell you, in those days a curtain was a curtain.)”.
INGREDIENTS:
- 80ml Wolfie’s Scotch Whisky (or as much as you’d like)
- 2tbsp fruit mincemeat
- 15ml golden syrup
- 2 large scoops of high-end vanilla ice cream
INSTRUCTIONS: Gently heat Wolfie’s with fruit mincemeat and golden syrup in a pot. Strain into a heated jug and pour over the best vanilla ice cream you can get your hands on.
Hogmanay: The Rod Roy Winter Manhattan: A rascal’s rendition of the Rob Roy, Wolfie’s warm vanilla notes marry up with sweet apple for winters strut down Manhattan.
A Manhattan cocktail always makes me think of dark, atmospheric, and opulent prohibition bars in NYC, and a fabulous bartender once told me that, when it’s made with whisky rather than bourbon, it’s called a Rob Roy. This is my winter take on an Appletini, with a twist and a splash of apple schnapps to make the cinnamon and vanilla in Wolfie’s sing. This is a simple, smooth sipping cocktail perfect for parties.
INGREDIENTS:
- 50ml Wolfie’s Scotch Whisky
- 20ml apple schnapps
- 15ml sweet vermouth
- Splash of bitters
- Cinnamon sugar for dusting
GARNISH: a twist of lemon, a glacé cherry, and a very light dusting of cinnamon sugar
INSTRUCTIONS: Stir all ingredients in an ice filled cocktail shaker until well chilled. Double strain into classic coupe glass.
Burn’s Night: Highgate Highlander is a celebratory sipper inspired by creamy cranachan. Join Rod as we raise a glass to the ploughman poet Rabbie Burns, Scotland’s national bard.
For Burn’s Night we’ve taken inspiration from the bard himself and the famously delightful and creamy Scottish dessert, cranachan, which is often served after a traditional Burn’s supper. The Highgate Highlander is a twist on the classic Bobby Burns cocktail (Scotch, vermouth, Benedictine), with big, bold raspberry flavours and a surprising splash of oat milk to mellow out the sweet flavours of Wolfie’s. Highgate is a reference to where I grew up in London, above my parent’s newsagent where I had a fantastically happy childhood, and Highlander, of course, is a toast to the ploughman poet Rabbie Burns himself, who I’ll be raising a glass to this 25th of January.
INGREDIENTS
- 60ml Wolfie’s Scotch Whisky
- 20ml sweet whisky liqueur
- 20ml green ginger wine
- 10ml oat milk (optional)
- 20ml honey syrup – either storebought or homemade, see below
- 120ml runny honey
- 120ml water
- 2 tablespoon raspberry compote
- 3 fresh raspberries for garnish.
GARNISH: Three fresh raspberries on a cocktail stick
INSTRUCTIONS:
Make honey syrup by combining 120ml honey and 120ml water, bring to a slow boil, remove from the heat, and allow to cool – or you can use a store-bought honey syrup. Add one tablespoon of compote plus all other ingredients to a shaker – including 30ml of honey syrup – shake well and serve in to a lowball glass with the remaining tbsp of compote in the bottom of a crushed ice filled whisky glass.
