Smooth Ambler Spirits Releases Long Awaited Wheated Bourbon, "Big Level"
MAXWELTON, W.Va., May 14, 2018 "Big Level" Wheated Bourbon is at long last ready for release and will be appearing across the US over the coming month.
Bottled at 100 proof and made from a mash of corn, wheat, and malted barley, Big Level Bourbon has been painstakingly made by Smooth Ambler and patiently aged in 53 gallon barrels, resting in and benefitting from the West Virginia mountains and their perfect cadence of seasons.
"Much of what we've done at Smooth Ambler has been leading up to this moment," says Head Distiller and CEO John Little. "The release of Big Level signifies the beginning of our long-term ability to offer a third, important category of whiskeys to us: those which are 100% made here in West Virginia. Founded in 2009, Smooth Ambler has steadily grown to become a leader in the small production of quality, classic whiskey. Winning Best Single Barrel Bourbon in the World for 2016 at the World Whiskies Awards, Smooth Ambler partnered with Pernod Ricard the following year, and continues to produce whiskey in what it refers to as its "Make, Merchant, and Marry" approach, sourcing whiskey in-tandem with its homemade distillate and in the case of award-winning Contradiction Bourbon, making a union of the two.

WhistlePig Releases FarmStock Rye Crop No. 002 Whiskey
SHOREHAM, Vermont., May 8, 2018- Today, WhistlePig Rye Whiskey announces the release of FarmStock Rye Crop No. 002, the second blend of their limited edition annual FarmStock estate release that originally debuted in 2017. It is the latest of WhistlePig's products showing farm-based innovation and the next step in achieving WhistlePig FarmStock's 100% Triple Terroir™ vision – whiskey made from rye grown on their farm, proofed with water from their well, and aged in Vermont oak barrels made from wood harvested from their farm and the surrounding area.
Rye Crop 002 begins with WhistlePig's two-year aged whiskey, made from rye grown on the farm. The whiskey is aged in Vermont oak barrels made from locally harvested trees that feature a truly unique char and toast designed by Master Distiller Dave Pickerell. The estate whiskey is then balanced with 6 and 10 year old Ryes from their special reserves to marry the wildness of youth with the richness of age. The final No. 002 blend increases FarmStock's Triple Terroir expression by 12%, bringing it to 32% in total.
"With the original Rye Crop 001, our goal was simple: we wanted to bring you a whiskey that showcased the quality of our young distillate, while remaining balanced and finessed through the careful selection of casks in the blending process," explains Pete Lynch, Chief Blender at WhistlePig. "Now with Crop 002, we took an even bigger approach, with the flavors from two year old WhistlePig front and center. The whiskey drinks like an old friend with an undeniable maturity."
Promoting Inclusion and transparency in the North American whiskey category, the FarmStock Rye Crop 002 blend was crowdsourced from over 500 bartenders, influencers and consumers at blending events taking place at the WhistlePig farm and across the United States over the last 6 months.
"By boosting the percentage of WhistlePig two year old distillate from 20% to 32%, as well as changing up the other component whiskies in the blend, we're looking at a whiskey that drinks even easier than 001 did. 002 takes well to ice and cocktails, and hits you with a big burst of vanilla, citrus, and rye spice," says Master Distiller Dave Pickerell. "We also get a beautiful balance with some of the fruitier and more oak-like flavors from the more mature component whiskies."
FarmStock Rye Crop No. 002 is composed of 32% two year aged Triple Terroir™ whiskey made on the WhistlePig farm, 45% 6-year aged whiskey from MGPI in Indiana, and 23% 10-year aged whiskey from Alberta Distillers in Canada. Showing dedication to transparency, the back label clearly outlines the three whiskey's involved in the blend. This year's limited release is hand bottled at 86 proof, and the suggested retail price is $72.99.

For its latest Frontier Works collaboration, Bulleit has partnered with local artists in communities around the country to create Bulleit Bottle Impressions. Whether charcoal, paint or chocolate, artists create their pieces by laying paper on top of the Bulleit bottle and using their medium of choice to create an impression by pressing down on the bottle's raised lettering.
As part of its partnership with Frieze Art Fair, Bulleit is now inviting adult visitors at Frieze New York to join in the project by tagging photos of their own Impressions artwork on Instagram using #FrontierWorks. Festival attendees will also have the opportunity to create their own Impression in the Bulleit Whiskey Lounge at Randall's Island Park May 3-6. Select consumer-submitted Impressions using #FrontierWorks will be featured as part of the Bulleit Frontier Works: Bottle Impression project later this summer.

