Shackleton Whisky Launches Shazam Augmented Reality Experience

(PRNewsfoto/Shackleton Whisky)NEW YORK, Jan. 31, 2019 Shackleton Whisky, created to honor adventurer Sir Ernest Shackleton, is launching Shackleton Augmented Reality in partnership with Shazam. Shazam, which originally launched as a music identification app, has grown into a content distribution platform with Shackleton Whisky as one of its first brand partners. The environment comes to life on the Shackleton Gift Box, and users can simply download the Shazam app, tap the camera icon, and scan the code on 'peel to reveal' stickers on the gift box to experience Sir Ernest Shackleton's1907 British Antarctic Expedition. On this expedition, whisky was left behind at Shackleton's base camp, where it sat frozen for over 100 years, before being rediscovered, and reimagined into Shackleton Whisky.

The Shackleton AR environment transports consumers into a 3D Antarctic experience featuring actual time period footage of Sir Ernest Shackleton, following key moments of his journey. He took the bravest men he could find and 25 cases of Mackinlay's Old Highland Malt Whisky - with the aim of being the first to reach the South Pole. The experiences also chronicle Shackleton's legendary leadership, choosing the safety of his men over his own personal glory. With the pole under 100 miles away, Shackleton chose to turn back, and remarkably returned all of his men home safely. Returning home as a heroes, Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew made headlines around the world for breaking all records by reaching 88 degrees south.

'Discovered Under Ice, Served Over Ice' tells the journey of Shackleton Whisky itself.  From the discovery of 11 intact bottles of the original Mackinlay's that sat frozen for over 100 years following the events of 1907, to Master Blender Richard Paterson analyzing the antique liquid and creating a new modern Scotch, Shackleton Whisky captures Sir Ernest Shackleton's sense of adventure and bold character.

Software developer Zappar was instrumental in taking this epic tale and adapting it to modern day by utilizing ZapWorks and 3D Studio Max cutting edge technology. Virtual Reality glasses do not need to be used for the optimal VR experience. The Shackleton environment has been optimized to work on both Android and iOS devices in the Shazam app. Shackleton Augmented Reality launches January 2019 and will be available throughout the rest of the year.

Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery Opening Celebration on January 31st, 2019

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 22, 2019 After years of restoration work, Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery will have an opening celebration on Thursday, January 31st, 2019.  Public tours are scheduled to begin on February 2nd and can be booked at www.michters.com. Located at 801 West Main Street on Louisville's Museum Row, the distillery is directly across the street from The Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory and down the block from The Frazier History Museum, which has been designated the Kentucky Bourbon Trail Welcome Center.

Experience the interactive Multichannel News Release here: https://www.multivu.com/players/English/8484651-michters-fort-nelson-distillery-opening/

The Fort Nelson building is an impressive example of cast iron and stone construction with Romanesque windows and a striking corner turret rising above its neighbors. First built in 1890, the building was in such disrepair when purchased by Michter's in 2012 that it featured a collapsed staircase and no floors. "It's only fitting that a once abandoned, great American brand found its home in a once abandoned, great American building. The Fort Nelson Building is an architectural gem, and our team is so fortunate to have had the opportunity to bring it back to life and make it a special place for everyone to visit," said Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. Saving the historic building required extensive work including the installation of 400,000 pounds of structural steel.

Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery will be operating with tours, tastings, and a gift shop. Whiskey production there will be conducted on the legendary pot still and cypress wood fermenter system from Michter's Pennsylvania Distillery, which traces its history back to 1753. Michter's Master Distiller Pamela Heilmann commented, "These stills will once again produce some incredibly special whiskey." Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson, said, "Our Distiller Dan McKee, Distillery Manager Matt Bell and our team have done a spectacular job of getting this fantastic equipment working again."

The second floor of the building will feature The Bar at Fort Nelson. Cocktail historian and author David Wondrichconsulted on The Bar's classic cocktail list.  In addition to classic cocktails designed by Dr. Wondrich, the bar program will incorporate modern creations by Head Bartender Sevan Araneda, former General Manager of San Francisco's Bourbon & Branch, and Bar Manager Dante Wheat, former Bar Manager at Louisville's Butchertown Social. The Bar will feature custom glassware from U.K. producer John Jenkins and a highly advanced ice program with machines from top global equipment purveyors, including Clinebell, Hoshizaki and Scotsman. The Bar will serve as a resource for the local Kentuckiana bar community and host educational seminars from leading industry professionals through its Fort Nelson Fellows program.

