The Original Pickle Shot Celebrates 'National Pickle Day' with Cocktail Kits, a Sweepstakes Offer, and an Online Discount

The Original Pickle Shot Celebrates 'National Pickle Day' with Cocktail Kits, a Sweepstakes Offer, and an Online Discount

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla., Nov. 13, 2024 -- For The Original Pickle Shot®, the top-selling pickle spirit in the U.S., tomorrow (November 14) is one of the most important days of the year. It's "National Pickle Day" of course!

This year, The Original Pickle Shot (known by its fans across the country as "TOPS"), is celebrating this gherkin day of reverence by offering delivery of a "Pickle Margarita Tailgate Kit," and kicking off a national sweepstakes for a pair of luxury pickle-themed boots. And on National Pickle Day November 14, visitors to TheOriginalPickleShot.com will be able take 20 percent off their online orders of two or more bottles.

The "Pickle Margarita Tailgate Kit," developed in partnership with Twang, is available through Cocktail Courier for $69.99 and includes everything people need to prepare a TOPS Pickle Marg at home (including, of course, small bottles of The Original Pickle Shot – original and spicy – and Twang beer salts bottles). There's also some fun stuff in there like a TOPS fanny pack, shot glasses, bandana, and coaster.

Also for "National Pickle Day," TOPS customized a pair of one-of-a-kind Miron Crosby cowboy boots to award to one lucky winner. The sweepstakes runs until November 17 on The Original Pickle Shot's Instagram and website. The Original Pickle Shot's famous Pickle Marg cocktail recipe will be included in a custom message box inscribed onto a piece of leather stitched in the inside liner of the boots.

"I think everyone should have November 14 – 'National Pickle Day' – circled on their calendar, this most important occasion to celebrate the almighty pickle," says John King, co-founder of The Original Pickle Shot. "With our marg kits, recipes, sweeps, and discounts, this year TOPS has made it even easier and more fun to praise the pickle!"

To mix a TOPS Pickle Marg, simply combine 1oz. of The Original Pickle Shot (your choice, original or spicy) with 1oz. of silver tequila, 1oz. of lime juice, and 1oz. of agave nectar into a shaker with ice. Strain that into a rocks glass over fresh ice and garnish with a pickle spear (sprinkled with Twang chili lime salt). Easy!

About The Original Pickle Shot

FOLEY FAMILY WINES & SPIRITS UNVEILS NEW LINE OF SINGLE ESTATE WHISKEYS, MINDEN MILL

FOLEY FAMILY WINES & SPIRITS UNVEILS NEW LINE OF SINGLE ESTATE WHISKEYS, MINDEN MILL

The launch of ultra-premium whiskeys includes three estate-grown expressions: bourbon, rye and American single malt

SANTA ROSA, Calif., Nov. 13, 2024-- Foley Family Wines & Spirits (FFWS), the Sonoma County-based, family-owned wine and spirits company, continues its strategic expansion into the spirits market with the launch of Minden Mill single estate whiskeys, crafted at the Minden Mill Distillery, which FFWS began operating in May, 2023. The whiskeys are crafted from local estate-grown grains and pure snowmelt from the nearby Sierra Nevada mountains, distilled and aged at the cutting-edge Minden facility in the Nevada high desert.

Very few distilleries own the entire whiskey production process from farm to glass on a single estate. To be an estate distillery, every step of the process must be controlled from start to finish by the distillery, with 85% of raw materials coming from the estate. Minden Mill Distilling takes this designation further by only sourcing grains from within five miles of the distillery from land under Minden Mill's control. This process, which takes place at a state-of-the-art facility unlike anywhere else in the world, brings out the terroir of the Carson Valley.

Master Distiller Joe O'Sullivan finished the products with the team at Minden Mill, who are dedicated to the estate distilling standard and have worked for years to elevate this category in the West. Joe is also a leader on the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission, which seeks to define category standards in this growing category of American whiskey.