Northeastern PA Craft Distillery Wins Medal at International Competition
Lang Beverage Company is pleased to announce that our craft distillery has recently won a bronze medal at the 2018 Denver International Spirits Competition. This annual competition held in March, is judged double blind by a prestigious panel of sommeliers and seasoned food & beverage professionals. In 2018, more than 350 distilled spirits were judged over a two-day period. Entrants consisted of micro-distilleries, like Lang Beverage Co., to globally recognized spirit brands.
LBC Distillery won a bronze medal for their "220 Shine" Vodka.

Heaven's Door Spirits To Release Collection Of American Whiskeys Developed In Collaboration With Bob Dylan And Renowned Craft Distillers
NASHVILLE, Tenn., April 30, 2018 Today, Spirits Investment Partnership ("SIP"), in partnership with Bob Dylan, announces the debut of Heaven's Door, a collection of super-premium craft American Whiskeys. Bob Dylan's first and only brand partnership, Heaven's Door will be an ever-evolving portfolio of handcrafted whiskeys in collaboration with different master distillers and blenders from across the country.
The genesis of Heaven's Door came when spirits entrepreneur Marc Bushala, CEO of SIP, read that Bob Dylan had registered a trademark application for "Bootleg Whiskey" in 2015. Bushala embarked on a mission to connect with the artist and explore ideas.
Through a mutual friend, a meeting between the two was arranged. Together, they developed the idea of creating a whiskey collection that would be the perfect blend of art and craft, incorporating Bob Dylan's artwork in the packaging.
"Rather than make a single whiskey or work with one master distiller, we thought it would be far more interesting to work with various master distillers and blenders to make whiskeys that would each have their own unique signature," Bushala explains, "By working with different whiskey artisans for each new expression, the portfolio would be more diverse and eclectic."
"We both wanted to create a collection of American whiskeys that, in their own way, tell a story," says Bob Dylan. "I've been traveling for decades, and I've been able to try some of the best spirits that the world of whiskey has to offer. This is great whiskey. I am happy to be partnering with Marc and our entire team as we bring Heaven's Door to the public."
After years and countless iterations of blending and finishing, Heaven's Door arrived at its first three expressions. The trilogy includes a Straight Tennessee Bourbon, a Double Barrel Whiskey, and a Straight Rye Whiskey finished in "Cigar" Barrels from Vosges, France.
"The whiskeys had to be unique, uncompromising in quality and center stage," says Ryan Perry, who leads whiskey development for Heaven's Door. "We weren't restricted by deadlines, budget or a particular taste profile. Working with master distillers like Jordan Via enabled us to establish creative collaboration as a foundational principle of the brand."
Heaven's Door bottles feature Bob Dylan's distinctive iron gates that he created in his studio, Black Buffalo Ironworks, from objects found on farms and scrapyards across America. Complementing the mainstay portfolio, next year Heaven's Door will introduce The Bootleg Series, showcasing Bob Dylan's paintings on proprietary bottles. The Bootleg Series will offer rare whiskey stocks and special blends, available in very limited quantities.
In 2019, Heaven's Door will open its distillery and brand experience center in a 140-year-old church in Nashville. Dylan recorded four albums and made lasting impact on the Music City.
The inaugural Heaven's Door expressions are described as:
- TENNESSEE STRAIGHT BOURBON - A unique mash bill from Tennessee, the Heaven's Door Tennessee Bourbon utilizes 30% "small grains" to complement the character imparted from spending almost seven years in new American Oak barrels.
- DOUBLE BARREL WHISKEY FROM TENNESSEE - Comprised of a distinctive blend of three different whiskeys, the Heaven's Door Double Barrel finishing process utilizes hand toasted, new American Oak barrels for a secondary aging worthy of another year's wait.
- STRAIGHT RYE WHISKEY - Breaking with convention, Heaven's Door finishes its Straight Rye Whiskey in toasted oak cigar barrels, harvested and air-dried in the low-lying mountain region of Vosges, France.
Each of these expressions has already been submitted to two of the most respected spirit competitions for early reviews—the San Francisco World Spirits Competition and The Ultimate Spirits Challenge. Those results are in:
