With Purchase, the Nearest Green Distillery Property Expands to 323.12 Acres to Create Additional Space for Non-GMO Agriculture, Increased Tourism and Whiskey Operations

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn., July 28, 2021 Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, the fastest-growing American whiskey brand in U.S. history, announced today that it closed a $2.1 million deal to purchase an additional 53.12  acres of land on Highway 231 North that abuts its Nearest Green Distillery. The additional land will bring the distillery's total acreage to 323.12 and extend its frontage to over half of a mile along the highway.

With this expansion, Uncle Nearest will dedicate 100 acres of its property to plant and grow its own non-GMO, organic corn. Aptly called the "Field of Dreams," the corn will be used solely to create the brand's portfolio of premium, award-winning whiskeys. In addition to its massive growth, Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey is the most-awarded whiskey or bourbon of 2019, 2020 and 2021.

"When we broke ground, we made history as the first distillery in America to be named after a Black person. Every day, our brand continues to make history and we are finding more and more people wanting to celebrate this history with us at record numbers," said Fawn Weaver, CEO and founder of Uncle Nearest. "Expanding our distillery allows us to increase our production capabilities, as well as to continue to enhance the guest experience, so every person who visits has a reason to return again and again."

Nearest Green Distillery, home of the legacy of Nearest Green, the first known African American master distiller, reopened its doors on June 19, 2021. After a more than year-long pandemic-related closure, the distillery unveiled its Phase Two additions, including: a Welcome Center; Philo + Frank's, the world's first non-alcoholic speakeasy; the first single barrel rickhouse; and Family Tasting Room. The current 270-acre footprint will continue to be built out to provide the best tourist experience possible.

"Every weekend, when Nearest Green Distillery opens its doors, we welcome guests from all over the country. At any given time, we have guests from more than 20 states represented, who have all come to Tennessee to experience the cementing of the legacy of Nearest Green," said Weaver.

3 oz Chilled Soda Water

Glass:

Garnish:

Method: Add whisky to chilled highball glass filled with ice spears. Stir and gently top with chilled soda water. Place a bar spoon under the ice and stir a few times, being careful not to over stir. Spray with the aromatic oil of the orange twist, and garnish.

Yamazaki 25 Single Malt Whisky is blended from rare whiskies aged over a quarter of a century in the place Shinjiro Torii chose to begin the illustrious journey of Japanese whisky.

Fifth generation Chief Blender Shinji Fukuyo has returned to the roots of what made Yamazaki quintessentially Yamazaki. Yamazaki Single Malt celebrates the profound spirit of its soul place – deep, complex and multi-layered with fruit and Mizunara notes. For Fukuyo, Yamazaki 25 was a journey in rediscovering what is Yamazaki, the pioneer of Japanese Whisky. Now, Yamazaki 12, Yamazaki 18 and the reformulated Yamazaki 25 all contain carefully blended liquid components aged in American oak, Spanish oak and Japanese Mizunara oak.

"My inspiration for Yamazaki 25 was the Yamazaki 1984 statement that was awarded the ultimate recognition of the Supreme Champion Spirit at the International Spirits Challenge in 2010," said Shinji Fukuyo. "We went back to the key component whiskies of Yamazaki. We deliberately chose to feature the depth and profound nature of the notable Japanese Mizunara Oak. For in its meticulous balance with the American and Spanish Oak, Yamazaki's signature multi-layered taste profile and complex aroma is accentuated."

Yamazaki means "mountain cape" originating from the two Japanese characters⼭(yama – mountain) and崎 (saki – cape), referencing its unique geographic location – surrounded by a range of forest covered mountains. Since 1923, Yamazaki Distillery has been globally acclaimed as Japan's first and oldest malt distillery. Nestled proudly on the periphery of Kyoto, the area around Yamazaki Distillery has been long referred to as "Minaseno" famous for its exquisite natural water, even mentioned in the Man'yoshu, the ancient anthology of Japanese poetry. Home to Sen no Rikyu, Master of "The Way of Tea" and his renowned "Rikyu no Mizu" (water of the imperial villa), the waters of Yamazaki are selected by the nation's Ministry of Environment as one of Japan's one hundred best natural mineral waters.