"High desert terroir is distinct. The demanding climate of the Carson Valley has shaped our grain through heat and frost into a raw material we work hard to honor," stated Joe O'Sullivan, Master Distiller. "What you'll find in our whiskey is a flavor that appeals to the new drinker looking to explore the category as well as the experienced spirit hound who is searching for their new coveted bottle. These Minden Mill single estate whiskeys are the first step in bringing estate distilling, and the high desert terroir to the forefront of the American craft whiskey category."

Jason Daniel, Chief Marketing Officer for FFWS, adds, "The Minden Mill whiskeys are distinctively single estate, the crowning point of American craft whiskey-making.  From the high desert terroir to the meticulous craftsmanship, these whiskeys could only come from here."

The Minden Mill estate collection includes three meticulously crafted whiskeys, each complementing the others while maintaining a unique flavor profile:

  • Nevada Straight Bourbon Whiskey ($44.99): A modern take on classic American whiskey, this bourbon is crafted with 60% Earth Tone heirloom corn, 20% rye, 10% barley, and 10% oats. It features notes of cherry cola, vanilla, and light spices, with a long, sweet finish. Aged four years in new charred American and French oak. ABV 47%. Non-chill filtered.
  • Nevada Straight Rye Whiskey ($44.99): A spicier, warmer whiskey with hints of candied fruits. This rye is crafted with 80% rye, 10% wheat, and 10% barley. This ratio was designed to highlight the candied orange peel reflective of the Carson Valley terroir. Aged four years in new charred American and French oak. ABV 47%. Non-chill filtered.
  • American Single Malt ($59.99): Our process is one of the world's most innovative. Combining cutting-edge heating systems with Forsyth stills, Scotland's premier still manufacturers. Made with 100% estate-grown barley that is malted on site, this expression offers an elevated flavor profile with notes of coffee and almond, ideal for those seeking something new from American whiskey. Aged five years in a barrel regime of Oloroso sherry, ex-bourbon, and American oak casks. ABV 47%. Non-chill filtered.

The bourbon and rye were crafted using specific grain varietals that thrive in the short growing season of the high desert, using only Sierra Nevada Mountain snowmelt sourced from the well just steps from the distillery doors, and distilled in a state-of-the-art Christian CARL hybrid still. The American single malt was crafted in rare Forsyth stills, some of the few in the United States.

All the whiskeys are aged in climate controlled rickhouses tied to specific weather stations in whiskey regions that inspired the distiller: the Speyside region of Scotland for the American single malt and Nelson County, KY for the bourbon and rye. Minden Mill is a member of the newly formed Estate Whiskey Alliance and the American Single Malt Whiskey Commission.

Minden Mill completes the estate process by bottling in-house and making the first pours available in the bar and tasting room, which is open to visitors for tastings and tours.

The estate distillery includes two historic buildings each listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The flour mill and the creamery underwent extensive renovation and restoration, with both buildings receiving LEED Gold certification.

Minden Mill's whiskeys join a diverse range of artisan spirits in the Foley Family Wine & Spirits portfolio that include High Ground Estate Vodka, Charles Goodnight Texas Straight Bourbon Whiskey, New Zealand's Lighthouse Gin, El Mexicano Tequila, the Loch Lomond Group portfolio of Scotch and spirits, Two Stacks Irish Whiskey and Killowen Distillery.

The recent company name change to Foley Family Wines & Spirits reflects this rapid growth and emphasizes the company's commitment to its spirits portfolio.

Minden Mill will be available for purchase in Nevada, Arizona, California, Colorado, and Illinois (prices ranging from $44.99 to $59.99), as well as online at mindenmill.com.

