Penderyn Wins Seven Gold Medals in the 2021 Spirits Business World Whisky Masters

Brecon Beacons, Wales – August 25, 2021: Penderyn Distillery continues to establish itself as one of the world’s best single malt whisky producers by securing an impressive seven prestigious Gold medals at The 2021 Spirits Business World Whisky Masters and earning top ratings for six of its whiskies at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2021. The recently announced awards spotlight Penderyn’s soon-to-be-released Icons of Wales Rhiannon and 12 expressions from the distillery’s Gold and Dragon ranges, which make up the core product lines from the renowned producer.

Presented by The Spirits Business, the World Whisky Masters competition rewards the very best in all internationally recognized styles of whisky from around the globe. All samples entered into the competition are tasted blind by an expert panel of judges. In the category “Europe - Single Malt,” Penderyn won the highest distinctions for the following:

  • GOLD - Penderyn Gold Range Peated: Penderyn Peated has a delicate spirit, a medium peaty character, and a light golden tone. It is bottled at 46% abv.
  • GOLD - Penderyn Gold Range Rich Oak: Penderyn Rich Oak is finished in the finest rejuvenated European ex- wine casks and bottled at 46%.
  • GOLD - Penderyn Gold Range Sherrywood: Penderyn Sherrywood has been aged in ex-bourbon barrels and ex-Oloroso sherry casks to bring out its rich, fruity flavor. It is bottled at 46% abv.
  • GOLD - Penderyn Gold Range Portwood: The Portwood-finished whisky is a favorite among customers in France and a real attention grabber. It is bottled at 46% abv.
  • GOLD - Penderyn Gold Range Madeira: Penderyn Madeira is the original Penderyn house style, aged in ex-bourbon barrels and finished in ex-Madeira wine casks to bring out its full gold character. It is bottled at 46% abv.
  • GOLD - Penderyn Dragon Range Myth: Myth is aged entirely in ex-bourbon casks and is full of dried fruit and sweet flavors. It is bottled at 43% abv.
  • GOLD - Penderyn Icons of Wales Range Rhiannon: A brand new Sherrywood Grand Cru finished whisky at 46% abv. Rhiannon is the seventh release in the Penderyn ‘Icons of Wales’ series. It celebrates Rhiannon, a powerful enchantress and horse goddess from the ancient Welsh folk tales, The Mabinogi, which were written in the 11th century and are some of the earliest writings in Europe. The expression was also the winner of a Gold medal in the 2019 Spirits Business Design & Packaging Awards and is available in the US starting September 2021.

Penderyn Dragon Range Celt rated 95 points in the Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2021.

The Wolrd Whisky Masters results come in the heels of the recent Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2021, in which Penderyn also garnered top ratings for six of its single malt whiskies, including:

  • Penderyn Gold Range Peated: Excellent 93 Points
  • Penderyn Gold Range Madeira: Excellent 92 Points
  • Penderyn Gold Range Rich Oak: Excellent 92 Points
  • Penderyn Dragon Range Celt: Extraordinary 95 Points, Finalist
  • Penderyn Dragon Range Myth: Excellent 92 Points
  • Penderyn Dragon Range Legend: Excellent 91 Points

This summer, Penderyn opened its latest distillery in Llandudno. The brand’s second location features a Penderyn signature single-column Faraday still and will be the first distillery in Wales fully dedicated to producing peated single malt whisky.
