LOS ANGELES, May 21, 2014  ROK Drinks, part of ROK Stars PLC, the consumer goods and environmental technologies company, has announced its Uisce Beatha Real Irish Whiskey has been awarded a Gold Medal at the prestigious International Craft Spirits Competition held in Los Angeles between May 6 and 8.

Evaluated in a blind-tasting process by two dozen respected and influential judges and hosted by Forrest Cokely, an expert in the field of spirits, mixology and a judge at many spirits events worldwide, all brands entered for the awards are scored on a 100 point scale based on key characteristics such as appearance, taste, aromatics, flavour, mouth-feel and finish.

Commenting, Jonathan Kendrick, Chairman of ROK Stars, said, "Winning a gold medal at the International Craft Spirits Competition is the highest achievement as this is a blind-tasting event and, as such, is considered to be one of the most prestigious spirits competition in the world. We and our fast-growing network of distribution partners around the world are delighted because while we are very proud of our contemporary and sophisticated design and packaging of Uisce Beatha Real Irish Whiskey, to have our premium blend whiskey recognised for its gold medal-winning quality is fantastic."

ROK Drinks was co-founded by John Paul DeJoria, known as "America's favourite entrepreneur" and British entrepreneur Jonathan Kendrick.

John Paul DeJoria is best known as co-founder of Paul Mitchell, the largest privately held hair care business in North America, as well as being the co-founder of Patron Tequila, the world's Number 1 premium Tequila brand.

First distilled by Irish monks more than 1,000 years ago, the term "whiskey" is derived from the ancient Gaelic "Uisce Beatha," meaning "Water of Life," and is pronounced "ish-ka ba-ha."

Uisce Beatha Real Irish Whiskey is a blend of Irish single malt and grain whiskies which have been matured for at least 4 years in ex-Bourbon American oak casks to deliver a soft, subtle and delicately sweet flavour with a long, malty finish.