Maker's Mark Taps Legendary Bar Hemingway Bartender Colin P. Field for Holiday Pop-Up Series 'Le 46'

Maker's Mark Taps Legendary Bar Hemingway Bartender Colin P. Field for Holiday Pop-Up Series 'Le 46'

For One-Night-Only at the Maker's Mark Distillery and in New York City, Colin P. Field will Bring the Spirit of Maker's Mark No. 46 to Life

LORETTO, Ky., Nov. 13, 2024- Maker's Mark, the iconic handmade Kentucky bourbon, today announced its partnership with world-renowned bartender, and friend of the brand, Colin P. Field, to create an extraordinary cocktail experience at the Maker's Mark Distillery and in New York City this December.

Kicking off the holidays, the bespoke bourbon pop-up aptly named 'Le 46,' will celebrate Maker's Mark 46, which is aged with specially seared French oak staves, giving it bolder notes of caramel and vanilla and a balanced complexity. Inspired by its Kentucky-made, French-finished expression, Maker's Mark enlisted Field, known for his storied career at the iconic Bar Hemingway in Paris, to develop the Le 46 cocktail program.

"Not only does Colin create impeccable cocktails, he is also a fantastic storyteller and the consummate host," said Rob Samuels, eighth generation whisky maker and managing director, Maker's Mark. "We are delighted to welcome Colin back to the homeplace of Maker's Mark and excited to share the exceptional experience he'll create with our community of bourbon lovers."

Le 46 will first pop up at the Maker's Mark Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky, on Friday, December 6th, as part of the brand's annually anticipated 'Holiday Sip & Stroll' tour - special after-hours tours of the distillery under the holiday lights where guests enjoy warm bourbon cocktails, seasonal snacks and can purchase a bottle of Maker's Mark to hand dip in the brand's signature red wax.

For more than 44 years, Field has created, shaken, and stirred cocktails for celebrities and CEOs, designers and doyennes, the global jet-set and local regulars. Field brings his expertise to Kentucky at the Maker's Mark Homeplace Bar for one night only, where guests can enjoy handcrafted Maker's Mark 46 cocktails by Colin. Tickets are $35, while reservations are available here

Field said: "As a barman who deeply appreciates the artistry of fine spirits, Maker's Mark 46 stands out to me for its unique character and complexity thanks to the French oak finishing. It beautifully marries the richness of tradition with a modern twist. I'm thrilled to craft this pop-up experience, where I can share my passion for this exceptional bourbon and celebrate its extraordinary flavor."

True to his penchant for creating cocktails that travel the world, Field will create a signature Maker's Mark 46 cocktail to be featured at the distillery through the holiday season.

Following its Kentucky debut, Le 46 will journey with Field to the Maker's Mark holiday pop-up in New York City in December. Once more, Field will craft cocktails that showcase the unique character of Maker's Mark 46 in every sip.

About Maker's Mark

Maker's Mark® is the iconic handmade Kentucky bourbon driven by a vision for better flavor and a better world. Maker's Mark began with the innovative spirit of Margie and Bill Samuels, Sr., who in 1953, fulfilled their dream to create a delicious bourbon without the bite, using soft red winter wheat instead of rye to enhance the softness, sweetness, and signature creaminess. Highly desired around the world, Maker's Mark is handmade, hand-dipped in our signature red wax, and every barrel continues to be rotated by hand and is aged to taste not time.

Always true to the founders' vision, Maker's Mark continues to shape the brand's future through purposeful, flavor-driven innovation. In recent years, the brand has introduced thoughtful, super-premium expressions to its portfolio, including Maker's Mark 46, Maker's Mark Cask Strength, and Maker's Mark Cellar-Aged, all Double Gold winners of the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, as well as Maker's Mark Private Selection: the brand's custom barrel program.