In 1984, following the pioneering spirit of Shinjiro Torii, second generation Master Blender Keizo Saji introduced Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky to commemorate the 60 years since the first drop of whisky was made at the Yamazaki distillery. Since then, Yamazaki has continuously paved the way for Japanese whisky. In  2003, Yamazaki was the first Japanese whisky to be awarded the Gold Medal at the International Spirits Challenge. Today, Yamazaki is embraced as one of the best single malts of the world, with Yamazaki Sherry Cask 2013 being awarded the World's Best Whisky in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2015. This year, 18 years after receiving its first Gold Medal, the reformulated Yamazaki 25 again received a Gold Medal from the 2021 International Spirits Challenge.

The new Yamazaki 25 enhances the award-winning Yamazaki collection, consistently showcasing the House of Suntory's diversity of making and art of aging. Meticulously composed of rare malt whiskies, all aged over 25 years in American, Spanish and Mizunara Oak casks, this masterpiece single malt embraces a complex flavor profile highlighting dried-fruit aromas, balanced with hints of tart and subtle sweetness, all enveloped in its signature, noble, sandalwood bouquet of Mizunara casks, for a deep and lingering finish.

Making its way to shelves now, Let’s Get Lost is an award-winning American Single Malt Whiskey distilled from a custom blend of malted barley and aged onsite for more than three years in charred oak barrels. TAIPEI, July 20, 2021 Kavalan has claimed the World Whisky Producer of the Year Trophy from the International Spirits Challenge (ISC) for the second year running.

The top prize makes it a triple trophy honours season so far for Taiwan's premier distiller across the 2021 ISC and International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC), combined.

Kavalan has been awarded the 2021:

  • IWSC Worldwide Whiskey Trophy

Kavalan blitzed the first round of the 2021 International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC), winning the Worldwide Whiskey Trophy - for the fifth time - for its Kavalan Podium Single Malt Whisky. The Taiwanese distillery collected 7 of only 8 Gold Outstanding medals that IWSC judges awarded across the entire contest.

Podium, which is aged in a mix of virgin American oak casks with refill casks, was described by judges as follows:

"Lifted oak notes on the nose with roasted coffee beans, honeysuckle and rose aromas. The spicy, weighty palate opens with an array of forest fruits and is bright and full and ends with a dusting of sweet porridge and nutmeg. Expertly balanced."

The ISC Spirits Tourism Awards recognises innovation and excellence among global distilleries. Kavalan collected the Distillery Visitor Centre Trophy.

Judges Feedback:

  • Large, modern Visitors Centre. Feedback from visitors to this Distillery is good and the Centre is very organised.  However it is very large with rows of tasting benches so more commercial than personal.
  • This entry stood out for me, as beyond the typical museum and visitor centre entrance, Kavalan had a free tasting area, art installation, whisky ice cream van, a bar, a café and so much more. It explains the terroir of the region and story of Kavalan. The visitor numbers are incredible which is testament to the strong offering of the distillery. Fantastic Job.
  • As a visitor centre it seems to go beyond just an afterthought to the tour but as a major attraction in its own right with its Garden Bar, Garden Hall, Tasting & DIY blending rooms and café.

CEO Mr Lee said he had congratulated his team and asked them to keep up the good work. "We want to keep delivering quality to our fans and critics around the world," Mr Lee said.

Following the heels of WhistlePig’s award winning FarmStock Rye and Bourbon collection, WhistlePig RoadStock Rye Whiskey was created on the road less traveled and finished in All-American barrels. In collaboration with Jordan Winery and Firestone Walker Brewery, the epic journey of RoadStock began earlier this year at WhistlePig’s 500-acre farm in Shoreham, VT, where WhistlePig commissioned an 18-wheeler ‘Rolling Rickhouse,’ which would make its way on a 6,000-mile barrel finishing journey unlike anything the industry has ever seen.

