LOUISVILLE, KY Barrell Craft Spirits (BCS), the original, pre-eminent independent blender of unique, aged, cask strength whiskey and rum, today introduced BCS Gold Label Dovetail. This limited edition and ultra-rare expression boasts the same award-winning blend of whiskey finished in rum, port and Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Barrels as its classic, iconic counterpart, which won the Chairman’s Trophy at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge and earned a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. BCS Gold Label Dovetail is created with the same finishing and blending method as Barrell Dovetail, but incorporates whiskeys aged up to 25 years, resulting in a more powerful and robust blend.
“Over the past several years, Dovetail has become a highly regarded expression within the BCS portfolio of products and the American Whiskey world”
Tweet this
“Over the past several years, Dovetail has become a highly regarded expression within the BCS portfolio of products and the American Whiskey world,” said BCS Founder Joe Beatrice. “Following the recent success of BCS Gray Label Dovetail, we decided to apply the concept of ‘Dovetail’ to our oldest, rarest stocks. We left these component whiskeys in their finishing casks even longer and included some very high proof barrels to create a blend with an intensity matched only by its nuance and layering.”
Founded in 2013 in Louisville, Kentucky, BCS selects and blends products that explore different distillation methods, barrels and aging environments, and bottles them at cask strength. BCS’s extensive stocks of high-quality casks mean they can craft extraordinary blends that maximize the nuances of each ingredient. Creative finishes, a liberated approach to blending, and a deep-seated commitment to releasing each whiskey at cask strength guides every product release.
BCS Gold Label Dovetail was distilled in IN, TN and Canada and bottled in Kentucky at 140.18 proof (70.09% ABV). The new expression is now available at select retailers within the brand’s current 49 U.S. markets and online via the BCS website at www.barrellbourbon.com. The suggested retail price for a 750ml bottle is $499.99.
In addition to BCS Gold Label Dovetail, Barrell Craft Spirits® offers multiple other special releases that highlight its blending expertise including: Barrell Seagrass, which won Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition; Barrell Armida, which earned Best Barrel-Aged Bourbon at the LA Spirits Awards; Barrell Vantage, a blend of straight bourbons finished in Mizunara, French and Toasted American Oak Casks; and the various other BCS Gold and Gray Label bottlings.

With Release of Limited-Edition Puncher’s Chance® Bourbon: The Left Cross, Wolf Spirit Doubles Down on Aging and Finishing Techniques
EUGENE, ORE. NOVEMBER 15, 2022 -Today, Wolf Spirit’s Puncher’s Chance® Bourbon announces its oldest whiskey to date with the release of Puncher’s Chance Bourbon: THE LEFT CROSS. Aged for 14 years in wood rickhouses, THE LEFT CROSS was finished in freshly dumped 12-year-old Jamaican rum casks for two to six months – an extremely rare finish for a bourbon at this maturity. The result is a balanced and nuanced spirit where the natural bourbon characteristics and the rum finishing co-exist beautifully.
Produced under the careful stewardship of Master Distiller Kevin Curtis and Master Blender Stephen Hughes of IJW Whiskey Company, just 70 barrels of Puncher’s Chance Bourbon: THE LEFT CROSS are available – making this a must have for collectors and connoisseurs. Bottled at 96 proof, The LEFT CROSS starts with a mash bill of 84 percent corn, eight percent malt and eight percent rye.
Aged in new American oak barrels, the whiskey picks up the flavors of a long-matured bourbon, including vanilla, dark fruit, and warm oak. The rum finishing enhances the sipping experience by introducing Jamaican rum’s famous and distinct “funk” – adding rich flavors of brown sugar, ripe bananas, and sweet baking spice reminiscent of Bananas Foster. The finish is long and soft with the slightest hints of rum lingering for a near eternity.
THE LEFT CROSS is the second limited-edition release from Puncher’s Chance – a new American Whiskey entry from Wolf Spirit, out of Eugene, Oregon. It comes on the heels of its first-ever limited time offering called The D12TANCE (January 2022) – a 12-year-old bourbon finished in California Cabernet Sauvignon barrels.
