Old Forester 21st Release of Annual Birthday Bourbon

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 24, 2021 - The highly anticipated release of Old Forester's Birthday Bourbon will be available on September 2, the birthday of Old Forester's founder George Garvin Brown.

This year marks Old Forester's 151st anniversary, making it the only bourbon brand with an uninterrupted history, sold by the same family company before, during and after Prohibition.

Old Forester Celebrates Founder George Garvin Brown’s Birthday with 21st Iteration of Birthday Bourbon on September 2

"Birthday Bourbon is a special release that not only commemorates the memory of George Garvin Brown, but also celebrates the legacy that he built which continues to live on," said Master Taster Jackie Zykan. Notes:

Color: Golden Citrine

Aroma: A beautiful symphony of berry and dessert components. Red raspberry preserves join plump, juicy blackberries and dried strawberries to set the tone, nestled in a bed of dried herbs and balanced with vanilla crème brulee, subtle pecan, rich maple syrup, and cocoa.

Taste: Rich and inviting, the velvety mouthfeel carries notes of buttery caramel, burnt sugar, and a touch of fresh baked Linzer cookie. This silky palate quickly awakens into a bright, peppery, peripheral spice.

Finish: Lengthy and warm with subtle dryness. Subdued notes of chocolate, raisin and cool herbs linger in the shadow of stark oak spice.

The Sexton Single Malt Named as the Official Whiskey of The Walking Dead and Launches Year-Long, Final Season Partnership

NEW YORK, Aug. 19, 2021 - America's best-selling Irish malt, The Sexton® Single Malt, announces its designation as The Official Whiskey of AMC Networks' groundbreaking series, The Walking Dead, with a multi-channel partnership through late 2022. In the wake of the highly anticipated final season, The Sexton Single Malt and AMC Networks will partner together for all three installments of the final season, exciting fans with a series of custom retail offerings, cocktail experiences and exclusive behind-the-scenes content all inspired by the whiskey's mantra, "celebrate life".

The Sexton Single Malt will debut a rich, cinematic campaign spot to air during each of the eight episodes within The Walking Dead's first of three season installments. Produced by creative agency Dead As We Know It and directed by Jake Scott of RSA Films, the spot portrays the brevity of human existence with a message for viewers to treat themselves to the things that bring them joy. An amusing juxtaposition to the dark, dismal realities of life depicted in The Walking Dead, The Sexton Single Malt reminds fans to relish the joys of living - one of those joys being the smooth, sherry cask-aged single malt crafted from Irish malted barley.

To extend the partnership, The Sexton Single Malt and AMC Networks have launched a national retail program during which, after purchasing a bottle of The Sexton Single Malt, fans can "unlock" exclusive series content from The Walking Dead, featuring the likes of beloved cast members Norman Reedus and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The Walking Dead enthusiasts can also expect an array of co-branded social and digital content, along with a variety of "merch" discount codes to enjoy.

"A season-long partnership like this gives us so many meaningful opportunities to interact with and excite fans of The Walking Dead," said Kim Granito, Executive Vice President of The Content Room for AMC Networks. "The Sexton Single Malt is a brand that is perfectly aligned with the spirit and escapism of this series, and we're excited to collaborate across all 24 of these final episodes in a variety of ways that delight this highly engaged and vibrant fan community."

To celebrate the partnership with The Walking Dead fanatics, The Sexton Single Malt is teaming with the nation's leading cocktail delivery service, Cocktail Courier, to launch "The Walking Dead Cocktail Kit." Designed with at-home watch parties in mind, the kit will feature the recipe and ingredients for eight serves of the Live for Today, a cocktail that marries the bitter bite of an aperitif liqueur, the boldness of grapefruit and blood orange, and the approachable complexity of The Sexton Single Malt. Also included is a variety of custom, co-branded The Walking Dead merchandise and the opportunity for recipients to access exclusive series content. Fans can purchase the kit for $64.99 starting Sunday, August 22nd at CocktailCourier.com until supplies run out.

"The Sexton Single Malt and The Walking Dead share a fanbase that values a life well-lived. Our motto, "You have a single life. Drink a single malt" encapsulates that spirit," said Lander Otegui, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Proximo Spirits. "As The Official Whiskey of The Walking Dead, we are excited to connect with the show's monumental and loyal followers over the highly anticipated final season, and offer them fan-focused experiences and limited-edition retail merchandise unique to our partnership."

