LONDON, March 29, 2022 - The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. has been crowned World's Best Irish Single Malt across all categories at The World Whiskies Awards with its inaugural release, The Devil's Keep.

The industry's finest gathered together at the Honourable Artillery Company in London on Thursday, 24 March to celebrate the 2022 Whisky Magazine Awards. Returning to London as an in-person event, the global awards ceremony saw the announcement of the World Whiskies Awards and the Icons of Whisky global winners, as well as four new inductees to Whisky Magazine's renowned Hall of Fame. The Whisky Magazine Awards seek to honour the very best in the industry, across its people, places and products.

The Devil's Keep beat off stiff competition from five other Irish Single Malt whiskeys across five different categories including Teeling Whiskey 30 Years Old Single Malt in the 21 years and over category, Knappogue Castle 12 Years Old in the Single Malt 12 years and under, Teeling Whiskey Brabazon Series 4 in the Single Malt 13-20 year category, Clonakilty Distillery O'Hara's Cask Finish Special Limited Edition in the Small Batch Single Malt category and The Irishman 17 Years Old in the Single Cask Single Malt 13-20 years category.

Jay Bradley, Founder and CEO of The Craft Irish Whiskey Co., is a true student of whiskey and spent years researching the chemistry of what separates good from great in the category. Resting in the cask, the liquid is a living, breathing organism which peaks and troughs repeatedly through the year. A standout whiskey, he found, isn't determined by an arbitrary measurement of age. It's arrived at only by quality cooperage and precise organoleptic observation. With The Devil's Keep, Bradley would carefully pull samples each day as the expression matured in a finish of fine Hungarian Oak. Ultimately, he opted to bottle it at 29.9 years–just shy of a coveted 30 year age statement–because from a taste perspective he knew the time was right.

Commenting after being crowned winner of Best Single Malt across all categories in Ireland, Jay Bradley, Founder and CEO of The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. said: "I am ecstatic and equally humbled that The Devil's Keep was crowned World's Best Irish Single Malt, beating some fantastic competition including two stellar whiskeys from the Teeling stable. This is the ninth award for The Devil's Keep 2020 Inaugural Edition, a rare triple distilled, Single Malt whiskey and one of the finest whiskeys that Ireland has ever created. The launch of The Devil's Keep in November 2020 saw just 333 bottles released. It was the most expensive inaugural first release in history, selling at auction for USD $60,000 (almost £46,000 and €51,000 Euros), and the oldest triple distilled Irish whiskey in existence, only to be topped by The Craft Irish Whiskey Co.'s second release in February 2021 of the 30-year-old The Emerald Isle Collection.

Amongst its other accolades is a Gold award from the world-renowned International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) 2021 and a Gold from the Global Luxury Spirit Masters 2021.

The 2022 Second Edition release of The Devil's Keep is due very soon but The Craft Irish Whiskey Co. only releases a whiskey when it has reached perfection in the barrel, so the number of bottles and date of release is still to be determined. As with all of the company's rare releases, this second edition will be available to loyal clients before being released to the general public.

Characterised by its distinctive tawny, amber colour

Nose:
The Devil's Keep opens with a nose of the rich aromas of a traditional Christmas cake and Vermont maple syrup, followed by powerful notes of ripe banana, sherry-soaked raisins and hints of 70% dark chocolate adding depth.

Palate:
The sweetness of golden honey combines with Amarone and accents of dark cherries to add a velvet softness balanced beautifully by a dusting of rich dark chocolate to round off the palate. Rich and warming yet fresh and well-balanced, with supple sweetness and a rich texture.

Finish:
Beautifully constructed, long and viscous with remanence of maple syrup and chocolate which opens up the liquid to a fine balance of smooth and rich flavours. Rich and oily on the palate, but not overwhelmingly so, and underpinned with a slightly dry finish, providing an indulgent and inimitable taste that will remain on the taste buds.

To kick off the program with a special nod to strides being made for women's progress, Johnnie Walker and partners at the National Women's Soccer League's LA-based Angel City Football Club tapped five-time Grammy Award-winning artist Brittany Howard and LA-based artist Tia P. to create "Running with the Angels," the first original anthem for a U.S. women's professional sports team and the official anthem for the ACFC team. The song is an ode to the team's trailblazing spirit, as the world's first majority women-founded, owned and operated pro-soccer team, and will serve as a celebratory anthem for the team and fans as they take the field for their first season next month.