The brand name of Puncher’s Chance itself is a boxing reference, denoting that almost anyone is possible of a knockout punch, no matter the odds. Earlier this year, Puncher’s Chance inked a deal with the Professional Fighter’s League to bring its whiskey to the growing MMA community – while also proudly partnering with MMA legend Bruce Buffer and ESPN/New England Sports Network veteran Charlie Moore.
The name The LEFT CROSS is a reference to Jamaican heavyweight fighter Donovan “Razor” Ruddock, a southpaw who, with a devastating left cross punch, battled the likes of Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. The left cross finishing blow became Ruddock’s much-admired calling card.
“Like its predecessor THE D12TANCE, our journey with THE LEFT CROSS is about taking an older whiskey and experimenting with unique finishing techniques – in this case dark Jamaican Rum casks,” said Umberto Luchini, founder of Wolf Spirit. “Our objective was to use the rum finishing to coax out more of the existing characteristics from the whiskey while adding a unique hint of sweetness. It’s a special craft to finish such a mature bourbon, but the masters at IJW Distillery have done an exceptional job finding the right balance.”
With an SRP of $150 for a 750ml, only 2,000 bottles of Puncher’s Chance Bourbon: THE LEFT CROSS are available at fine spirits retailers and online, including in California, Florida, Kentucky, Colorado, Oklahoma and New Mexico (Southern Glazer’s); New York, Tennessee and Georgia (Empire); Massachusetts and Rhode Island (Atlantic Beverage); Missouri (Major Brands); Connecticut (Murphy); and Wisconsin (Badger/Frank), and through the Puncher’s Chance website, for a limited time only.

Blue Run Spirits Expands Rye Whiskey Portfolio with Release of Emerald Rye
Follow Up to Award-Winning Golden Rye is First Blue Run Rye Bottled at Barrel Proof
GEORGETOWN, KY. NOVEMBER 14, 2022 Blue Run Spirits announces the second release in its Rye Whiskey series – Blue Run Emerald Rye Whiskey. This marks the first Blue Run Rye Whiskey to be contract distilled by Blue Run Liquid Advisor Jim Rutledge at Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky and the first Blue Run Rye to be bottled at barrel proof. Blue Run Emerald Rye is now available at select retailers in the United States and online at BlueRunSpirits.com beginning at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Tuesday, November 15.
Blue Run Emerald Rye serves as the follow up to Blue Run Golden Rye Whiskey, a Gold Medal winner at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Emerald, a limited collection, was crafted from just 189 barrels and embraces the distinct, spicy characteristics of Rye Whiskey, yet with the approachability and depth of a fine Bourbon. Blue Run Whiskey Director Shaylyn Gammon expertly blended Emerald to highlight a myriad of Blue Run’s favorite flavor characteristics.
“This was an incredibly fun project to work on as I asked the Blue Run team what aspects of Rye Whiskey they truly loved,” said Gammon. “I then went about focusing my blend on those key attributes, zeroing in on fragrant herbs, fresh peppers, and robust spice. Those three prominent notes provide the foundation for a complex, deep flavor experience all the way through to the finish.”
Adding to the complexity, several Emerald barrels were aged at different locations more than fifty miles apart in Bardstown and Frankfort. The difference in aging environments helped contribute to the blend’s approachability at this high of proof. In addition, Shaylyn crafted Emerald with whiskies born from three different mash bills with varying degrees of the core grain of rye, creating a rich liquid palette for her to work with when applying her award-winning blending skills.
On the nose, Emerald Rye has dreamy butterscotch and creamy caramel leading to toasted oak and spicy peppers. The palate is awakened with a quick hit of buttercream and shishito peppers followed by a blast of apples and pears evolving into a woody sprinkling of cloves and rye spice. The finish will leave you with lasting memories of leather, oak, and brown butter.
Blue Run’s signature butterfly medallion on the bottle glimmers with anodized emerald green, making it easily identified by whiskey enthusiasts and collectors alike. Designed by renowned Nike sneaker designer and Blue Run cofounder Devon McKinney, Emerald is the second butterfly medallion in Blue Run’s Rye Whiskey series inspired by precious objects.
