DEWAR'S® Launches New DEWAR'S Highlander Honey

image

CORAL GABLES, Fla., March 27, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The House of DEWAR'S® has the spirits industry buzzing with the U.S. launch of DEWAR'S Highlander Honey—DEWAR'S Blended Scotch whisky infused with natural flavors. This unique innovation is crafted by the infusion of hand-selected Scottish honey along with natural flavors into the original

DEWAR'S WHITE LABEL® blend, the #1 selling premium Blended Scotch whisky in the United States1. DEWAR'S Highlander Honey brings delectable sweetness with a pleasing bite to a new, urban and modern consumer--"The Drinking Man."

"DEWAR'S Highlander Honey delivers fantastic notes of honey, but still retains the treasured characteristics of the original blend, which is renowned for its complex taste profile and its unparalleled smoothness," says Stephanie Macleod , Master Blender for DEWAR'S. "By using

DEWAR'S WHITE LABEL as the core for DEWAR'S Highlander Honey, the infusion process builds on the already present honey aromas found in the blend and creates an exceptionally well-rounded and harmonious taste profile that "The Drinking Man" has come to expect from DEWAR'S."

DEWAR'S WHITE LABEL has been stung by the honey bees near Aberfeldy, Scotland, and the result is alluringly smooth. The infusion of Scottish honey reveals a velvety, mellow character with influences of juicy citrus fruits. From the eyes to the nose to the palate, consumers will find a captivating blend of sweetness and bite with DEWAR'S Highlander Honey.

DEWAR'S Highlander Honey is the first offering in a strikingly modern and new "Highlander" range of products that will include unique expressions of DEWAR'S Blended Scotch whisky infused with natural flavors. The range will include innovations showcasing traditional and indigenous Scottish ingredients.

"DEWAR'S Highlander Honey is a welcome addition to The Drinking Man's portfolio and continues DEWAR'S long history of pioneering innovation within the spirits industry," says Arvind Krishnan , VP Brand Managing Director for the DEWAR'S brand. "Consumers are turning to brown spirits for their fullness of flavor and the rich taste they deliver. DEWAR'S Highlander Honey appeals to these consumers who seek new varieties and tastes and the DEWAR'S name assures them of quality."

DEFINITIVELY SCOTTISH, UNIQUELY DEWAR'S

Using Scottish honey harvested near the DEWAR'S distillery in Aberfeldy, Scotland, DEWAR'S Master Blender Stephanie Macleod has taken a uniquely local approach to crafting the first expression of the "Highlander" range. The composition and taste of honey is terroir-driven. Macleod uses honey from local bees, which draw their honey profile from the rugged terrain of the Scottish Highlands and the warm, silky texture of Scottish plants. Scottish honey gives DEWAR'S Highlander Honey a unique smooth, buttery composition.

To create the taste of DEWAR'S Highlander Honey, Macleod places Scottish honey into a mesh pouch then infuses it with other natural flavors into DEWAR'S WHITE LABEL. The blend is then filtered through oak cask wood chips. Beyond enhancing the treasured characteristics of DEWAR'S WHITE LABEL, the DEWAR'S Highlander Honey infusion process also maintains the desired 40% alcohol by volume.

HOW TO ENJOY

"The Drinking Man" will appreciate the versatility of DEWAR'S Highlander Honey. It is perfect on the rocks, in a chilled shot drink to enhance the Scottish honey notes, or in a cocktail. A DEWAR'S Highlander Honey & Cola showcases the perfectly mixable nuances of the blend.

NEW HIGHLANDER RANGE, SAME COMMITMENT TO INNOVATION

The launch of DEWAR'S Highlander Honey and the new DEWAR'S "Highlander" range of products demonstrate DEWAR'S pioneering innovation. Committed to raising the standard within the industry, the House of DEWAR'S has established a wide range of historic accolades. DEWAR'S is the most awarded blended Scotch whisky in the world. DEWAR'S was one of the first distilleries to double-barrel age, also known as "marrying," its Scotch whisky blends. This process first created by Master Blender AJ Cameron and still followed today, involves placing newly created blends back into vintage oak casks for a second period of maturation, creating remarkable smoothness and depth of character.

DEWAR'S Highlander Honey will be available nationwide in April 2013 at fine wine and spirits retailers with a suggested retail price of $23.99 per 750 mL bottle. More information is available via www.Dewars.com.

  • Be involved in the naming of the new product

  • Win the chance to attend the global launch event & help select its location

Participants will also be able to win prestigious prizes including a VIP visit to The Glenmorangie Distillery and a trip to the country of origin of the oak cask in which the winning whisky has been matured.

Dr. Lumsden has already revealed his selection of the three rare whiskies to a group of leading international whisky experts, who have all independently offered their initial views on his selection. Their tasting notes are available on the Glenmorangie Cask Masters website, www.glenmorangie.com/caskmasters, to guide participants and shed light onto the unique venture.

Dr. Bill Lumsden explained, "This is a very bold move for us – for years we have listened to fans of the brand and their views and reactions to the whiskies we have introduced. "Now it's their turn to become truly involved and I hope as many whisky aficionados as possible around the world will be able to join in and enjoy each stage of this exciting journey.

We have always been at the forefront of innovation regarding our whisky creation so now we are simply leveraging crowd sourcing's immense capabilities to make it more accessible for our consumers. Bulleit Bourbon Partners With Emerging Director To Reveal Untold Story Of American Outlaws

image

NEW YORK, March 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/jm/ -- Westerns may depict the days of yesteryear, but their cultural relevance continues to appear at the forefront of film, music and entertainment. Jeymes Samuel and Bulleit Bourbon this past week debuted the latest interpretation of the American outlaw in They Die By Dawn – a short film that Samuel wrote and directed.