Michter's has a rich and long legacy of offering traditional American whiskeys of uncompromising quality. With each of its limited production offerings aged to its peak maturity, Michter's highly acclaimed portfolio includes bourbon, rye, and American whiskey. In November 2018, a single bottle of Michter's Bourbon sold at a charity auction for over $17,000. In December 2018, Michter's US*1 Sour Mash was announced as 2019 Whisky of the Year by The Whisky Exchange. And in January 2019, Michter's was named the #1 Top Trending American Whiskey brand by Drinks International in their Annual Brands Report.

In addition to Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery, the company has Michter's Shively Distillery in Louisville as well as its 145-acre farm and operations in Springfield, Kentucky. For more information, please visit www.michters.com, and follow us on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

48415358_2040457086034289_1814211009217298432_n.jpg

BUENA VISTA, CO— Deerhammer Distilling is the proud recipient of the 2019 Good Food Award in the spirits category for their Progeny Series: Cultura Cask Finished American Single Malt Whiskey. The distillery was recognized with the honors at the organization’s annual awards ceremony at the San Francisco War Memorial & Performing Arts Center on Friday, January 11. This is the second win for Deerhammer Distilling at the Good Food Awards following a 2018 win for their American Single Malt Whiskey.

2019 marks the ninth year of the Good Food Awards and the second consecutive year Deerhammer has been recognized as a winner. This platform recognizes to tasty, authentic, and responsible food producers in 16 categories: beer, spirits, cider, charcuterie, cheese, chocolate, coffee, confections, fish, honey, oils, pantry, pickles, preserves, snacks and elixirs. This year’s competition saw 2035 entries.

Deerhammer’s Cultura Cask Finished American Single Malt was one of 401 finalists for the 2019 awards, which included 22 other finalists in the competition’s spirits category.

“It is a huge honor to take home the Good Food Award for a second time,” explains co-founder Lenny Eckstein. “It’s especially meaningful for us to be recognized this time around for such an unconventional whiskey. So much of the American whiskey landscape is absolutely dominated by the same old standard styles and flavors that have been around forever. We do things differently at Deerhammer, and the Progeny Series whiskey that won this year is a great example of exactly that. We took our 2 year American Single Malt and finished it for an additional year in barrels that we seasoned with Guatemalan cacao nibs from Cultura Craft Chocolate.”

Spirits that meet the criteria for Good Food Awards entry must be made in the United States utilizing ingredients grown and sourced responsibly without the use of synthetic herbicides, pesticides, fungicides or fertilizers as much as possible, free of artificial ingredients, and distilled without GMOs.

For more information about Deerhammer Distilling, contact Emily Hutto at coop@radcraftbeer.com.

Rogue Introduces First-of-its-Kind Stouted Whiskey

Rogue Introduces First-of-its-Kind Stouted WhiskeyNewport, Ore. (January 17, 2016)—From Rolling Thunder Barrel Works, Rogue’s Newport-based cooperage (barrel-making facility), comes the return of Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout and the new Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey. A first-of-its-kind stouted American Single Malt whiskey, Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey is the culmination of all things DIY from Rogue.

Rogue Cooper Nate Linquist charring a barrel at Rolling Thunder Barrel Works in Newport, Ore.

Released each February, Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout is aged in whiskey-soaked barrels that are made at Rogue’s Rolling Thunder Barrel Works. Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey takes it a step further:

  1. Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey starts with barley grown and harvested at Rogue Farms
  2. That barley is brewed into wash and distilled into whiskey
  3. While Master Distiller Brian Pribyl is distilling the whiskey, Rogue cooper (barrel-maker) Nate Linquist makes a barrel out of Oregon Oak (Quercus garryana)
  4. The whiskey is aged one year in these Rolling Thunder Barrel Works barrels.
Towards the end of that aging period, Brewmaster John Maier brews his imperial stout.
  5. Brian’s whiskey is then transferred to new barrels and John’s imperial stout is transferred to the whiskey-soaked barrels. After nine months, the beer is pulled and released as Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout.
  6. The original whiskey is put back into the whiskey- and stout-soaked barrels for an additional two years of aging.
  7. Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey, the final product of all this hard work and time is hand-bottled in hand-numbered bottles and topped with a hand-branded topper.

