Months After Being Named The 2023 World's Most Admired Whiskey, Michter's Is Releasing Its 10 Year Bourbon


LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 26, 2024-- This April, Louisville based Michter's Distillery will begin releasing its 10 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

"Our team was humbled and deeply grateful when a few months ago Michter's became the first American whiskey to be named the World's Most Admired Whiskey," stated Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. "Our production team has always given tremendous consideration to what they feel is ready to release, but after this honor, the stakes seem even higher."

The ultimate gatekeepers for any release of Michter's are Dan McKee, Master Distiller, and Andrea Wilson, Master of Maturation. Commenting on the 2024 release of Michter's 10 Year Bourbon, McKee stated, "This a wonderful single barrel whiskey. It's brimming with all the characteristics that I look for in a special bourbon." Wilson and the Michter's production team spent a good deal of time selecting the barrels for this year's bottling. "We know that Michter's fans everywhere look forward to our 10 Year Bourbon. We are excited to share the 2024 release, which again is overaged to a beautiful maturity with an excellent nose, creamy texture and an array of characteristics on the palate, that ascend through to the finish, making every drop an enjoyable moment," observed Wilson.

Michter's 10 Year Bourbon has a suggested retail price of $185 per 750ml bottle in the United States.

In late October 2023, the UK based publication Drinks International announced the results of a poll of an Academy of independent global whisky experts, journalists, bartenders, and drinks buyers from more than 20 countries. For the first time ever, an American whiskey (Michter's) was voted the World's Most Admired Whiskey.

Distilleries typically require a minimum order of more than 100 barrels for such a service, but given our distillery relationships, we’re able to bring that minimum number down to a more palatable 10 barrels,” said Barrel Global Founder George Koutsakis.

A fully customizable itinerary awaits, as guests arrive in Kentucky for a three-day “once in a lifetime” bourbon-making adventure under the careful guidance and curation of an esteemed bourbon distiller. During the deep dive into bourbon-making, retreat attendees receive a tutorial in the art, science, excitement of distillation and barreling – which starts with selecting a mashbill to create a taste profile suited to your palate, tasting the new mash and the distillate, and making the correct cut between heads, hearts and tails before proofing the liquid. Under the watchful eye of the head distiller, guests return to the distillery on their final day in Kentucky to fill their own barrels with distillate, seal them, check for leaks, and finally roll them into the rickhouse.

Once the barrels are proofed, the distillery partner stores them for the required aging in their on-site warehouses until they are at the desired maturation and ready for bottling. Although bourbon is notoriously a waiting game, the owners of these newly-minted barrels may determine their future use – from personal consumption and corporate gifting to launching their own mini bourbon brand or reselling the barrels on the open market.

“Bourbon distilling has captivated a global audience, and this experience allows retreat attendees to step into the highly coveted role of “distiller” for a day under the careful tutelage of a highly trained distilling expert while respecting the traditions, legacies, and expertise that these notable craftspeople bring to the industry,” Koutsakis continued.

Pricing for this group-centric activity is $35,000 dependent on group size and barrel yield, which includes 10 newly-distilled bourbon barrels with a completely bespoke mashbill, full participation in the distilling process – from mashing and fermentation to distilling and barreling, hotel accommodations, dinner, and a comprehensive bourbon tasting. Additional guests may be added for an incremental cost.

Penelope Bourbon returns to Rio


Limited-release straight bourbon whiskey features double

ROSELLE, N.J., March 18, 2024 - Looking for a carnival in a bottle? Penelope Rio is set to deliver. Arriving on shelf in March, Penelope Rio will be available at a suggested retail price of $89.99 per 750-ml bottle. This year's installment will have a limited allocation of 5,000 (6-in) cases.

Inspired by the joy of Brazil, Rio delights the senses with a double cask finish of American honey and Amburana, a Brazilian hardwood. The two finishes combine to deliver a rich and sweet experience with surprising depth.

"Our latest Rio release is a party in a bottle – the finishes complement each other so well, resulting in a fun and surprising mix of flavors," said Michael Paladini, founder of Penelope Bourbon. "This year's release delivers a dessert sweetness combined with a nice baking spice on the finish. It's a fantastic and different combination of rich and sweet, with depth."

The bourbon features an aroma of sweet honey coupled with notes of cinnamon rolls; a rich body with notes of gingerbread, honey, nectar and baking spice; and a savory finish highlighted by subtle notes of honey and spice. Bottled at 98 proof, Rio's blended four-grain mash bill consists of 74% corn, 16% wheat, 7% rye and 3% malted barley.

Celebrates first release under Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 6, 2024 - Old Forester® today releases High Angels' Share, an expression from its celebrated 117 series. 

This limited-edition whiskey is the result of low-yield barrels, providing consumers with a taste of this specific facet of the aging process, and resulting in a rich, layered concentration.

Bottled at 110 proof (55% ABV) in a 375 ml bottle, the expression is full-bodied with dark flavor notes, dried fruits and herbaceous qualities.

"When walking into our aging warehouses, the aroma of evaporating whiskey is immediately evident," said Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo. "That smell is commonly called Angels' Share – the angels taking their portion of the bourbon. Barrels with high evaporation concentrate flavors. We are pleased to bring those flavors directly to consumers through this unique bottle."

High Angels' Share is from The 117 Series, a limited-expression lineup that debuted in Spring 2021. Old Forester releases three different 117 expressions annually. It will be offered in very limited quantities for purchase today at the Old Forester Distillery at $59.99 per bottle and will be available in our online store in a two-bottle set for $119.98.  Guests visiting the distillery for tours between now and March 20 will have the opportunity to sample High Angels' Share and purchase a bottle, under the distillery's special release policy. It will also be available at select Kentucky retailers.

This release is the first since Trigo was named Assistant Master Distiller in February 2024.

To celebrate that milestone, Trigo will meet consumers at Old Forester Distillery on March 6 and lead special tastings of High Angels' Share. The distillery will be celebrating with pastries and coffee from one of Trigo's favorite local bakeries.

On February 29, Crown Royal kicked off the rodeo festivities with Houston native, Bun B, and hosted "Hats Off to Houston," an intimate dinner attended by the city's tastemakers and fashion trendsetters. The celebration raised a glass to the Houston legend and the local artistry that is at the heart of Houston's rich culture.

Rooted in its ethos of generosity, Crown Royal will donate up to $20,000 to Magpies and Peacocks, tipping its hat to the nation's only 501 (c)3 non-profit design house dedicated to the collection and sustainable reuse of post consumer clothing, throughout Black Heritage Day weekend and Go Tejano Day weekend. Their sustainability efforts will show up through various moments at the Saloon & Showroom, with one of a kind reimagined Crown Royal purple bag hat bands as well as a visual merchandise display showcasing the rising popularity of western wear.
