NEAREST & JACK ADVANCEMENT INITIATIVE'S SPIRITS ON THE RISE SUMMIT RETURNS TO MIDDLE TENNESSEE


Applications Are Now Open for the Event Taking Place from April 15-16, 2024

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. and SHELBYVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 30, 2024 - Today, the Nearest & Jack Advancement Initiative (NJAI), the first-of-its-kind incubator created by Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey and Jack Daniel's Tennessee Whiskey to diversify the current and future leaders in the spirits industry, announced the return of the Spirits on the Rise Summit. The two-day event, taking place in Lynchburg and Shelbyville, Tennessee on April 15 and 16, 2024, will build upon the success of last year's summit with more speakers, more networking, and more opportunities for BIPOC businessmen and businesswomen in spirits to learn from panelists and keynote speakers who are experts in their fields.

The Spirits on the Rise Summit began in 2023 to bring together experienced spirits and hospitality industry professionals with entrepreneurs from historically underrepresented communities as they work to advance their spirits businesses. Last year, attendees representing more than 50 up-and-coming brands heard from and made connections with executives from some of the nation's top beverage and hospitality companies such as Brown-Forman, Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, Hyatt Hotels, ReserveBar, and Breakthru Beverage Group, as well as key personnel from leading financial institutions such as JP Morgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Collective Equity Partners, LLC and more.

"Our inaugural event in 2023 was the first-of-its-kind, and everyone who attended came to Tennessee with so much positive energy and an openness to learn," said Katharine Jerkens, Chief Business Officer of Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey. "The number of connections made between entrepreneurs, given the platform to share their stories, was a true highlight - not to mention the connections with investors and industry veterans. Programming for the 2024 Spirits on the Rise Summit will take place at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee on April 15, and at the Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville, Tennessee on April 16. Highlights will include engaging workshops and panels on topics like revenue growth management, distributor management, public relations, funding, route to market and shopper marketing. The summit will once again conclude with the emerging brands fair where founders will have an opportunity to showcase their product offerings to their peers, industry leaders and investors. Two presenting brands last year – Mission Craft Cocktails and Blackleaf Organic Vodka – were discovered and selected as the newest participants in the NJAI Business Incubation Program.

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 29, 2024 - Old Forester Bourbon has introduced a specialty cocktail featured in Matthew Vaughn's new razor-witted, reality-bending, globe-encircling spy thriller Argylle, which debuts in theaters nationwide on February 2nd.

A twist on the classic Whiskey Sour, the "Whisker Sour" is crafted with Old Forester Statesman Bourbon Whiskey, Cointreau, and lemonade, topped with club soda and a dash of Angostura bitters. The cocktail's name is a nod to cat Alfie, the feline featured prominently in the film from Matthew Vaughn. Vaughn was the director of the Kingsman Series, for which Old Forester Statesman was created.

DALLAS, Jan. 24, 2024  Combining premium Canadian whisky, cinnamon, and chili, Thunder Bitch is an exciting new and irreverent whisky liqueur that will make its U.S. debut next month at Guy Fieri's annual Flavortown Tailgate party during big game Sunday in Las Vegas, February 11.

Thunder Bitch traces its origins back 150 years to Thunder Bay, Ontario, on the U.S. Canadian border where Canadian whisky was often smuggled across Lake Superior during Prohibition. To help combat the practice, U.S. border control employed specially trained female dogs, or "bitches," to sniff out and detect the contraband whisky. But smugglers got wise and began to hide the whisky in stacks of cinnamon and chili, which in turn inspired a new spirit, blending that whisky with the cinnamon and chili. The new product was aptly called Thunder Bitch, named after Thunder Bay and in honor of those friendly hard-working canines.

"The name says it all. Thunder Bitch is truly a unique, fun, and intense experience. Old Forester® Debuts 1924: The Newest Expression in the Whiskey Row Series; a 10-year-old Bourbon and a New Mash Bill


LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 17, 2024 - Today, Old Forester® announces the newest release in its coveted and award-winning Whiskey Row Series – 1924. This 10-year-old age-stated bourbon is 100 proof and comprises a new mash bill for the brand.

Available nationwide, this marks the fifth installment in the Whiskey Row Series. Rather than the traditional Old Forester recipe (72% corn; 18% rye and 10% malted barley), 1924 debuts a new mash bill (79% corn; 11% rye and 10% malted barley).

The bottle marks an important point in Old Forester's 153-year history.

During Prohibition, more than 200 distilleries in Kentucky alone were forced to close. Old Forester, however, continued operations because the federal government issued it one of six permits to bottle existing whiskey stocks as medicine. In 1924, Old Forester acquired barrels from closed distillers, with different mash bills, and bottled that liquid as Old Forester. This special release commemorates that moment in time.

This release honors the 100th anniversary of that whiskey innovation. Old Forester is the only bourbon brand produced before, during and after Prohibition.

Staghorn Opens Largest All-New Independent Distillery in Kentucky: Garrard County Distilling Co.


Fast-Growing Spirits Company Founded by Industry Veteran Ray Franklin

ATLANTA (January 17, 2024) – Atlanta-based premium spirits company Staghorn is pleased to announce the opening of its first distillery, Garrard County Distilling Co., which has officially begun production in Lancaster, KY. With its towering dual 45 feet tall 36” Vendome Copper and Brass Works column stills, Garrard County Distilling Co. is the largest all-new independent distillery in Kentucky. The $250+ million project is capable of producing up to 8.5 million proof gallons or 150,000 barrels of whiskey a year, while supporting the local economy with more than 60+ new jobs. This is the first commercial distillery in the formerly dry county since the 1800s.