The Rolling Thunder family of products is what sets Rogue apart from other craft breweries and distilleries. “As the only farmer-brewer-distiller-cooper in the world, we are the only company who can create Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey completely in house,” says Rogue President Dharma Tamm. “We grow ingredients we use to brew and distill and make the barrels we age those products in. As Rogues, we are excited by the possibility of creating things by hand that no one has the patience to do.”

Rogue Introduces First-of-its-Kind Stouted Whiskey

Opening with subtle aromas of smoke and sea air, Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey has notes of dark cocoa, toffee and dried fruit and a coffee and grain finish.
This year, Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout features prominent notes of chocolate and coffee that complement the flavors of whiskey-soaked Oregon Oak.
Rolling Thunder Stouted Whiskey is available in limited quantities nationally in hand-numbered 750ml bottles.
Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout is available in limited quantities nationally in hand-numbered, 500ml (16.9 ounce) bottles. Use the Rogue Finder to find it near you.

Breaking Bourbon Ventures Forth With Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 15 Straight Bourbon Whiskey - AVAILABLE NOW at CaskCartel.com

CHEYENNE, WYO. JANUARY 17, 2019  Cask Cartel offers a highly-sought after premium bourbon: Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 15 Straight Bourbon Whiskey. Recently there has been a huge request from consumers and Cask Carted is supplying their demand.

Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 15 takes the refined bourbon drinker in a sensorial journey across seas and oceans. Not only has it been aged at sea, but the journey takes place across the equator 4 times as well as stopping in 5 continents. It is hard to find another bourbon of its kind. Why spend money on tickets when anyone can get a little taste of the salty sea air, literally, with this fabulous whiskey?

Started as a fun, then scientific experiment, the Ocean series studies the effects that perpetual motion of the ship rolling in the seas, temperature fluctuations, salt water air exposure. The unique environmental elements create dark gold bourbon with a distinctive flavor profile.

By replacing rye (previously used in the bourbons of previous Ocean’s voyages) with wheat, Jefferson’s Ocean 15 provides a softer and subtler flavor profile, allowing the vanillas from the wood and the sweetness from the corn to raise prominently to the surface, bringing with it a lifeline of salty accents that only the oceans air can provide.

Breaking Bourbon has offered more insights on this experimental drink. Jefferson’s Ocean Voyage 15 aroma, taste and finish have been carefully analyzed:

  • Nose. Noticeably light, this bourbon’s nose arrives on a whisper. Butterscotch and vanilla dominate with a slight burst of caramel and youthful oak on the tail-end. Its sweetness is dominant despite its overall thinness. There are only generic bourbon flavors on display, which struggle to be memorable.
  • Palate. A thin yet oily mouthfeel delivers big oak on the first sip. Clove, pepper, grain, and burnt caramel join the fray, producing an interesting interplay of flavors. I can’t say I’ve had many bourbons that taste in the same wheelhouse as this one. Sure some may include similar flavors, but it’s the exchange of the flavors that make this particular palate unique and noteworthy.
  • Finish. Seasoned oak, allspice, wet cedar, dill, pecans, and fresh sourdough make up this peculiar finish. Slight heat and an almost phantom-like hint of cinnamon develop in the tail end. Like the palate, there is a lot going on in the finish, and while it doesn’t all blend together perfectly, it’s rather intriguing and asks for another sip.

Breaking Bourbon members were completely satisfied by the refinement and unique taste brought by Jefferson’s Voyage 15. “What can easily be seen as a gimmick to some, in my experience, has resulted in some of the most unique tasting bourbons I've had in the last few years. When I go to my shelf for a pour, in an endless sea of like-tasting bourbons, it’s often the one-of-a-kind tasting bourbons that win out. If the last few Voyages are any indication of the type of products that Zoeller has turned the series into, I say “All aboard.” – Eric from Breaking Bourbon.

Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 15 Straight Bourbon Whiskey is currently available for purchase at CaskCartel.com

Introducing the Spiciest Member of The Family: Old Forester Rye

Introducing the Spiciest Member of The Family: Old Forester RyeLOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 15, 2019 - Old Forester, America's First Bottled Bourbon™, will introduce Old Forester Kentucky Straight Rye Whisky, the distillery's first new grain recipe in nearly 150 years. Old Forester Rye will be available nationwide beginning February 1.