Beginning early next year, The Walking Dead whiskey lovers can also look forward to the rollout of a limited edition, co-branded bottle, recipes and consumer contests, which will be announced on The Walking Dead social pages. Until then, The Sexton Single Malt invites fans to toast the final season with a dram of The Sexton Single Malt and the "The Walking Dead Cocktail Kit" available from Cocktail Courier.

A Whiskey Is Born In Manhattan: Great Jones Distilling Co. Opens In NoHo, Manhattan's First And Only Legal Whiskey Distillery Since Prohibition

A Whiskey Is Born In Manhattan: Great Jones Distilling Co. Opens In NoHo, Manhattan's First And Only Legal Whiskey Distillery Since Prohibition

NEW YORK, Aug. 18, 2021-- For more than 100 years, no whiskey distillery has called Manhattan its home. That changes this summer as Great Jones Distilling Co., Manhattan's first and only legal whiskey distillery since Prohibition, opens its doors in NoHo.

Akin to other New York City architectural projects, Great Jones Distilling Co. is a feat of ingenuity. The six-year construction journey has overcome rigid city regulations, centuries-old fire codes and a global pandemic to deliver a new spirit to the city and give New Yorkers their own whiskey distillery. The result is now a 28,000 square-foot space located at 686 Broadway, which encompasses a custom-built and engineered distillery where people can enjoy distillery tours and tasting experiences starting Saturday, August 21, as well as a restaurant, speakeasy and event venue, which will open starting in September.

Great Jones Distilling Co. was founded by Proximo Spirits and the passionate vision of owner and 11th generation spirits maker Juan Domingo Beckmann. The idea was born from the belief that the best spirits should be the embodiment of their origins, threading the history of bourbon in New York to the present day. To celebrate the best that New York has to offer, the whiskies are made exclusively with grains grown in the rich ebony soil of the Black Dirt region less than two hours north of Manhattan in Upstate New York. Great Jones whiskies are smooth, balanced and complex with a distinctive spiciness characteristic of the New York-grown grains from which they are made. More spice, less sweet – more New York.

"The opening of Great Jones Distilling Co. represents a landmark moment for spirits and New York City history, bringing the craft of whiskey distillation back to Manhattan after 100 years," said Juan Domingo Beckmann, Founder of Great Jones Distilling Co. and Proximo Spirits. "For 11 generations my family has crafted some of the world's leading spirits, and we are proud to introduce a bourbon that truly embodies the best of New York State ingredients and the 'lightning in a bottle' energy of Manhattan. The Great Jones Distillery will give the city a new spirits legacy, and is dedicated to the resiliency and hustle that New Yorkers have shown to the world over this past year."

With the opening of Great Jones Distilling Co. comes the introduction of three new whiskies: Great Jones Straight Bourbon, Great Jones Four Grain Bourbon and Great Jones Rye Whiskey. The three signature liquids are made from 100% New York-sourced grain, and have been aging for the past five years in new charred American oak barrels in upstate New York in preparation for the distillery opening.

The building of the expansive distillery space, designed in partnership with Groundswell Design Group, conquered many unique challenges. Located in an area of the city with a rich history from the Prohibition era, the 82-year-old building had to be reinforced deep below ground to support the custom combination copper pot still with two columns housed on the second floor, navigating the subway system that runs below the building. During the renovation, a secret tunnel was discovered, thought to be used to transport whiskey and other spirits under the streets of New York. This tunnel now runs directly behind the speakeasy set to open this fall.

"As New York City enters a new era of hospitality and entertainment, the experience at Great Jones Distilling Co. brings renewed energy and employment opportunities to the NoHo neighborhood," said Mike Keyes, President & Chief Executive Officer of Proximo Spirits. "Great Jones Distilling Co. will create more than 100 new jobs, supporting the much needed recovery and resurgence of the hospitality industry. We look forward to opening our doors this summer to New Yorkers and tourists looking for unique ways to enjoy time together again," continued Keyes.

At Great Jones Distilling Co., visitors will be able to enjoy:

  • Distillery tours and guided whiskey tastings and experiences.
  • The Restaurant at Great Jones (opening in September): helmed by Executive Chef Adam Raksin, a refined yet approachable culinary experience offering a contemporary menu focused on locally sourced New York ingredients.
  • The Speakeasy: This intimate underground speakeasy spot will offer a restaurant and exclusive tasting menu.
  • The Lounge: An exclusive enclave for guests as well as private events.
  • The Shop: The three signature spirits and a curated selection of Great Jones merchandise from New York-based makers and beyond will be available for purchase.