Located 30 minutes south of Lexington, the 210-acre site includes the 50,000+ sq ft distillery, as well as two 20,000 sq ft rickhouses, with plans for a total of 24 aging warehouses by 2030, each holding nearly 25,000 barrels. A visitor center with tasting room and restaurant is scheduled to open by the end of this year. The company already has nearly 17,000 sourced whiskey barrels aging onsite.

Garrard County, which was dry until November 2023, was previously home to about ten small distilleries in the 1800s when it was an important railroad hub for hemp, flour and whiskey. The distillery property was formerly owned by Revolutionary War hero James Speed.

Onsite production will utilize limestone-rich water from the Lancaster Public Spring aquifer, first tapped by settlers in 1776. Whiskey will be crafted using proprietary yeast and grain sourced locally from within 50 miles of the distillery. Barrel resources will be provided by Independent Stave and ZAK Cooperage. The company will announce its new head distiller in the coming weeks.

“As recently as three months ago, Garrard County was dry, but we were already working cooperatively with the team at Staghorn on this project because we clearly understood the benefits this distillery would bring to Lancaster and the surrounding area,” said Lancaster Mayor Michael Gaffney. “We see Garrard County Distilling Co. as a real opportunity to not only grow our economy, but to share our central Kentucky heritage with folks from around the world… over a glass of whiskey, of course.”

Garrard County Distilling Co. will be home to All Nations Whiskey, which is already available in select markets nationwide, in addition to several soon-to-be announced whiskey and other spirits brands. All Nations Whiskey was named from the poster hung in bars during Carry Nation’s temperance crusade in the late 1800s, smashing saloons with her infamous hatchet. The tongue-in-cheek posters read: “All Nations Welcome Except Carry.” Travelers to the distillery on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail will be able to visit Carry’s Garrard County birthplace home, which was transported and reconstructed stone by stone on the site.

Design of the distillery was led by Morris Workshop Architects of Lexington, KY. The construction was managed by Doss and Horky Construction of Danville, KY. Garrard County Distilling Co. is a member of the Kentucky Distillers’ Association. The project was supported by the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development.

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 16, 2024 - Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, the top-selling Black-owned spirits brand in the world, has announced the launch of its second annual HBCU Old Fashioned Challenge, a nationwide initiative to raise funds for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This year's challenge will see the company work to raise $1.4 million, amounting to one full in-state tuition scholarship per accredited HBCU. The initiative kicked off on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Monday, January 15) and this year it will run through Juneteenth (Tuesday, June 19).

In 2023, it was widely reported that federal officials told 16 states that they have been underfunding their HBCUs by nearly $13 billion over the past 30 years, according to an analysis from the U.S. Department of Education. Tennessee - Uncle Nearest's home state - underfunded its school's land grants the most, according to the report. Through the Old Fashioned Challenge, Uncle Nearest's goal is to not only raise money for these institutions but to shine a light on how HBCUs, which make up less than 3% of colleges, have a proven record of removing barriers to degree completion and postgraduate success, with their graduates making up 50 percent of Black doctors and Black attorneys, 40 percent of Black engineers and Black members of Congress, and 80 percent of Black judges.

"Before we sold our first bottle of Uncle Nearest, we were already funding the college education of Nearest Green's descendants," said Fawn Weaver, Founder and CEO of Uncle Nearest. "Every semester, writing those checks brought me immense joy, knowing the significant impact they would have on each student's life. 30-Year-Old Irish Single Malt Becomes the Most Expensive Bottle of Whiskey (or Whisky) Ever Sold

LONDON, Jan. 12, 2024 - The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. has seen a record-breaking start to 2024, selling a bottle of whiskey to American collector Mike Daley, for $2.8m. This world-first sale makes The Emerald Isle, already the rarest triple-distilled single malt in existence, the most expensive bottle of whiskey, or whisky, ever sold.

Historically, the most sought-after bottles of the spirit have been Scotch whiskies. Last November, a bottle of The Macallan 1926 fetched $2.7m at auction, briefly becoming the world's most expensive bottle, a title that has now been usurped by The Emerald Isle, representing a shift in luxury collectors' interests, many of whom feel the Scotch market has become too crowded.

Mike Daley said: "Irish is the future of whiskey. I'm excited to be part of it, as a collector, but most importantly as a drinker."

Daley is one of the US' most prolific collectors of the spirit, with a vast collection consisting of several thousand bottles of Irish, American, and Scotch whiskeys/whiskies. His latest record-breaking purchase is one of only seven sets in existence; a liquid which three decades of maturation in a variety of casks, have imbued with an unrivalled intensity of flavour. The Emerald Isle's stunning walnut case includes a single decanter, alongside a bespoke Fabergé egg — containing an actual emerald gem — a custom timepiece, and a pair of Cohiba cigars.

Daley also said: "The rebirth of Irish whiskey is relatively new, so I feel like I'm getting in on the ground floor. Luxury scotch, to me, is already a crowded type of market. But we're only just starting to see luxury Irish make a name for itself. I guarantee you that in the years to come, it will get to where scotch is today."