Advancing its mission to cultivate bourbon that betters the world, while crafting the most flavorful product possible for consumers, Maker's Mark is the largest bourbon distillery in the world to achieve B Corp Certification and the first distillery to achieve Regenified Certification, a reflection of the brand's dedication to sustainable agriculture practices at Star Hill Farm, home to the Maker's Mark Distillery. Jack Daniel’s and the ASYMCA Kick Off 14th Year of "Operation Ride Home" Helping Junior-Enlisted Service Members and Their Families Go Home for the Holidays

LYNCHBURG, Tenn-The Jack Daniel Distillery and the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) today kicked off the 14th year of their “Operation Ride Home” (ORH) campaign that helps junior-enlisted service members and their families travel home to see loved ones during the holiday season. Through ORH, 12,698 people have traveled home since the program began in 2011.

“Thanks to funds raised for this program by Jack Daniel’s, its partners and its customers, we believe we can set a record this year and send the most military families home yet.”

Once again, Jack Daniel’s has made its annual $100,000 donation to kick off the program and is asking their friends to visit operationridehome.com if they’d like to contribute to the cause.

Over $3 million has been raised over the years by the iconic Tennessee Whiskey distillery, its business partners, and the public to provide financial assistance for active-duty, junior-enlisted military, and their families to travel from their base of duty to homes across the country.

“These young heroes and their families sacrifice so much for our country, and we want to help them get off base and make the trip home to see their loved ones over the holidays,” said Chris Fletcher, Master Distiller. “For so many, they want to make the trip home but just do not have the necessary finances. And that’s where Operation Ride Home comes in – to provide those resources so that the dream of making it home to experience the joys of the season becomes a reality.”

“We are extremely proud to once again partner with Jack Daniel’s to make the holidays special for so many military families,” said Vice Admiral Bill French, USN (Ret.). “Thanks to funds raised for this program by Jack Daniel’s, its partners and its customers, we believe we can set a record this year and send the most military families home yet.”

The ASYMCA works with the various military commands in specific areas co-located with ASYMCA branches to identify and prioritize junior-enlisted service members and families most in financial need. Service men and women from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard have traveled to all 50 states through airline tickets, pre-paid debit cards for those driving and other benefits.

Operation Ride Home is open to active-duty E-5 and below, both single and married, who might not otherwise financially be able to travel home. The option to drive or fly is an individual decision. For additional information on eligibility and to view participating installations that qualify for travel assistance, please visit https://www.asymca.org/operation-ride-home.

TEMPLETON, Iowa, Nov. 7, 2024  -- Today, Templeton American Whiskey is proud to unveil the latest addition to its award-winning portfolio, Templeton Straight Rye Whiskey (MSRP $29.99), now rolling out nationwide. This expression honors the brand's prohibition roots with a flavorful and full-bodied rye whiskey, patiently aged in brand new charred oak barrels. With a "straight" whiskey designation and higher proof, this next generation of Templeton's signature whiskey is perfectly tailored to meet the growing demand for rye in the craft cocktail scene and satisfy whiskey enthusiasts alike.

At 90 proof and a mash bill that consists of 95% Rye and 5% Malted Barley, Templeton Straight Rye Whiskey is meticulously selected from sourced rye whiskey inventory then aged for a minimum of 4 years in first-fill American oak barrels and bottled at the Templeton Distillery in Templeton, Iowa.

Templeton Straight Rye Whiskey is also non-chill filtered with a natural rich amber hue, featuring visually enticing legs after a swirl of the whiskey glass, hinting at the whiskey's full-bodied character. An inviting symphony of warm vanilla and pineapple aromas dance on the nose with subtle notes of toasted oak and a touch of spice. It features a full-bodied, smooth palate with distinct flavors of ripe cherries, dark chocolate, a subtle honey undertone and all the classic rye spices creating a complex and satisfying taste profile. A lingering warm finish gracefully evolves, leaving traces of cinnamon and black pepper complemented by caramelized oak. This delightful interplay of sweet and spicy notes in the finish speaks to the whiskey's maturity.