"This anthem is a celebration of women, of Angel City FC, of the city of Los Angeles, and of everyone around the country doing bold things to create positive change in the world," said Brittany Howard. "I'm proud to continue creating meaningful work with Johnnie Walker that hopefully inspires people to keep walking together towards a more equitable future."

Along with the anthem release, Johnnie Walker will enable more people to take bold steps towards progress through a series of First Strides grants. Anyone 21+ can apply for a First Stride grant but the brand will continue to dedicate funding to communities where inequality exists. Pilot House Distilling Opening its Third Tasting Room

Pilot House Distilling is spreading its roots and is headed for the beach. The distillery, which has been serving up spirits in its Astoria tasting room, has plans to launch a third tasting room in Cannon Beach in April.

Larry Cary, co-founder of Pilot House, is looking forward to the expansion and the chance to reach a wider audience on the Oregon coast.

“Cannon Beach has always been on my list of places to open a tasting room,” says Larry. “We have spent a lot of time in Cannon beach, and it is a beautiful place. I am glad to have this opportunity to finally showcase “The Spirits of the Coast” in a great coastal location.”

Larry and his wife Christina began Pilot House Distilling in 2013. Larry always had an interest in spirits and decided to venture into the world of distilling in 2011. Just two years later, the Carys opened their distillery and tasting room in downtown Astoria.

Pilot House offers a wide range of craft spirits including vodkas, gins, whiskies, agave spirits, and even absinthe. Their Astoria tasting room gives locals and visitors the chance to try favorites like their Painted Lady Gin, Chai Tea Vodka, and A-O Come Hell or High Water, a unique ocean-aged whisky aged on local fishing boats. Pilot House also offers a variety of canned cocktails.

In just a couple of short weeks, the same award-winning spirits will be available in Cannon Beach located at 224 N. Hemlock. Until then, guests can visit the Astoria tasting room (at 1270 Duane St.) Monday-Saturday 12 pm-6 pm and Sunday 12 pm-4 pm or Portland (at 4214 N. Mississippi) daily from 2 pm – 9 pm.

LOUISVILLE, Ky., March 22, 2022 - Louisville-based Michter's Distillery will be waiting until 2023 to release its 10 Year Bourbon.

"Over the more than two decades since we restarted Michter's in Kentucky, we have had several years where we've chosen to hold back particular offerings," observed Michter's President Joseph J. Magliocco. "Our goal is to put out the greatest American whiskey. When we think something is already wonderful, but will become spectacular with a bit more aging, we have not been shy about waiting to release it. When it comes to whiskey, there's no substitute for patience and time."

"I'm proud to be at a company that is so laser focused on offering top quality whiskey. This continues the protocol set by our late Master Distiller Willie 'Dr. No' Pratt," commented Michter's Master Distiller Dan McKee. Many years ago, Pratt earned this nickname from Michter's Executive Vice President Steve Ziegler for his refusal to release any whiskey until he felt it was just right.

The Louisville-based distiller plans to keep the barrels originally slated to be bottled this year for one further year of aging. Michter's Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson stated, "Bourbon enthusiasts often tell us how much they love our 10 Year Bourbon for its depth and complexity.  While we know our Michter's supporters will be disappointed, just know we are continuing to stay true to our philosophies of who we are as a company and as a brand by always delivering extraordinary whiskey to those who are willing to wait."

Michter's 10 Year Bourbon has a suggested retail price of $160 in the United States.

Roe & Co Irish Coffee Recipe

  • 1.5 oz Roe & Co
  • 2 tsp light brown sugar
  • 1 cup hot or cold brewed coffee
  • Whipped cream

HOT: Add Hot coffee and sugar, stir and mix well. Once combined, add the Roe & Co Irish Whiskey. Top with Whipped Cream.

COLD: Mix sugar and cold brew coffee well. Stir in Roe & Co. Irish Whiskey and pour over ice filled Irish coffee mug. Top with Whipped Cream.