The partnership with Samuel launches an on-going commitment by Bulleit Bourbon to collaborate with emerging artists in film, art and music, who similar to its Founder Tom Bulleit , are passionate about making their visions a reality. Since establishing the Bulleit Distilling Co. in 1987, Tom Bulleit and his Bourbon (which now includes Bulleit Rye and Bulleit 10 in addition to the original) have won a series of prestigious awards, captured the imaginations of mixologists nationwide and created numerous programs that champion the promotion of responsible drinking, a topic very close to Tom Bulleit 's heart.

At the core of this venture was Samuel's desire to bring an untold story to life with an all-star cast, including Giancarlo Esposito , Isaiah Washington , Michael K. Williams , Rosario Dawson and Jesse Williams . Set in Langston, Okla., They Die By Dawn follows four African American outlaws blazing the western frontier to capture the group's collective bounty.

"It was important that every element of this film be as accurate as possible in bringing the stories of Nat Love and Ben Hodge to life," said Samuel. "Bulleit Bourbon was an integral piece to the film because it embodies the true spirit of that time period as everything from its legendary bottle to the fabled story of its roots aligns with the spirit of the Wild West."

Earlier this year, Samuel also visited the legendary Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Kentucky, where he spoke with Tom Bulleit and captured footage to create a first-of-its-kind look at one of America's most beloved frontier whiskies. Samuel will turn his experience in Bourbon country into a two-minute short showcasing how both he and Tom Bulleit , visionaries in their own respective fields, defied the odds to resurrect unexplored elements of the past and bring them to a mainstream audience.

"Collaborating with an entertainment pioneer like Jeymes has introduced Bulleit to an audience captivated by creativity at the highest level," said Bulleit. "We look forward to showcasing the story of our brand – both past and present – through the digital short and film."

After premiering at SXSW, Samuel and Bulleit Bourbon took to New York City with an exclusive screening.

Iowa Shine Corn Whiskey… On A Cloudy Day

image
When we received the bottle of Iowa Shine Corn Whiskey from the folks at Iowa Distilling Company, it couldn’t have come at a better time. The cloudy, cold, skies of winter and the never-ending snow have us here at JustMalt.com seriously wishing for a little of sunshine and warmth. Well, we got our wish in a bottle of corn whiskey.
We tried the whiskey three ways –neat, over ice and in a whiskey sour.

Neat – Iowa Shine is clean, bright with an unmistakable hint of corn sweetness like a corn nut. We especially loved the alcoholic warmth after a day of shoveling snow and the nutty nose.
Over Ice – This was our least preferred method, but we blame our ice cubes.

Whiskey Sour - As recommended on their website and because we were craving a little taste of summer, we decided to taste Iowa Shine with a little lemon juice and sugar. This was definitely our preferred method. If you are seeking a drink that tastes like sunshine and feels like sunshine in your stomach, this is it. And I’m not sure if it was the Iowa Shine or the brightness of an almost full moon overhead, but as we all sipped on our whiskey sours, I found myself singing “I’ve got Iowa Shine on a cloudy day. When it’s cold outside, I got the month of May… ”
And there you have it, folks. If you are looking for an aged single malt whisky, this is not the whiskey for you. And Iowa Shine makes no apologies for that. It proudly states on the flask-shaped bottle that this is not an aged or mature whisky. It is double distilled, pure and raw. But if you’re looking for a little warmth and sunshine a cloudy day, well, you just might find it in a bottle of Iowa Shine.

Thanks to the folks at Iowa Distilling for sending us the bottle of Iowa Shine. We had a lot of fun trying this whiskey, and we will certainly continue to enjoy it with our friends and family.

Rare Balvenie 50 Year Old Scotch Comes to Quebec

image

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 20, 2013/jm/) -

On March 28, Quebec will receive the last bottle of The Balvenie 50 Year Old released in Canada. As one of the most extraordinary whiskies to ever come out of The Balvenie distillery, The Balvenie 50 will be released to Montreal's Signature SAQ, retailing for $49,400. This bottle is one of only 88 to ever be produced, and will be one of the last remaining for sale in the world.

Last November, the first of only two bottles distributed to Canada sold in Vancouver. The coveted single malt scotch sold within minutes of its release, to a local whisky aficionado.

The Balvenie 50 Year Old was released in 2012 to honor and celebrate the 50 year anniversary of The Balvenie distillery Malt Master, David Stewart, the industry's longest standing Malt Master and an industry wide master and innovator in the field. Balvenie takes pride in using traditional methods and quality craftsmanship combined with the innovations of the industry's most revered Malt Master, David Stewart.

"Quebec was a natural market for this very exclusive quality variant we had on offer," says European Whiskies Brand Manager for William Grant & Son's, Beth-Anne Thomas. "The local audience has an appreciation for the craftsmanship and quality we are so proud to be able to offer to the Canadian market."

The Balvenie Fifty was matured in a European oak sherry hogshead, rarely used today in whisky making. Under the watchful eye of David Stewart, the spirit slowly matured into an outstanding single malt Scotch whisky over the past 50 years. The particularly long maturation has created a wonderful fragrant and floral whisky, which is velvety sweet with a beautifully balanced combination of sweet citrus notes and gentle hints of honey, spice and oak. With an ABV of 44.1%, the nose is fragrant and floral with fruit and oak lusciously intermingled. The finish is velvety smooth with a delicious citrus sweetness.

The Balvenie Fifty is presented in a hand blown glass bottle surrounded by a wooden case, created by Scottish craftsman, Sam Chinnery, from Scottish grown timbers including Banffshire Elm grown on The Balvenie site.
