Gray Wolf® Distilling Debuts New Solera Aged Rye Whiskey Amid Brand Refresh

Gray Wolf® Distilling Debuts New Solera Aged Rye Whiskey Amid Brand Refresh

SAINT MICHAELS, Md., Oct. 27, 2020 — Gray Wolf® Rye Whiskey, the first whiskey and namesake of Maryland's Gray Wolf® distilling company, is set for release on October 28th coinciding with a branding refresh, and timed as a celebration of the team's four year anniversary.

The launch of this first batch is a momentous occasion for the distillery which began its whiskey program in 2016. Gray Wolf has been resolute in its dedication to handcrafting spirits from scratch using premium raw ingredients. This whiskey is no exception. Mashed and distilled from 60% rye and 40% malted barley, Gray Wolf Rye Whiskey has been solera aged in a progression of three casks. It begins its development in new charred North American oak barrels. Successive maturation evolves in port wine casks then finishes in Appalachian grown white oak vats. The process, though labor intensive, adds more complexity and depth to the final spirit, according to co-founder and distiller, R.B. Wolfensberger.

"I wanted to make a rye, and like with everything I make, I wanted to be creative. I wanted to make something exceptional. The solera process intrigued me. By transferring our whiskey into different vessels during the maturation period, remarkable notes can be achieved," said Wolfensberger. The proof of this is evident with the signature peppery spice of the rye grain that is abundant yet balanced with the softness of the malt. Notes of maple cinnamon and vanilla commingle with a cherry undertone and hints of smoke.

The celebratory timing of this launch has extra significance for this up and coming distilling company. Budding upstarts, like Gray Wolf, have been more vulnerable to the tumult of 2020 than their more established peers. Having pivoted to making hand sanitizer in the early months of the pandemic, like many craft distilleries, this milestone was not assured. "My mantra has been pivot, adapt, move forward," said owner and co-founder Meghan Brown. "Elevating our branding at this time is designed to be a reset, reinvigorating our vision for the future. We are thrilled to be celebrating four years and are eager to progress," said Brown. Enhancements to the Gray Wolf logo and existing labels adds cohesion to the brand as it welcomes the new whiskey into the portfolio.

Batch 001 of Gray Wolf Rye Whiskey will be available beginning Wednesday, October 28, 2020 exclusively at the distillery in Saint Michaels and at participating Maryland farmers' markets. Orders online for pickup at the distillery or markets can be placed by visiting graywolfspirits.com.

Home delivery to Maryland residents is currently available beginning Monday, November 2, 2020. Future batches will be considered for wholesale depending on availability. The new label rollout for the already available spirits has begun in select stores throughout Maryland and Washington, DC.

About Maker's Mark® Bourbon
In 1953, in Loretto, Ky., Bill Samuels, Sr., fulfilled his dream to create a handmade and delicious bourbon. He decided to make his whisky in small batches, using soft red winter wheat to enhance the softness and sweetness. He then rotated each barrel by hand for consistency and, finally, aged each barrel to taste. Bill Samuels, Sr., transformed bourbon from a "commodity" into a premium handmade spirit, and today Maker's Mark® continues to make its bourbon the same way. In recent years, Maker's Mark has introduced thoughtful, super-premium innovations to its portfolio, including Maker's Mark 46®, Maker's Mark® Cask Strength and Maker's Mark® Private Selection, the brand's first-ever custom barrel program. Heaven's Door Spirits™ Announces Release of The Bootleg Series Vol II

Heaven's Door Spirits™ Announces Release of The Bootleg Series Vol II

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Oct. 27, 2020 Heaven's Door Spirits, which produces Bob Dylan's ever-evolving collection of American whiskeys, announced today the release of its Bootleg Series Vol II.

Named in tribute to Bob Dylan's famed series of eponymous retrospective album collections, The Bootleg Series is a limited-edition collection of rare whiskeys and special blends. With fewer than 3,000 bottles offered, the 2019 inaugural release of The Bootleg Series (Vol I), received The Chairman's Trophy and was named to the Top 100 Spirits at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2020 and sold out immediately upon release.

The 2020 Bootleg Series offering features a cask strength 15 year-old Straight Bourbon finished in 30 year-old Jamaican Pot Still Rum Casks. The Bootleg Series Vol II comes in a handmade ceramic bottle featuring Bob Dylan's painting, Sunset, Monument Valley, and is housed in an ornate leather journal that is individually numbered.

"The inaugural release of The Bootleg Series (Vol I) was a 26 year-old whiskey finished in Japanese Mizunara oak casks. It was a really special rare whiskey and set a high bar for future Bootleg releases," said Marc Bushala, CEO of Heaven's Door Spirits.

Heaven's Door Master Blender, Ryan Perry, rose to the challenge. "After nearly two years of experimentation with different blends and barrel finishes, we have created an incredible whiskey for the Bootleg Series Vol II" Perry said. "I was intrigued by the idea of using Jamaican pot still rum casks to imbue the 15 year-old cask strength whiskey with a soft, round and lasting finish that is distinctive and complex." After nearly a year in the rum barrels, the whiskey yielded "hints of maple syrup on the nose, notes of toasted coconut, holiday spice, and toasted oak on the finish," said Perry.