"Our signature bourbon recipe has done this brand proud through Prohibition, World Wars and changing consumer palates," said Campbell Brown, Old Forester President and great-great grandson of founder George Garvin Brown. "This January we will create a new tradition with a Kentucky Straight Rye that will capture the hearts and excite the palates of experienced Rye drinkers and curious whisky enthusiasts alike."

The newest expression from Old Forester was crafted by Master Distiller Chris Morris and Master Taster Jackie Zykan. Old Forester Rye is inspired by the historic recipe for Normandy Rye, a brand which Brown-Forman acquired in 1940. The mash bill consists of 65 percent Rye, 20 percent Malted Barley and 15 percent Corn.

"Throughout history, rye whisky showcased a balanced grain recipe," said Chris Morris, VP Master Distiller-Whiskey Innovation. "The high proportion of malted barley in this traditional recipe allows for a wholly natural fermentation process, leveraging Old Forester's proprietary yeast strain. The generous percentage of Malted Barley yields a unique floral character, producing a remarkably balanced Rye."

Old Forester Kentucky Straight Rye Whisky is presented at 100 proof.

"Old Forester Rye stays true to our standards of quality, consistency, and balance while delivering on value as only Old Forester can," said Zykan. "The spicy, yet floral complexity of this expression offers a completely different flavor profile than its bourbon cousin. At 100 proof, it plays beautifully in cocktails, but also stands up boldly on its own."

Old Forester 100 Proof Rye will be offered nationwide at a suggested retail price of $22.99, parity priced with Old Forester 100 Proof Bourbon.

Tasting Notes from the Master Taster, Jackie Zykan

Aroma:

Rich brown sugar and magnolia blossom, with hints of soft sassafras and candied lemon

Taste:

Spice awakens immediately leading with sharp black pepper and cinnamon stick, rounding out with notes of dried dill and baked apple

Finish:

BUSHMILLS RED BUSH Debuts "RED. SET. GO."

NEW YORK, Jan. 15, 2019 Today, iconic Irish whiskey brand BUSHMILLS® debuts RED. SET. GO.", a new high-energy creative campaign in honor of RED BUSH®, the latest addition to the brand's award-winning portfolio of malt-rich blended and single malt Irish whiskeys. An Irish whiskey for the American bourbon drinker, RED BUSH, is aged in ex-bourbon barrels to deliver a rich, bold and complex taste profile.

BUSHMILLS RED BUSH® Presents: Red.Set.Go.

Bushmills Red Bush

Bushmills Red Bush

Bushmills Red Bush Red.Set.Go.

Bushmills Red Bush Red.Set.Go.

Created and produced by Virtue, VICE Media's celebrated creative agency, "RED. SET. GO." depicts a fresh, young, real version of Ireland by following a pack of Belfast locals from dusk to dawn on a lively night out, with RED BUSH in hand. The red-hued anthem immerses viewers in the Ireland unseen. Set in Belfast's alleyways, underground raves, tunnels and cobblestone streets, the :60 spot is backdropped against the gritty and intoxicating single "Louder" by Kid Karate. The ad showcases this group en route from one destination to another, because truly great nights are about the moments in-between and the
anticipation of what's next.

"The next generation of whiskey drinkers craves real experiences and honest brands – we made 'RED. SET. GO.' for them," said Jeffrey Schiller, Brand Director of BUSHMILLS Irish Whiskey. "For so long, Irish whiskey has been about tall tales and green plastic hats on St. Patrick's Day, so 'Irish-ness' has almost become corrupted. We want to show America the real Ireland, and what better Irish whiskey than BUSHMILLS –Ireland's oldest licensed whiskey distillery – to show the way."

"With 'RED. SET. GO.' we want to show the raw and electrifying Ireland that sets us apart from the
romanticized vision of the country that is far too often portrayed," said Jess Toye, Creative Director at Virtue. "The sounds, the set, the people represent the real Belfast and convey the excitement and energy of the city."

In 2019, BUSHMILLS will invest over $77 million to double production capacity over the next five years and meet the increasing demand for the BUSHMILLS portfolio while capitalizing on the continued growth of single malt and premium blended Irish whiskeys in the United States and beyond. RED BUSH is now one of the fastest growing new Irish whiskeys on the market, growing 96% in volume over the past year1.

"RED.SET.GO." will be distributed digitally, socially and across TV nationwide beginning in mid-January 2019. As part of "RED.SET.GO.", RED BUSHwill launch a live music series in Summer 2019.