Blue Run Emerald is available for $109.99 SRP and is barrel proof at 116.7.
Blue Run Spirits can be purchased in California, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Texas (Republic National Distributing Company); Georgia (Savannah); South Carolina and Tennessee (Advintage); Delaware, Maryland and Washington, D.C. NEAREST GREEN DISTILLERY EXPANDS ITS PERMANENT WHISKEY PORTFOLIO WITH THREE NEW RELEASES
The Award-Winning Distillery Begins the Rollout with Launch of Uncle Nearest Straight Rye Whiskey
SHELBYVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 10, 2022 - Nearest Green Distillery, makers of the most-awarded American Whiskey or Bourbon of 2019, 2020, and 2021, has announced that it will add three permanent expressions to its national portfolio before the end of 2022: Uncle Nearest Straight Rye Whiskey, Uncle Nearest Single Barrel Black Label and Uncle Nearest Single Barrel Rye. Uncle Nearest Straight Rye, launched today, is the brand's first new whiskey available to purchase online and at retailers across the country since the 2019 release of its 1884 Small Batch Whiskey.
Uncle Nearest Straight Rye Whiskey furthers the brand's commitment to honoring its namesake, Nearest Green, by creating the highest quality whiskeys possible. The November 10 release follows the sold-out launch of the distillery exclusive Uncle Nearest Uncut/Unfiltered Rye Whiskey, which has already been met with rave reviews by critics and has received awards from top competitions including being named Best in Class at The Drinks Business & The Spirits Business Autumn Tasting. The 100-proof straight rye, hand-selected by four-time Master Blender of the Year and great-great-granddaughter of Nearest Green, Victoria Eady Butler, features a bold, decadent nose; a palate brimming with light vanilla cream, caramelized sugar, and the unmistakable spice of rye; complimented by a long, rich finish.
"It took us a while to release our 100-proof straight rye whiskey. If we were going to add rye to our lineup, it had to be worthy of all the accolades and awards our other whiskeys receive," said Master Blender Victoria Eady Butler. "My great-great-grandfather's legacy of excellence requires us to take our time to do things differently. I'm confident he would have been so proud of this straight rye whiskey."
Due to the challenges around growing rye in Tennessee, this whiskey originates in Canada – according to the exact American specifications required to be a straight rye whiskey – and is then aged in New York for a minimum of four years before moving down to Tennessee, where it is then rested in used Uncle Nearest barrels for additional maturation. The liquid is then tasted, barrel by barrel, and blended by Victoria.
"When I was doing my research on Nearest Green, I came across a handwritten letter from President William Taft," said Fawn Weaver, founder and CEO of Uncle Nearest. "The letter was dated May 16, 1911, and was addressed to his U.S. Secretary of War, Jacob M. Dickinson, thanking him for sending his favorite rye whiskey 'of the Lincoln County variety.' This letter led me to believe rye whiskeys were being made in this area, so after I found that letter there was no doubt in my mind a straight rye whiskey would one day be added to our portfolio of whiskeys."
Uncle Nearest Straight Rye Whiskey will be available to purchase for $59 at Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville, Tennessee, starting today. It will also be available online and will be rolling out nationally throughout November. The whiskey will be followed by the release of Uncle Nearest Single Barrel Black Label ($79) on Black Friday, November 25, and Uncle Nearest Single Barrel Rye ($89) on December 15.
These rollouts are part of the brand's '12 Weeks of Christmas' which includes special promotions for Uncle Nearest fans such as bottle signings at the distillery, and limited time offerings like the Legacy Collection Ultimate Gift Set containing all seven Uncle Nearest whiskeys, available to purchase at the distillery the weekend of December 22. Following the launch of the Single Barrel Black Label at Nearest Green Distillery, it will be solely available at the distillery and on Reservebar.com starting on Monday, November 28 through the first half of 2023. The Single Barrel Rye will follow suit.

Maker's Mark® Bourbon Announces Wood Finishing City Series, A Global Travel Retail Innovation
New Offerings Capture the Character, Essence and Experience of The World's Most Enchanting Cities – Beginning in 2022 with New York City and Sydney
LORETTO, Ky., Nov. 8, 2022 Maker's Mark® has today introduced two new Global Travel Retail (GTR) exclusive whiskies to mark its newest Wood Finishing Series – the City Series – capturing the character of the world's most enchanting locations for whisky fans traveling the globe. Launching with New York City and Sydney, new limited-edition city releases will be added over the multi-year series.
Maker's Mark knows that to truly experience a city, you have to know its insiders. To kick off this series, Maker's recruited aesthetes and tastemakers who became our city spirit guides. With every Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series whisky, there's an established taste vision, or flavor goal, in mind. Here, the liquid is meant to evoke the essence and nuances of the place they live and love – all through bourbon.
New York Edition
A first trip to New York City promises to be unforgettable. The taste vision for the New York Edition was created with the goal of capturing the excitement of your first trip to the city that never sleeps. Flavor experts Erina Yoshida and Justin Ottevanger created a whisky that is big, bold and complex, with layers of spice, oak and rich dark chocolate. At 107.8 proof, the limited-edition bourbon has a long finish … nearly as long as its namesake city's iconic skyline.
Sydney Edition
With the help of Sydney insiders Sam Egerton and Jordan Toft, this herbaceous expression of Maker's Mark pays homage to the vibrant people, culture and dynamic palate of the city. Meant to be enjoyed outdoors, the 110.8 proof spirit is ripe and fruit-forward.
The New York and Sydney Editions are the first two in a limited series of handcrafted Maker's expressions which honor the unique taste profiles of cities around the world. It is the result of more than a decade of wood-science expertise, exploring the influence of oak and agriculture on bourbon's wide-ranging taste profiles. The Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series celebrates the inherent uniqueness of different wood types, celebrating individuality through flavor, just as each city's unique, signature whisky now does.
"It's incredibly rewarding to bring a taste of our distillery in Loretto, Kentucky to the Global Travel Retail market through the new City Series," said Rob Samuels, Chief Distillery Officer at Maker's Mark and Grandson of the Founders. "Just as my grandparents sat down with a taste vision in mind when creating Maker's Mark, partnering with Erina and Justin in New York and Sam and Jordan in Sydney to create bourbons that embodied their cities resulted in delicious new whiskies that are a true adventure of their own."
Both the Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series New York and Sydney Editions are now available Global Travel Retail. The New York Edition is sold at John F. Kennedy Airport Terminal 1 for a SRP of $95 USD and the Sydney Edition is available at Sydney Terminal 1 for a SRP of $140 AUD. Each terminal has curated Maker's Mark boutiques to sell the new whiskies with various experiential components such as screen-printing for travelers to enjoy. The stunning designs play homage to each city and the handcrafted nature of Maker's Mark Bourbon.
About Maker's Mark® Bourbon
In 1953, in Loretto, Ky., Bill Samuels, Sr., fulfilled his dream to create a handmade and delicious bourbon. He decided to make his whisky in small batches, using soft red winter wheat to enhance the softness and sweetness. He then rotated each barrel by hand for consistency and, finally, aged each barrel to taste. While he developed the bourbon, his wife Margie Samuels ideated the bourbon's name and label, standout bottle shape, iconic and signature look that still involves hand-dipping each bottle in red wax to this day. Together as co-founders, Bill and Margie transformed bourbon from a "commodity" into a premium handmade spirit, and today Maker's Mark® Kentucky Straight Bourbon continues to be crafted in the same, purposeful way. In recent years, Maker's Mark has introduced thoughtful, super-premium innovations to its portfolio, including Maker's Mark®, Maker's Mark 46® Maker's Mark® Cask Strength and Maker's Mark® Private Selection, the industry's first-ever custom barrel program. Today, Maker's Mark is the largest distillery in the world to achieve B Corp Certification, a reflection of the brand's dedication towards building a more inclusive and sustainable economy.