In addition to his renowned music career, Bob Dylan is also an accomplished painter and sculptor. The New York Times critic Marisha Pessl wrote, "He is that rare person who can move effortlessly between music, word, ink, paint… he reflects life back to us with a truth and simplicity that defy words". The painting that adorns Bootleg Series Vol II, Sunset, Monument Valley, was recently featured in Bob Dylan's Retrospectrum at the Modern Art Museum in Shanghi, China, along with more than 250 of Bob Dylan's artworks in an array of media.

With fewer than 3,000 bottles for sale at a suggested retail price of $499.99, Bootleg Series Vol II is now available for pre-order on ReserveBar.com, and will be available in select retailers in early November.

The Heaven's Door portfolio of award-winning whiskeys includes Straight Bourbon Whiskey (92 proof, $49.99 SRP), Double Barrel Whiskey (100 proof, $49.99 SRP), and Straight Rye Whiskey finished in cigar barrels from Vosges, France (92 proof, $79.99 SRP). Heaven's Door is the perfect melding of art and craft, as each bottle features co-creator Bob Dylan's unique ironwork sculptures.

Heaven's Door's portfolio of whiskeys is available nationwide and online via Reservebar.com/collections/heavens-door. For more information about the brand visit www.heavensdoor.com or engage with the brand on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter.

The Macallan Debuts the Largest Assembly of Vintage-Dated Single Malt Whiskies in the World with its Fine & Rare Collection and New Release: The 1993 Edition

The Macallan Debuts the Largest Assembly of Vintage-Dated Single Malt Whiskies in the World with its Fine & Rare Collection and New Release: The 1993 Edition

NEW YORK, Oct. 21, 2020 - With fifty-seven vintages, The Macallan Fine & Rare Collection marks its largest array since the inception of the collection twenty years ago. Today, The Macallan unveils the latest expression of this iconic collection: The 1993 Edition. The newest expression joins its storied predecessors, each completely individual but unmistakably The Macallan. Spanning eight decades from 1926 to 1993, each with a timeless story to share, the Fine & Rare Collection is the spirit of the Twentieth Century.

The Macallan Fine & Rare Collection stretches back to 1926 and continues to its newest 1993 release. As a collection, these bottlings provide a glimpse into the decades that marks their labels. Over the years, the Fine & Rare Collection has underpinned The Macallan as the one of the world's most valuable and collectible single malt whiskies, sweeping auctions around the world. Available in very limited quantities, the Collection's vintages come predominantly from single casks.

To capture the essence of the Fine & Rare Collection and the history of each decade from which they derive, one of the world's leading fashion photographers, Tim Walker, whose work has graced the pages of renowned publications for years, journeyed to The Macallan Estate on the banks of Scotland's River Spey.

For the 1993 Edition, Walker posed the bottle with a bird's nest, weathered twine, the handpiece of a clock, and flowers, among other details, against a backdrop of shadowed sky blue. The portrait is a love letter to the 1990s, which witnessed the coming of the Internet and the advent of the environmental movement, as well as to Speyside and the Highlands, and hints at the passage of time. Each vintage and according decade is uniquely represented through Walker's artistic lens.

"With fifty-seven vintages released over eight decades, the iconic Fine & Rare Collection is a culmination of the work by many men and women dating back to the early Twentieth Century," said David Cox, Former Director, The Macallan Fine & Rare. "We felt now was the time to look back to the introduction of this collection of old and rare whiskies, the likes of which had never been seen before, and to remind ourselves of what this historic collection represents, both now and for the future."

As architect and the Former Director of The Macallan Fine & Rare, David Cox provides a poetic look into the history and heritage of this unprecedented range of single malts in a film available on  themacallan.com. Shot at The Macallan Estate, the film journeys through time, to the soul of The Macallan, encompassing the spirit of the Fine & Rare Collection.

The Fine & Rare Collection is a true symbol of time honored craft and The Edition 1993 is no exception.

Matured in a single sherry seasoned American oak hogshead cask for 27 years, this exquisite single malt was distilled at a time in which concern for the planet was on the rise, but on The Macallan Estate this was nothing new. For nearly 200 years The Macallan has been intrinsically connected to nature and in 1993, as now, this single malt revelled in its natural home, beside the River Spey, in a peaceful, rural setting. With only 256 bottles available, the 1993 Edition joins a truly exquisite collection of single malts.

The Macallan 1993 Edition will be available globally starting October 21, 2020 for an SRP of $18,000. For purchasing inquiries, please email: Inquiries.us@themacallan.com. For further information or to view our digital Fine & Rare Guide, visit www.themacallan.com.

About The Macallan
Founded in 1824, The Macallan is one of the world's most admired and awarded single malt whiskies. The reputation of The Macallan is based on a product of outstanding quality and distinctive character. An obsession with excellence has been the hallmark of The Macallan since its founding, by Alexander Reid, on a plateau above the river Spey in north-east Scotland.

In 2018, The Macallan unveiled its new £140 million distillery and visitor experience on its Speyside estate, increasing investment in whisky, warehousing and in The Macallan's signature sherry-seasoned oak casks.  The striking contemporary architecture, cut into the slope of the land, takes its cues from ancient Scottish hills.  It stands nearby Easter Elchies House, the Highland Manor built in 1700 which has been The Macallan's spiritual home since 1824.  The new distillery marks an important milestone, recognising the significant journey of The Macallan since 1824 and marking an exciting new chapter in the evolution of the luxury single malt.