Great Jones Distilling Co. will be open every Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 10:00 p.m., starting August 21.  Please check the website www.greatjonesdistillingco.com for timeframe updates. Distillery tours will be offered for those 21+ and are available for booking at https://greatjonesdistillingco.com/book-your-visit/.

For private event inquiries, please email events@greatjonesdistillingco.com. For more information, follow the conversation on social media at @greatjonesdistillingco.

Andalusia Whiskey Co. Releases New Single Malt with Texas Grown Grain

image

Andalusia Whiskey Co. is releasing their first whiskey using Texas grown barley malted by TexMalt in Fort Worth.

99% of craft beer and malt whiskey produced in Texas is brewed with grain that's not from Texas. While barley can be farmed in this state, malting is a separate step performed by large facilities traditionally found in Northern states. In the last 5 years, several small maltsters have opened in Texas that process malted barley grown in the Panhandle near Amarillo and the farms near Palo Duro Canyon.

Palo Duro Single Malt Whiskey by Andalusia Whiskey Co will be an annual release made 100% with Texas grown and malted barley. Each annual release will showcase a different Texas malster and whiskey style.

2021 marks the first release of the Palo Duro Single Malt Whiskey made with barley that is grown in the Texas High Plains, malted by TexMalt, Fort Worth, TX, and smoked with peachwood from Pink Tractor Farms, Blanco,TX. “We are excited to showcase a whiskey that has undergone the entire process in Texas.” said co-founder Ty Phelps.

Andalusia Whiskey Co. mashed & Distilled in 2018 then the whiskey aged 3 years in New #4 char American oak barrels. This unique whiskey will be bottled at 100 proof (50%ABV). It will be sold in a full bottle (750 ml) at $69 per bottle. Limited Availability.

The Palo Duro Single Malt Whiskey will be available for purchase at the distillery or online. Online sales must be picked up at the distillery located at 6462 N US Hwy 281, Blanco, Texas 78606. Whiskey cannot be shipped. Also, you are allowed to pick up two bottles per person per 30 days.

Follow Andalusia Whiskey Co. on Facebook for updates on tours, tasting room hours, and special releases. You can find Andalusia’s award-winning single malts Stryker, Revenant Oak, and their Triple Distilled whiskey at liquor stores throughout Texas.

Eighth Generation Beam Distiller Freddie Noe Releases Fifth Chapter Of Little Book® Whiskey Series - "The Invitation"

Eighth Generation Beam Distiller Freddie Noe Releases Fifth Chapter Of Little Book® Whiskey Series - "The Invitation

CLERMONT, Ky., Aug. 12, 2021- Freddie Noe, eighth generation Beam distiller and creator of Little Book® Whiskey, is proud to announce the fifth installment in his acclaimed annual, limited-release series of blends – Little Book Chapter 5: "The Invitation."

The name of this year's chapter is both a prompt to fans of American whiskey to expand their palettes, as well as a reflection on Noe's experience blending and innovating chapters of Little Book over the last five years. With a wide range of whiskey styles and ages in this year's release – including two highly unique, younger whiskies anchoring the blend – "The Invitation" showcases Noe's passion and deftness for elevating facets of each component within the final product, delivering complex, balanced and high-quality blended whiskies.

"Chapter 5 is my way of inviting whiskey drinkers into different aspects of the category, regardless of whether they've been along for the ride since Chapter 1 or are just tasting Little Book for the first time," Freddie Noe said. "'The Invitation' offers a chance for any curious drinker to expand their palette - whether they're a seasoned connoisseur or a newcomer to the category - due to the diverse liquids contained in the blend. Harmonizing such varied whiskies and ages was a delicate dance, but the effort was certainly worth it when you taste the final product."

Little Book Chapter 5 is a blend of four different straight whiskies, three of which were distilled under Freddie's watchful eye. Each was expertly blended to bring something unique to the final whiskey, making Little Book Chapter 5 greater than the sum of its individual parts:

  • A 2-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon distilled and barreled at a lower proof than normal creates a complexity not often experienced in a young whiskey. This prominent component delivers a sweet grain flavor and creamy mouthfeel to the fifth installment of the Little Book series that serves to balance the stronger oak flavors from older whiskies in the blend.
  • A 3-Year-Old Malted 100% Rye never before released from the Beam distillery shows the true depth and potential of American Whiskey. It brings smoky, peppery notes to the final blend not traditionally common in rye whiskey.
  • A 5-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon brings in hints of vanilla and corn sweetness on the nose and a smooth finish, balancing the flavors from the younger whiskies and the extra aged bourbon.
  • Finally, a 15-Year-Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon delivers heavier barrel flavors to the blend, adding a deep complexity and characteristics that can only be achieved through extended time spent aging in a Kentucky rackhouse.