Introducing Kentucky Nectar, Old Commonwealth Distillery's Second Premium Whiskey Expression

Relaunching a 57-year-old brand as honey-tinged dessert in your glass

LAWRENCEBURG, Ky., Nov. 1, 2024 - For the first time since 1967, Kentucky Nectar is back. As Old Commonwealth Distillery's second release, Kentucky Nectar is a double barreled, cask-strength, wheated Kentucky straight bourbon that's been finished in honey casks. This 106-proof stunner drinks far below its ABV, packs a delicious pile of dessert notes in each dram, and will make any honey-finish haters rethink their ire.

Reviving Kentucky Nectar

Founded in 1865, Mellwood Distillery (so named for the street it resided upon) would evolve into General Distillers Corporation of Kentucky, and become the birthplace of Kentucky Nectar, decades ago. After a period of dormancy, Kentucky Nectar was last produced by Heaven Hill, as a private label brand for Chicago wine importers Geeting and Fromm, between 1957 and 1967. That 8-year-old bottled-in-bond Kentucky bourbon was of an unknown mashbill.

While Kentucky Nectar wasn't produced within any prior iteration of Old Commonwealth Distillery, the new owners of the Lawrenceburg facility were bullish on the brand. "Reviving vintage brands is our mission, combining our love for Kentucky history with our passion for whiskey," says Zachary Joseph, Old Commonwealth's president of operations. "The Kentucky Nectar label fits perfectly within our portfolio of vintage labels."

While Joseph and partners Andrew English and Troy LeBlanc haven't seen an original Kentucky Nectar in the wild, they sought to bring a twist to the label. After six months of testing various barrels of sourced whiskey and finishing iterations, most protocepts weren't stacking up. "We tested 27 different iterations of finishes, and a wheated whiskey with a honey finish was the 24th variant," says Joseph. That combination became Kentucky Nectar.

Kentucky Nectar Batch 1: Crafting the ideal honey-finish bourbon

"Finished bourbons shouldn't be too sweet," says LeBlanc. "We created a whiskey that's tailored to the premium whiskey drinker but still approachable to category neophytes. The honey is subtle; more refined than gimmicky." Most honey-finish bourbons use a high-rye mashbill, but wheat imparts a softer note that compliments the Kentucky straight bourbon characteristics without overtaking the base whiskey.

Kentucky Nectar uses no artificial sweeteners, just real organic honey, placed within a new charred oak barrel. That presented a little problem when filling the barrels with the actual nectar. "Bees are attracted to the smell of honey," LeBlanc recalls, "so we're in the middle of getting the barrels filled with the honey and a colony of thousands of bees showed up and swarmed us all over the production facility."

Further, the large volume of honey used in each barrel added significant weight. For optimal finishing, the barrels then had to be hand-rotated on a regular basis. "That was a real labor of love, turning each barrel daily, just to get the honey in all the right surface area," says Joseph, who personally wrestled much of the lot.

Fending off bee swarms and manhandling barrels paid off. As part of market research, Old Commonwealth conducted a blind tasting, pitting Kentucky Nectar against several market-leading honey-finished whiskies. Seeking opinions on premium quality, proof point, and which dram consumers would recommend most, Kentucky Nectar won unanimously, across all categories. "Every participant commented they believed Kentucky Nectar to be the lowest proof," says Joseph. "At cask strength, it was actually the highest."

The SRP for Kentucky Nectar Batch 1 is $99.99. A special OC VIP sale will be available through Old Commonwealth's online retailer on November 14th, 2024 at 11AM EST. To become an OC VIP, customers can sign up now (it's free) on Old Commonwealth's website — https://oldcommonwealth.com/pages/waitlist — and they will be sent the VIP sale link the morning of the 14th. Kentucky Nectar will be available for retail sale in select Kentucky stores on November 15th.

Kentucky Nectar Batch 1 // Tasting Notes

Palate: It's char first, then a pop of sweet honey, baking spices, then cinnamon crumb cake drizzled with honey

Finish: Sweet cream vanilla arrives first, then a fast dry down, and the lingering note is honey graham crackers.