Upon completion of the RoadStock Rolling Rickhouse, half of the future RoadStock whiskey was transferred into Bordeaux blend casks from Jordan Winery in Sonoma’s Alexander Valley. The whiskey in Bordeaux blend; 78% Cabernet, 12% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec casks would make the full 6000-mile round trip journey providing ample time for the whiskey to steal the nuanced complexity from these incredible casks. Known for elegant European wines, including their classic Cabernet Sauvignon, Jordan has been family owned and operated since 1972.

To celebrate this amazing adventure, WhistlePig also created a custom RoadStock Dodge Hellcat, powered by aged WhistlePig Whiskey. WhistlePig’s partners at VP Racing Fuels created a custom fuel blend with aged WhistlePig Whiskey that was track tested at Radford Racing School in Chandler, AZ. To pilot the RoadStock Dodge Hellcat, WhistlePig engaged none other than renowned auto industry personalities Chris Jacobs and Cristy Lee, to accompany the Rolling Rickhouse for last leg of the journey.

“I’ve had some unique experiences in the automotive space over the years, but when WhistlePig called and asked me if I would like to track test and then drive their whiskey powered Hellcat alongside the Rolling Rick House to Paso Robles, I mean, who could say no to that. After weaving along the historic Route 66, the RoadStock Rolling Rick House, tailed by the RoadStock Dodge Hellcat, headed north to one of the largest and most innovative craft breweries in the country, Firestone Walker Brewing Company in Paso Robles, CA. At Firestone Walker, the balance of the whiskey was transferred into Firestone’s Imperial Stout, Imperial Blonde Ale and Experimental Ale barrels to finish on the long journey back to Vermont.

Each year since 2015, Beam has produced a unique, limited-edition bourbon under the Yellowstone brand, which was established in 1872 by Beam's great-great-grandfather and early bourbon pioneer, J.W. Dant. For this year's Yellowstone Limited Edition, Beam selected Amarone casks to finish select barrels of 7-year-old-bourbon to complement the tasting notes of the extra-aged bourbons that make up this year's Limited Edition.

"Amarone is a rich, red wine that – much like bourbon – takes time and patience to craft and requires at least two years in oak casks to age. Finishing select barrels in these Amarone casks brings notes of fresh cracked pepper and tobacco, as well as hints of black cherry, fig and dark chocolate to the classic bourbon notes of caramel, vanilla and hints of citrus," explained Beam. "With a finish of oxidized fruit, cherry and black currant, this bourbon is reminiscent of pre-Prohibition whiskeys."

2021 Limited Edition will be bottled at 101 proof (50.5% ABV) and sold in custom-designed bottles featuring embossing, a high-end natural cork and a label featuring the 2021 Yellowstone Limited Edition emblem. Beginning in July, 7,500 cases (3 bottles per case) will be available at retail locations nationwide – a 50% increase in production over 2020.

"Domestic straight bourbon sales saw 21% growth versus last year, with ultra-premium bourbons experiencing 38% growth. The Yellowstone brand has experienced nearly five times that level of growth," said Caitlin Palmieri Jackson, brand manager for Limestone Branch Distillery. "Our Limited Edition expression is equal parts a celebration of that success and a way to raise awareness and continue momentum for the brand family."

In past years, the annual Yellowstone Limited Edition bottlings have included as many as three bourbons used in a blend, incorporating bourbon aged in wine casks, re-charred wine casks, and even wine casks charred three different times.

Not only did Georgette have the top Apple/Cinnamon whiskey in the 2021 SIP Awards hotly contested flavored whiskey class, but her Gold Medal marked the first time in competition history that a daughter had followed her father's Gold Medal win with a Gold Medal for her own brand. Her Dad's Gold Medal came in 2016 in the same class.

The guarded apple/cinnamon recipe was created by Kentucky Master Distiller R. Spencer Balentine using his great grandfather's base whiskey recipe from 1920. Balentine remains one of the top medal winners over various categories in the International SIP Awards yearly competition.