"While younger whiskies – which make up the base of this blend – often carry certain preconceived notions, the 2-Year-Old Bourbon and 3-Year-Old 100% Malted Rye have strong characteristics because of the way they were crafted, and they play a purposeful role in providing complex flavor and balance to this year's Little Book release," Noe explained.  "In the spirit of what the Little Book series is all about, I was excited to push the boundaries of what we typically expect from whiskey. I invite whiskey fans to do the same when they taste this year's blend."

Little Book® "The Invitation" was developed by Freddie Noe with the following characteristics:

  • Proof: 116.8
  • Tasting Notes: Little Book "The Invitation" features flavors of caramel and toasted bread with brown sugar undertones and a touch of sweetness.
  • Sipping Suggestions: Little Book "The Invitation" is best enjoyed neat or over ice.

"The Invitation" will be available nationwide in limited quantities beginning in August 2021 with a Suggested Retail Price of $124.99 for a 750mL bottle.  Additionally, Little Book Chapter 5, as well as a very special, limited few cases of Little Book Chapter 1 "The Easy," will be the inaugural products featured in the James B. Beam Distilling Company's new direct-to-consumer quarterly membership program, called Barreled & Boxed. With a very limited number of memberships becoming available on August 25, Barreled & Boxed will offer fans of American whiskey the opportunity to purchase  and receive coveted whiskies, specialty liquids and new-to-market innovations straight to their door, eliminating the need to hunt for hard-to-find bottlings such as Little Book. In its introductory launch phase, memberships will be limited to Kentucky and Washington D.C. only, and more information is available via www.beamdistilling.com/barreled-and-boxed.

Release of Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon After A Three Year Hiatus

Release of Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon After A Three Year Hiatus

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 17, 2021-- Louisville-based Michter's Distillery will begin shipping its 2021 bottling of its Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon in September. This will mark the first release of the whiskey since August 2018.

"We first launched our groundbreaking US*1 Toasted Barrel Bourbon in 2014, and we followed up with releases in 2015 and 2018. While we continue to experience whiskey shortages at Michter's, we decided to use some of our bourbon stocks for this toasted offering so our loyal Michter's supporters could enjoy it," said Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco.

"At Michter's we do a lot of experimentation as we pursue our goal of making the greatest American whiskey. The innovative work that our production team is undertaking on toasted barrel finishing is delivering remarkable results," commented Dan McKee, Michter's Master Distiller. To make this special Toasted release, Michter's starts with fully matured barrels of its US*1 Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon and transfers the whiskey into a second barrel made of 18-month air dried wood for additional aging. The second barrel has been toasted to precise specifications, but not charred.

Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson establishes the protocol for the toasting of the barrels and for the subsequent aging of Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Bourbon. In speaking of the 2021 release, Wilson said, "This year's release is exceptionally balanced and is the perfect complement for the fall and holiday season." The suggested retail price for a 750ml bottle of Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon is $100.

Recently Michter's expanded its Farm and Operations in Springfield, Kentucky to 205 acres when it purchased an additional 60 acres.  It is there that Michter's is growing estate grown grain that it is currently distilling with. Additionally, Michter's has two distilleries, both in Louisville: its main distillery Michter's Shively and its Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery.

Located on West Main Street opposite Louisville Slugger and on the same block as the Frazier Museum, Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery features the legendary pot still system from Michter's Pennsylvania Distillery. When open, it also has educational tours with whiskey tastings as well as The Bar at Fort Nelson, which features classic cocktails curated by spirits and cocktail historian David Wondrich.

Michter's makes highly acclaimed, limited production whiskeys that are subject to allocation because demand has exceeded supply. Michter's is renowned for its small batch bourbon, single barrel bourbon, small batch sour mash whiskey, single barrel rye, and small batch American whiskey.  In January 2021, Michter's was named the #1 Top Trending American Whiskey brand by Drinks International's Annual Brands Report.
